Twin Cities Women’s Meetups

Twin Cities Area Women’s Meetups

Since April 2014, women from across the Twin Cities, MN area have been getting together to train parkour. Our goal is to get more women and girls to give parkour a try and discover new ways to move and play. We hope that our Meetups provide an access point for women so that we can build and strengthen the parkour community as a whole.

Next Meetup:

During the cold months, Meetups will typically be held on the 2nd Saturday of the month from noon to 2pm. Please visit one of our group pages for event details.

FAQ

  • Who should come?
All ladies, all ages, all levels. Beginners welcome! If you’re looking to improve your parkour skills or want a fun way to get moving, you should join us! Kids are welcome but they must be accompanied by an adult. This is a great way to spend time together!
  • What if I’ve never trained parkour before?
The group is geared for beginners and we welcome all skill levels. No matter what shape you’re in, today is the day to get started! We’ll walk you through the basics of training safely and help you learn what you need to expand your skills. Parkour isn’t about competition, it’s about setting your own goals and achieving them. Come join us for a great introduction to parkour – we hope you love it as much as we do!
  • All participants MUST sign the waiver to use the Fight or Flight Academy gym. You can sign the waiver online before participating. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver for you. We request that the parent or guardian remain present during the event. We aren’t babysitters!
  • What should I expect?
We will start with a warm up including light exercise and joint mobility. From there, we’ll work on a variety of different skills, focusing on technique and quality of movement. Experienced individuals who wish to train on their own are more than welcome to. We’ll always have someone available to help beginners learn the basics but you’re not required to stick with the group. Just remember to train within your means and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  • Are guys welcome?
Although we end up training in places where we might run into guys or we may have a male coach present sometimes, these events are for women, by women. We encourage women to seek co-ed training, like classes at Fight or Flight Academy or local meetups with Twin Cities Parkour.
  • How much does it cost?
During the colder months, we will be hosting these meetups at Fight or Flight Academy during their Open Gym time which costs $10 for non-members of FoFA, but is free for members.  (Once it warms up again, we’ll go outside and the event will be totally free!)
  • What should I bring with me?
You really don’t need much – your ID, a water bottle, perhaps a snack, and definitely a sense of adventure! (And if you’re under 18, please bring an adult with you to sign a waiver!)
  • What should I wear?
To do parkour, you want to wear comfortable clothes that will let you move around easily. We recommend a t-shirt that you don’t mind getting dirty and athletic pants. Make sure to wear your sneakers; running / cross training or minimalist shoes work well.
