Tricking / Re: Problem with legs/hips

Stretch!
i know exactly what you mean, and it all goes away with some flexibility in the hip flexors.  stretch all 3 splits, mostly middle.

to use your hips in a twist, try driving your knee across.  It will make you bend your legs a bit which isn't good for doubles, but you'll get used to twisting enough by then

I taught my friend a standing back starting with the tramp, and he does it just fine with great technique.  The tramp can be a very useful tool if used correctly, so dont get the misconception that it will mess you up, because it wont unless you go about it the wrong way.  I like to use it for learning bigger moves like doubles and such, because the timing to open is SO much more different then single moves.  If you dont have access to a tramp, thats perfectly okay.  You may need to just grow a pair (which can help you much more) or get a good spotter.  I forced my friend (previously mentioned) to do the first, because i can't always be there to spot him.  He is getting much better now, because its all in the determination.

If you have a gym you can use, USE IT.  No shame in a safe enviorment :)

Movement / Re: Front "Tucks" - To tuck or not to tuck?
« on: November 01, 2011, 10:33:28 PM »
when i do mine, i dont worry about the concept about bringing the chest to the knees, because i just bring them in.   If i think of chest down to knees, then i tend to rotate downwards.  Instead, i lead with my shoulders and tuck them upwards in the back kind of like a reversed back tuck.  This causes me to set a little farther forward, but if you play with it a bit, then you can get really really high.  I'm working on double fronts on the floor right now and this technique works just great for me.  Its all about messing around with it and finding what works best.

*what i did when i first tried to find out how to tuck, I would reach all the way down to my ankles, not knees.  This was on a tramp that i experimented with, and it had helped me so much with the concept of rotation speed changing.  Don't over think the front flip.  Just jump up, lead the tuck, remember to block, and make yourself small as you go around, and you have plenty of time for a stepout that way for a nice smooth impressive landing.  They take some getting used to.

Movement / Re: Any advice for a wall spin?
« on: July 02, 2011, 09:10:43 PM »
Get used to a palm spin, do it a bit angled, then follow the same principle really.  I can't exactly help too much because I dont know what's stopping you.
If you look through this, this may help you realize the problem if you think about it, but everybody's different.  These could all be problems causing your spin to stop half way through.

Are you not tucked enough
Are your feet grazing the wall
Are you chickening out
Are you not putting the proper support on your bottom hand
Are you jumping into the wall too much/not enough
Are you not starting the rotation correctly (too early/late)
Where are you looking
How far/close to the wall do you start running from
What angle are you approaching the wall
What angle is your spin at?
What is your head doing during the spin?
where are your feet at on takeoff

The best way to find out the solution to a move is to take it apart and examine each aspect of each movement.

Tricking / Cork s/t help?
« on: June 30, 2011, 03:13:23 PM »
This is my current cork

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQMF7lMRfzA&feature=related

I want to be able to get it higher/faster so i can swing through.  right now, if i land too low to land on one leg and swing effectively.  Do i just need to constantly drill this until i build the height for it?  or am i doing something wrong technically?

Tricking / Re: Backflip: "Jump Straight up" "Don't lean back"
« on: May 30, 2011, 11:20:15 AM »
Yea, it's a habit i've developed, trying to get rid of it..
So I guess the only thing I can do is to just wait a bit longer before tucking?
they're actually looking pretty good.  but YES wait a little bit longer.  throw your shoulders a little bit more and tuck at the TOP, not the way up.  then you'll have a really good backflip

Movement / Re: Learning a backflip solo
« on: May 06, 2011, 03:21:50 PM »
I taught myself completely as well.  it just needs guts.  i first did it on a hill as well, but i feel like this kind of set me back a bit, because i was jumping back to take advantage of the incline.  you do NOT do this.  you jump up and keep your head looking forward as long as you can (until your hips get in the way).  thats going to get you much higher.  a little scarier, but more effective.  when i was learning though, i used my hands a TON.  don't be afraid to bail with hands, but dont get used to it.  because when you need to go for it all out, you can NOT use hands and let them help with your arms in the takeoff/tuck.

thats my process from experience.

The power step helps a lot
the steps are like a rhythm
if it were music, normal steps would be quarter notes, and the power step and the step on the wall would be eighth notes
chads 3 steps in that video would be like 1& 2& 3& 4&
I really hope you played any type of instrument so you understand that terrible analogy i stated lol

Study Chads steps in the video, and his arm motions, for any flip/twist Setting is important.

ha dont worry, i'm a singer.  i understood it perfectly.

And when i attempt these, i am in a gym, so dont worry, i am in a save environment.  I am also at least the intermediate level with my ground flips, so i know how to bail very well.  and being in the martial arts for six years cant hurt either.  But thanks for the tips, i landed eight succesfully in a row yesterday.  and i dont have my loser, i will work on that haha
