Parkour And Freerunning / Re: Parkour Summer Camp

I was inexperienced when I proposed this idea, and I was trying to glorify it in my own mind. The fact is it was one of those "ah ha" moments in the middle of the night, and no one wants to think their cool new idea is crap, so this thread was drawn out way too long, lol. there's some good idea's hidden within this thread, but a "Parkour Summer Camp" just wasn't one of them.

I'm not sure. Possible they've gained each others phone numbers, and as such see no further use for this forum?
It's nice to see you anyways Tom

Learn patience, and tolerance for uselessness. (Grammar Nazis?)
Learn patience, and tolerance for everything else. (Stupid people?)
Ace my classes, and get my degree. (Broad I know)
Be more active (I wanna try tricking)
Get into Judo for at least 1 academic year
Start bboying (cause I can't shuffle.)
& finally...
Try not to cry for my country as she heads down this unknown road.

OH NO GRAMMAR NAZI IS HERE!!

Dude, just for your own sake in the future on these forums, Parkour = not a verb. so you can't say "I went parkouring." Say "I went to train for Parkour." It's a noun. You don't say "I'm going basketballing, then baseballing later." Just so you know. Now I'm off to ticket someone else :P

Oh sorry; and yeah, Parkour is about taking your body to higher levels. Be prepared to be Olympic-level ;)

I must be nice... I must be nice... I must be nice... I must be nice...

Parkour And Freerunning / Re: Any epiphanies?
« on: December 19, 2009, 08:02:28 PM »
Epiphany - There is no such thing as a "Parkour move" or a "Freerunning move". There is only movement. A jump is a jump, a vault is a vault, a flip is a flip. No more, no less. It is how we use the jump, the vault, and the flip that defines the movement as something more than itself. Parkour, Freerunning, Art du Deplacement, they are all ideas, systems, ways to try and define the movements to make them more than themselves.

To believe that you are doing a "Parkour move" or a "Freerunning move" is as limiting as saying "I will train only to fight someone six feet tall and two hundred pounds." A well rounded martial artist is prepared to fight as many types of people as possible in all sorts of varying situations. We, as students of movement, should strive to be the same. We may end up specializing in flips, or climbs, or vaults, but we shouldn't box ourselves in.

Well put! +1

Well I'm impressed.
I don't mind putting my kids through gymanstics, martial arts, etc at a young age, but I'd wait on the weights, bodyweight exercises are a win though.
My young cousin lifts his dads weight around everywhere and tries to lift it like his dad, maybe this boys father just showed him the proper way and the kid did the rest.

If you're against arguments you're not going to make it very far in this world.
Arguments are everywhere, and while some may not be as extreme as others it's a fact of life that you'll have to put up with.
If you don't like it, move to the woods, and build a log cabin, shut off all outsiders from yourself, and eat your own veggies(assuming you can grow anything)

Competition is okay.

Oregon / TVCC in Ontario
« on: November 28, 2009, 07:28:02 PM »
I'm going to college in Ontario in January, and was wondering if there's any traceurs over there?
If so, maybe we could get together on the weekends when homework is done.
Anyone?

« on: November 28, 2009, 07:16:42 PM »
There's plenty of spots to train in Boise.
BSU being one of them, as well as the Boise High School.
You can check out more at
www.IdahoParkour.com
Enjoy, and keep training!
Any questions feel free to ask.

There's a helpful site for Idaho hotspots.
Try www.IdahoParkour.com

A place not mentioned on the site would be Boise State University (BSU), be creative and there's no end to what you can do.

Socialize / Re: Do you guys think you can teach yourself how to fight
« on: October 25, 2009, 10:26:55 AM »
some people say that there is no way to teach yourself how to fight.

So what your saying is our ancestors we're taught how to fight by aliens? Or they read a book made by aliens?
If that statement was true, that's the only way I can see humanity learning how to fight.
that's just stupid man.
Of course you can learn how to fight.
Most people where I'm from took boxing to help them on the streets. I just fought a lot and over time learned what not to do and what I should do.
Ignore those people, and use your instinct.
If you want to learn how to fight, but don't want to get into any fights I would recommend forgetting about it.
Learning from a book with no way of practicing is a waste of time. A sparring partner would be considered fighting, so really think about it.
If your not a violent person, there's no need to learn how to fight, just learn how to talk yourself out of every situation.
I happen to have both skills.. lol
Anyways.
It all boils down to, do you want to fight, or not?
