If you're interested in going, feel free to contact us at the link below and maybe we can get a good group so no one shows up all by there lonesome self.

« on: August 27, 2011, 09:26:49 PM »
Wow... After much talk and little action, it's time we got this thing up and running. I'm listing the main areas of Ohio that I think of as people start posting info. If you think I should add more, tell me why.

Here's how it will work. You come in here, post your info using the neat little skeleton posted below. I add your info to the Sticky and then I delete your post to keep things nice and neat. Got it? Good. Have fun.

Injuries - Discussion / Back Rehab after possible back spasm
« on: January 24, 2011, 10:04:49 PM »
Back on December 20th, I returned from Indiana, which is a 5 hour car ride. I felt that I had missed too many days of training because of the holidays and decided(stupidly) that working out, talking on the phone, at 10:30pm was a great idea... And skipping my warm-up as well.

I know, never lift when I'm angry... I do stupid things.

To make up for the headset's length, I adjusted my form a little. I arched it more than I should have I think. I'm getting my video camera within the next couple of days and will post a video recreating the form. Needless to say, I wasn't feeling good because of sugar intake, stress and I had to stop lifting halfway through my Power Clean work, even after lowering the weight. On top of all of this, I decided to drink 15oz of milk and whey protein, regardless of feeling nauseous. I had severe stomach discomfort and woke up around 3ish, puked, fell asleep in the bathroom. Woke up a few hours later, puked and I started to feel great. About an hour(Around 9ish) later I suddenly got hit with a pain so intense it surprised me. It went from my toes all the way to the middle of my back. My legs felt numb, tingly and weak. I've been electrocuted before, that's another feeling I was having, but only beneath the middle of my back. This went on until I fell asleep that night and for the most part the pain had reduced greatly the next morning.

My back still hurt, so I went to see my doctor after about a week of pain. It wasn't severe pain, but I don't like to take chances with my back. We got some x-rays and they said that my spine was fine, no bulging or slipping of the disks, nothing cracked or anything serious. So it looks like it was a severe muscle spasm. I've been heating it for a month now and my back seems to be getting better. Now I want to see if I can start adding workouts that will help to rehab it and strengthen it so I can get back to lifting(Smarter).

My questions are;

-Should I do body weight exercises to strengthen my core before I start lifting again? Or is it ok to lift as long as I keep the weights low?
-Are there any specific stretches that I should focus on, or should I not worry about that?
-Is it possible that my lack of working out recently is prolonging the "ache"? It's almost like a weak/ache feeling, it's tough to describe.

I know that my post was long and some of the information might not be useful, but I figured that too much was better than not enough... Unless I'm dumb... Which is likely.

Also, feel free to chastise me for my lack of thinking that night. I know that I screwed up and now I'm paying the price for it.

Flip Ultra: FU
Flip Mino: FM
Kodak Zi6: KZ

Not sure if anyone has experience with any of these cameras.

Questions:
How "HD" are these HD cameras?
Is 60fps enough for clean videos, even during flips?
Do these videos shoot clearly in most "relatively" lighted environments(under a tree, overcast winter days, indoors)?

Now, I've been reading that;

The FU takes fantastic video, the stabilizer is a major upgrade from earlier generations, battery is decent and storage is solid.

The FM takes good video, can be grainy in certain lighting, the color remains real, battery is decent and storage is solid.

The KZ takes good video, can be grainy in certain lighting, the blacks are constant but can sometimes give a yellowy feel to skin, battery is excellent since it runs on AA's in case you're low on power in the field, storage is terrible, but you can add your own cards up to 32GB.

Anybody care to add? Especially about the cons. Thank you in advance.

Training Journals / The Metamorphosis (Comments and Suggestions Welcome)
« on: November 15, 2010, 07:57:22 AM »
Ok, this is my second attempt at a training log. My first attempt was well-meaning, I did lose 45lbs because of it, but it wasn't structured enough so it left me floundering about once I made some gains. I quit using a log and went about it when I remembered. It worked "ok" because as it turns out, most of the exercises I used are the platform for Starting Strength. The problem though, was that I lacked consistency.

This time around, I'm going to do it right. Last time, I ate what I wanted and let the workouts deal with it. This time, I'm going to eat right and use that to boost my training. Last time, I was never consistent with my workouts. This time, I'm going to keep everything logged and make sure I keep up with my training. Last time, I was very private with my training. This time, I'm putting it out there so the community can see it. This way you guys can keep me accountable and help keep me going. If I'm lucky, maybe what I do will help motivate someone else to go out there and get started. One can only hope.

These here are a few pictures of my current shape, I figured it's time to knock off the big talk and be honest. I'm not the massive guy that I pretend to be, now you all will know that. Don't look if a chubby shirtless man scares you.

November 15th, 2010. "The Original Starting Strength" Program.

Starting Stats:

Age: 20
Height: 6'2
Weight: 193lbs
Waist: 33in
Chest: 40&1/4in
((I'll be adding in the other stats in the next couple of days... When I can find someone to help measure.))

I decided to drop the weights from 130lbs, down to 68lbs for all my exercises right now. I think this is for the best since it will allow to me to focus completely on the form I should be using, especially since I can't have someone correct me immediately. Eventually the

My workout consisted of;
RepsxSets

5x3-Squat, 68lbs.
5x3-Bench Press, 68lbs.
5x1-Dead Left, 68lbs.

I didn't warm-up properly since I didn't have a lot of time this morning, but that's something I have to start doing if I want this to work.

Also, if you guys have any suggestions on how I format my log, feel free to tell me. I'll probably be adding in my diet as well.

Ohio / A Possible "traceur Locations" Sticky.
« on: April 20, 2010, 08:03:22 AM »
Alright... It appears to me that a major problem with the Ohio group is nobody knows where anyone is located. We know that PKHZ((Fantastic group, they have an open invitation so check them out)) is located in Columbus but not everyone can make that trip all the time and it's even tougher for those who can't drive. So I think we need to make a list of our locations so we can come into a thread and say, "Ok, anyone new in the Cleveland or surrounding area?" I figure it'll be something like this;

Cincinnati Area:
John Doe

Cleveland Area:
Ryan Nicolai
Jacob Carter
Monkie
Boothey

Columbus Area:
Parkour Horizons((I think it would be helpful to point out groups as well))

We don't need addresses or anything, just a general area. I actually live 30 minutes South of Cleveland and 20 minutes West of Akron but I count myself into the Cleveland Area. If we ever need to make more specific areas, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I think this is better than just making countless threads looking for people in your area that usually end up in the second page and nobody reads that unless they have some serious time on their hands. So, let me know what you think.

Parkour And Freerunning / Parkour Envy
« on: March 18, 2009, 05:47:19 AM »
Definition: "The state of mind in which a current Traceur/Traceuse enters into if not able to train in the discipline of Parkour." In typical cases this is caused by injury, weather or lack of free time. The symptoms can range from dry sweats, shaking, muttering in their sleep about "vaulting", random outbursts of noise when passing a low wall or picnic table and many more. At the moment their is no cure for Parkour Envy except to allow the patient to begin training once again. Their have been varying results with tying patients to jungle gyms, our most promising treatment.

So yeah, that's the boat I'm in now. I sprained my ankle pretty severely about two weeks ago, not to mention I had already rolled it two weeks before that. So at the moment I can do nada. Even walking starts to agitate it. I had it checked out a week ago and was told to stay off of it, which I am for the most part. The only problem is that the weather here in my part of Ohio just warmed up, like the day after the injury. So now I'm stuck when I really want to get outside and train. I do upper body conditioning but that's it. Some headstand push-ups, qm, ground kongs with my good leg, pull-ups to name a few. It's just frustrating because every time I look outside I wanna be there but I can't and I've noticed my anger levels rising whenever I can't. It's my leg, I'm trying to take the best care of it because my career in the Marine Corps is relying on it. So, I just wanted to vent because it is starting to affect my attitude and I'm tired of being cooped up like this. I guess this is just an obstacle I'll have to complete.

Anybody know other upper body workouts that put almost no weight on your ankles... or only take one leg.

Parkour And Freerunning / You know I'm better than you.

Put the torches and pitchforks down, it's called marketing... brand recognition. I once went on this date with a girl who only bought items off of the value menu. That was pretty cool and I was like, "Wow, you're a cheap date." Then she was like, "Excuse me?" So I figured she was a little hard at hearing and I'm like, "YOU"RE A CHEAP DATE!!!"

[This is the actual post, pay no attention to the foolish writing up top. If you did then that's ok too.]

I'm writing this because I realized that my karma went up again. That's all fine and dandy but I don't know why I was applauded. If I write something that's beneficial to the Parkour community, something that helps you further yourself or just makes you chuckle, I ask that you let me know. If I write something that breaks someone down, is way off-target or just completely unnecessary, I beg you to make sure I'm aware of it. I don't care if I'm smited... it's a forum. I'm not gonna get mad if you say, "Hey, it was me. I smited you because..." How can I fix something if it's never brought to my attention? Obviously I won't always budge, but it never hurts to let me know.

That's all I had to say... I guess you can move on if you want. Actually, GET OUT YOU CHEAP DATE!!! Too good to order the Halibut? Had to get the kid's meal? "No seriously, you might just want to leave now, because this is gonna take a while." Give me my mountain dew, you've offended it!

Ohio / Ohio TraceurMap
« on: February 15, 2009, 02:38:06 PM »
Is there any type of map thing like on Facebook so we can spot where each Ohio traceur is and see how far we are from people/jams. A page with our information all typed neatly and easy to find would even work. I know we have something like that with the introduce yourself thread but maybe we could organize it... I'd be willing to spearhead this if you guys are up for it. It just seemed like we need something like this after all of these new location threads.

Let me know.

Ohio / MMA and Boxing Gyms

Does anyone know of a good gym to train in either, if not both, of these sports? Hopefully within 45 minutes of Medina. I've been looking for some on the internet but hopefully you guys can help point me in the direction of a good one.

Americans Abroad / Any traceurs in Germany?
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:15:15 PM »
I'm heading out to Germany on Thursday for a week or so. Just wondering if there is anybody out there who would like to possibly meet up and train. I'm not exactly sure where I'll be staying, but I'm gonna get that info as soon as I can.
