Lava Tag

Lava Tag can be played with just about any other tag variation. It is rooted in a traditional tag (one person is “it” and tries to tag another person to be “it”) except no one may touch the ground  – which is “made of lava”. There are various penalties for touching the ground, such as returning to a home base obstacle or losing the use of the body part which touched the floor for that round. the game works best when age or developmentally appropriate challenges are set for the distance of the “islands” or obstacles that can be used to stay out of the lava.
