Most serious lifters take LOADS of caffeine.  The performance benefits far outweigh any nutrient loss.

(Note: Most serious lifters are also somewhat insane.)

There's a lot of cheap oil out there that doesn't even mark the values of EPA/DHA independently.

The best stuff is the real oil.  Go to your local Vitamin Shoppe and just get a nice bottle of it.  Cheaper and more poignant.

The point of the article is to really be educated on the matter, not necessarily to denigrate Paleo.

I've been on Paleo.  I got results.  That... doesn't mean I was any healthier than I am now.  Do most people overeat carbs?  Yeah, no question about that.  Does that mean all starches should be removed, or that everyone is intolerant of gluten?  No, I think that's pretty ridiculous.

Whatever happened to "everything in moderation"?

All fats are good to a certain point (except for trans).  The ratio of fats is what's important.  So the issue arises in the average American diet being waaaay too full of saturated fats.. and the "health nuts" just going to the other extreme by demonizing saturated fats and not getting enough because all of a sudden, all we're doing is overloading on monounsaturateds.  And then the research coming back and saying, "Hey, it's not actually BAD for you" and it swings back the other way.

Eat your fats in balance with one another.  That's all there is to it.

EMI articles are only written by Steven Low and Chris Salvato.  Both are very well-educated in these matters.

Much of what you have heard about nutrition in the past is, likely, wrong.  "Common knowledge" nutrition and the nutrition they teach in grade school (and even in undergrad) is about forty years behind the current research right now.  If you start reading what is being written by current experts, you'll find they align very well with EMI, with few exceptions.

Of course, everyone has their own approach to nutrition.. and someone like Dr. John Berardi or Leigh Peele might have starkly different opinions on nutrition than do Steven and Chris, but the science behind all of them is (mostly) good.  There's a certain point where you have to just go with your own preferences, too.

The c/p/f ratio is completely different in soy milk.  And there isn't even really that much protein in it.  Mind you, I think Asian soy milk is amazing, but it's a nice treat once in a blue moon.

If you want growth and are lactose intolerant (I am as well) just take whey shakes (isolates, as they're something like 99.9% lactose-free) and eat food for your carbs/fats post-workout.

He's asking about the benefit/detriment ratio of a Hershey's milk chocolate bar as a snack (i.e. how "healthy" it is/ how "impactful" it is).

Answer: If you're going to eat something like that, make it worth your while.  Just go dark.  REALLY dark.  Tastes better, more chocolatey, and better for you.  What's not to love?
