CODEBREAKER
Codebreaker is an engaging and adaptable game designed to enhance foot placement accuracy, balance, agility, and spatial awareness through parkour-inspired movements. This game encourages creative sequencing, communication, and attentiveness among participants.

Gameplay
This fun and challenging game is played by: one player creating a “code” of movements (stride = one foot, plyo = two feet, skip = no feet) across a series of evenly spaced lines or markers, then announcing the sequence (for example “1-2-0-1-1-2”). The other players listen, then attempt to replicate the movement sequence in order as they traverse the markers. After each attempt, the next player becomes the code-creator and the complexity can increase (longer sequences, assigned right/left foot, switch-steps).
Setup
- 6 Precision Sticks™ are set up in a parallel line
- Spacing is about 24″-30″ (one stride distance for the student group)
- Use as many sets of 6 as you have to create multiple lines
- Students line up far enough back from the first precision stick that the first step counts
Rules
- Code Creation: The first player creates a movement sequence using a combination of:
- 1: Stride (one foot landing on the trainer/line).
- 2: Plyo (two feet landing simultaneously on the trainer/line).
- 0: Skip (no feet landing on the trainer/line).
- Code Communication: The code creator calls out the sequence (e.g., “1-2-0-1-1-2”).
- Code Execution: The other players listen carefully and attempt to replicate the movement sequence by traversing the trainers/lines.
- Progression: Increase difficulty by:
- Designating Right or Left foot for each movement.
- Incorporating switch-steps (changing the leading foot mid-sequence).
- Increasing sequence length and complexity.
- Rotation: After each player completes the sequence, the next player in line becomes the code creator.
Imagination Queues and Game Variations
To enhance engagement and imagination, incorporate themes like:
- Espionage: Players are secret agents deciphering coded messages represented by movement sequences.
- Robot Programming: Players program robots with specific movements to navigate obstacles.
- Dance Choreography: Players are dancers learning a new routine.
- Color Codes: Link specific moves (1 foot, Right foot) to specific colors of Precision Stick™
Skill Level Adjustments – Challenge and Support
- Challenge – Move the trainers farther apart
- Challenge – Allow 0 (zero) in the sequence, skipping a trainer
- Challenge – Call Specific Feet, e.g L-L-L-R-R-2
- Challenge – For advanced students, allow “180” and even “360”
- Support – Move the trainers closer together
- Support – Start with 4 trainers per set
Feedback Mechanisms
Encourage peer feedback and support during code execution. Emphasize that only a correct code execution gets a thumbs up, but all feedback is delivered in a positive manner.
Adaptations and Supports
- Incorporate adaptive tools for individuals with differing abilities to ensure inclusivity.
- See the supports in the Skill Level Adjustments
- Please leave feedback when you try something that works.
Additional Considerations
- Emphasize quality of movement and control over speed.
- Integrate parkour principles of safety and awareness by having players check their environment and practice movements at a comfortable pace.
