DC Women’s Meetups

DC Area Women’s Meetups

Since July 2013, women from across the DC/Northern Virginia region have been getting together once a month to train parkour. Our mission is simple: get more women and girls outside jumping, climbing, and playing. We hope that our meetups provide an access point for women so that we can build and strengthen the parkour community as a whole.

FAQ

  • Who should come?
All girls, all ages, all levels. Beginners welcome! If you’re looking to improve your parkour skills or want a fun way to get moving, you should join us!

  • What if I’ve never trained parkour before?
No matter what shape you’re in, today is the day to get started! At our meetups, we start with the basics, always rooted in safety and quality of movement. When you’re ready, we break down the more advanced moves into progressions so you can work up to them. Come join us for a great introduction to parkour – we hope you love it as much as we do!
  • What should I expect?
We will start with a warm up including light exercise and joint mobility. From there, we’ll work on a variety of different skills, focusing on technique and quality of movement. Finally, we hope to challenge you to link these skills together in a game or course.  We’re there to have fun and learn so we’ll be taking it slow or progressing quickly depending on how you’re feeling! Although we have lots of fun things planned, we’re flexible and you can always sit down if you need some water or a second to catch your breath!
  • Are guys welcome?
Although we end up training in places where we might run into guys or sometimes we’ll have a male coach present, these events are for women, by women.

  • How much does it cost?
Our goal is to expand the parkour community and have fun together, so these events are COMPLETELY FREE!
  • What should I bring with me?
You really don’t need much –  a water bottle, perhaps a snack, and definitely a sense of adventure! (And if you’re under 18, please bring an adult with you to sign a waiver!)
  • What should I wear?
To do parkour, you want to wear comfortable clothes that will let you move around easily. We recommend a t-shirt that you don’t mind getting dirty and shorts or athletic pants. Make sure to wear your sneakers; running / cross training sneakers work well.
