Parkour And Freerunning / New Organization to Legitimize Parkour
« on: April 29, 2011, 08:39:13 AM »
Currently a group of us from around the US are starting a new Non-Profit, to help continue the Parkour philosophy in a way that is conducive for everyone that trains Parkour.  We would like to highlight Parkour specific campaigns such as Leave No Trace, Building Parkour parks by working with local communities/governments and one of our favorite, community creation.  Having trained myself for over 6 years here in Texas, we see communities come and go.  They grow or do the opposite, hurt the foundation of Parkour our just themselves.  The non-profit will strive to put information for all of the campaigns out in the world.

Many of the groups and people already involved with this project have been inspired by and trained with Parkour Generations and Yamakazi time and time again.  PK Gen and Yamakazi teach proper techniques, they show the heart involved in making the discipline great and they bring great legitimacy to Parkour everywhere.

We wont be able to do it without you.  We need you, the community to stand behind ideas and become a part of the cause, if not this one, any cause that helps Parkour.  We would like members of this community and admins of the community to share their thoughts, good or bad (honestly) on a community based on these ideas.  We are already talking with American Parkour to find what they can donate to the program.  They have donated time, Thank you Mark, and their wonderful hotspot map.  The website will include information for all communities.  We will have an academic section for students to use as references on school projects.  We will have maps of where to train and contact people in your area.   Most of all our campaigns will show you how you can become a part of making Parkour important in your city.  Do you have something to offer, donate to the cause that you feel everyone should have access?  Parkour Injury articles, Student Papers, tutorials etc.  Bring them.

In return you will become apart of another community here in the US that will bring legitimacy on a local, state and national level.  We are currently finalizing mission statements, campaigns and the guidelines for the organization.  If you would like to become apart of the grassroots, let us know.

Email -  Thank you.

National Jams / PKUSA 09-Texas- Austin-June 25th-June 28th
« on: December 16, 2008, 07:04:45 PM »
I apologize for the double post.  This should be the official PKUSA thread (admins)
Who- Texas Parkour will officially be holding PKUSA.  With the help of originators of the Jam.  E.X.O and other Northern Traceurs.

When- Starting June 25th and ending June 28th.

What-4 days of training. Starting June 25th with night check in.  26th will be a day filled with workshops, classes and games.  27th will begin with a warm-up, rules, and a release to enjoy the Texas landscape.  The 28th will begin with much of the same, concluding with a TEXAS STYLE cook-out and party to enjoy each others philosophies, ideas and company

Where- San Antonio, Texas (new info)

HOUSING Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th housing will be in a GYMNASTICS FACILITY.  From about 9pm each night we are having gym sleep overs, we will be leaving the gym at 9am each morning.  PRICE for housing will be $30 for two days and $15 for one day.  Free housing will also be available. To anyone. (new info)

17 or YOUNGER must have a waiver signed in order to step foot onto the gymnastics floor.  No waiver will be required for the jam itself.  We will try and get these available online as soon as possible (not in my hands)  :)

Break Break Down-
June 25th Large gathering this night in San Antonio Texas 8pm.  If you are coming in this day you will need to get a hold of us and rsvp your stay with us in San Antonio Texas.  We will have rides mid day taking people to Austin and back to San Antonio.  Workshops and fun in Austin will start at 11am.  This day is impromptu most stuff will be in Austin. Let us know more about what we can do to accommodate you on this day.  Anyone that flies into Austin Texas will receive a ride to San Antonio for all weekend facilities.
June 26th Workshops will start at 10am in San Antonio.  This day we will set out and be everywhere in San Antonio.  There will be lots of moving and we are going to be taking you to small hotspots all around the day.  This day will end in the Gymnastics gym that holds our parkour classes around 8pm.  If you plan on staying in the gym it will be $15 a night.  The easiest way for us to track is if your in the gym, your gonna pay.  Whether your choosing the free housing route (we offer free housing as well) or not, you will need to pay the $15 fee if you choose to use the gym.
June 27th We will be out of the gym by 9am that morning.  We will caravaan to downtown San Antonio where we will have paired jamming along with workshops the first half of the day.  Afterwards we will eat, and do more jamming down town.  We end at the Gym again that night around 8pm.
June 28th In the morning we will caravaan to Texas State.  We will jam the university then move to one of the best playgrounds you will ever see in your life.  After this, we plan on having a good old style Texas Bar-B-Que.

We are more then willing for ANYONE to come in early for PKUSA and leaving Late.  Make sure to RSVP all with us and we will work it out.

*WHAT kind of information are you guys looking for?  Is there more info that you guys need for the event?*

Why-  PKUSA was created for people to get together and train with others from all over the United States and even the world.  PKUSA's  last year of existence was in the process of becoming picked up by different communities each year.  After the major flub and increase of some very amazing and great National Jams around the US, PKUSA is back.

PKUSA was not brought back to trump other jams.  PKUSA was brought back to help those with low income and a relative low amount of information about ever parkour scene in the US.  PKUSA this year will be created so that those trying to figure, out of the very many national jams that are held in the US, which to come to if you only have one chance to meet the most influential as possible.  Our goal was to bring as many traceurs from everywhere to meet at a common place without the wars between "factions" and to go out and train with everyone.  We hope that everyone will be created equal and that we may all train under one roof with little misconceptions and possible RECONNECTION!

Hear what others are saying about the jam.  The good, the bad and the ugly. :)

A word from E.X.O
Earlier this Year I reached out Matthew L.W. of TXPK and told him about my Idea to Bring PKUSA back, and He shared my enthusiasm over the project. Over the last two or so years since the last one allot of regional "National" Jams have popped up. But the amount of them occurring every year, not to mention the ones in planing, and the typical traceurs budget don't add up, forcing people to make a choice, which Jam can they afford this year, if any? which have turned these regional "National" Jams into "State" jams. and it seems like the original point of having a national Jam is being lost, which was to have one central place were you could reunite with all of your traceur friends at least once a year to learn, socialize and grow. Now I'm not putting down State jams. quite the contrary, I think they have there purpose, and those that can afford to go to them should continue, but I'd like to bring back the old feeling of having one Central Jam, were if you could only save up enough money for one a year, like alot of us! that jam would be it without question! the one were you could see the most of your traceur friends and learn the most on a limited dime

So the idea is to Bring back the PKUSA, many traceurs first Jam, But to not pigeon hold it to just New York like the originals. I'd like it to be a rotating Jam that highlights a different scene every year, starting with Texas this year in June. It also shouldn't just be another mass gathering also. Since The Original PKUSA's basically set the Big Jam model in America, that others have built upon We aim for the New ones to redefine them, with actual workshops in different area's of PK designed to enhance your knowledge and improve your personal performance level. round table discussion of this years topics of interest as well as how to Improve the state of PK in the US or weather it even needs improvement, ( at night when were done training of course) Free instruction on the best ways to get started for those who feel they need it ( cause there's always allot of first timers at these events, and they should be encouraged) Injury management and prevention Sessions, possibly overseas guests (in the future that is, lol) food, Games (uh... but not competitive games right!, lol) and of course, JAMING!!!!!

This is the Overall Idea or goal we've been toying with for the last couple of months and plan on expanding, and I'd like to open it up to the community at large to get your opinion and see if it's something that were all interested in having, or should we just stick to the ever multiplying State jams?

No Competition in Parkour, Parkour Competition

Progression Video
Thats right, a series of No Competition in Parkour, Parkour Competitions (or NCPPC) are going to be starting up in Texas Parkour.  It will be open to any community anywhere in the world.  The series will include small prizes and possibly even better possibilities, (you learn).  The series of competitions will be created to make light of the strongly opposed stance of competitions in parkour.  TXPK's stance on parkour competition is that of our members.  This is a member ran organization so, they get to keep their opinions :)

The first of the series will include a Video Contest.  The content of the video will include that of YOUR monthly progression.  Our project will start in the middle of this month, August 15th.  The video will be graded by admins of TXPK.  Remember this is a video competition not an ability competition. The video will be graded by the following:

Care taken to progress- Time spent/level of involvement/
Monitoring of your Progression- Plan of attack/Day to Day charting/
System of Improvement

Not Graded:
Level of Ability

Mailed TXPK T-Shirt

-minimum 10 seperate training sessions  -recommended more
-Every training Session Filmed

Please Email for any additional questions and also if you are planning on submitting a video into the contest.

If anyone is having trouble watching my video go to SUNDAY SPORTS TRICKS and LOOK FOR ME! :)

LA/Hollywood was amazing. As many of you know I was flown out to Hollywood this last Tuesday to be involved in a great opportunity for myself. I entered into a talent search online. After three weeks of people rallying together I moved from being top five in the nation each week to being flow out to LA for by BIG SHOT.

The company was called . They are a group of really nice individuals. I think something you wont find to much in Hollywood now a days. I met with my Big Shot Manger and the company took me to Venice Beach to meet with a producer of Motion Capture, who's current project is the bop-a-lots . He has also worked on things like Scrubs, Everybody loves Raymond and Entourage.

I was able to audition for him and he said that enjoyed my movements. He then gave me the opportunity to work this a great company. I worked with the company on motion capture. They had a great team and a great acting director. The acting Director was a guy named Garrett Warren. He has done stunt choreography for Transformers, Beowulf, Crank and Mission Impossible 3. The list goes on and on!

I got to see the Chinese theatre...saw the stars on Hollywood blvd and unfortunately did not get to climb the big Hollywood Sign. NEXT TIME!

When all was said and done. Big Shot Live really just helped so much and was really great. Though, why am I tell you. Watch the episode for yourself.

REMEMBER if I get 100,000 views on that video I get to go back to Hollywood. Watch it watch it!!! They all loved me and they want me back. Help me again in this great opportunity! Thank you all so very much again from the bottom of my heart.

REMEMBER under 5mb so I Can get it in my email... EMAIL ALL SUBMITIONS TO THIS!!!!!!!!!

I asked the Admins to reply because I feel they are admins for their knowledge, skill and heart.  I ask others as well to reply.

I believe free running and parkour to be spawed from the same terms and acknowledgments of old and new.  In other words...they both came from Le'Art Du Deplacement.  In the Q&A from Yamakazi they explain that everything is the same.  Continue to be the same.

I understand there is a Bastardization of term Free Running in America.  This term is meant to encompass all tricks and trade and expressions you can not have in Parkour.

So Question:
The official stance of ("endorsed" by David Belle) they state - in common terms - Parkour moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible.

The official stance of is that Free running is art of expressing yourself in your environment with no limitations.  Its not about being beautiful its about feeling and being connected. The philosophy is behind it to unify body, spirit and environment.  It can be compared to moving like an animal or moving through water.

L'Art Du Deplacement defined by Yamakazi...(the creators) say the almost exact thing here when Seb defines free running.

So, who has lost their way?  Who is lost here when saying they are all the same?  Of course they are all similar, used to save others or yourself.  Deeper philosophy of parkour (derived from L'Art De Deplacement) about body, mind and soul.

It feels to me Sebastien is trying to explain to us the English Version of L'Art Du Deplacement, not parkour.  When people say they are the same it can not be 100% true.  Parkour was created to save others in an efficient manner, or yourself.  In the artful disciplines you are not bound by the restriction of efficiency like parkour.  Therefor they can NOT be the same.

I have felt this way years now but it hit me when I saw back up and read the site and what he says about free running.

I write all of this to write this:
I feel I will never use the term free running again in defining any movement.  I feel it is the same as L'Art Du Deplacement and there is no reason to create more confusion.  This is also in conjuction with what I have been doing with the names of certain movements.  I use the translated terms versus Urban Free Flow Terms.

Feelings behind the words Free Running.

I feel the term was created to help vocalize a way to say we are doing something.  Such as the term parkour is not used as a verb.  It can be used as a Noun and thus its definition says.  Though, free running has grown to be a verb.  Thus easy for many of us to say, I am free running without turning heads and getting the accusing finger.  When was the last time you heard someone say I am going to go parkour and didn't feel like smacking them upside the head?  These are my thoughts, a term created to help unify and create an action.

I ask for some polite conversation and opinions.
