Maryland / Ota Jam?
« on: July 14, 2009, 04:52:00 AM »
It seems to me that I remember a pretty hoppin' jam last year during Otakon down by the convention center in Baltimore.  Is that going to happen again this year?  I kind of assumed it was, but I don't see anything about it!

And if it hasn't been planned yet, who's down for setting something up this weekend?

So... I think we should try to get another big jam in before old man winter rolls in and gets all up in our grills.

What time periods are good for people?  I cast my vote for early November.

Pennsylvania / Philly Parkour T SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST!
« on: September 26, 2008, 03:17:44 PM »
Hey gang,

I'm planning on making some Philly PK shirts, and I need some cool designs!  If you think you're man enough to photoshoop something neat-o to put on a T Shirt, send it my way!  If your design gets picked, You'll get a free shirt!

I'm not sure of the actual parameters yet, but let's try to stick with one color (because it will undoubtedly be cheaper) and hey, throw on a little design for the back if you so desire.  I want to see some creativity out there!

Good luck everyone!  Go team!

So I definitely should have put this up sooner... but better late than never.

Philadelphia is doing a big jam, and we want everyone to come who is able!  One fun filled day of PK all around historic (and not so historic) Philly!  Jam starts at 9 am at the top of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Rocky Steps, for you movie enthusiasts).  A map can be found here:

Any questions shoot me a pm!  Hope to see lots of you there!

All right, coming straight from Philadelphia, here's the first up to date collaboration video from all us cool cats in the city.  This was just some jamming we did last weekend thrown together for your viewing pleasure.  And already we're picking out what we need to fix and training hard for it already.  So in the meantime, take in the sights and enjoy.

Pennsylvania / Official Planning Thread for Philly Jam II: The Sequel
« on: January 23, 2008, 12:13:34 PM »
All right folks, this is the official planning thread for Philly Jam II: The Sequel.  I want to throw together another large and awesome jam spanning a day or two sometime in... I'm thinking May?  I want people's input.  When not to do it.  Spring breaks, birthdays, whatever should be taken into consideration.

Also, bring everyone you can think of.  Those of you who have been here know, we've got some pretty awesome spots.  So spread the love.

We meet at the top of the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 10 am.

Training Journals / Quiggz Writes Things
« on: January 07, 2008, 08:13:57 PM »
All right, I'm going to say right off the bat that this will be updated sporadically.  And may or may not remain relevant for the duration of a post.  Having said that, don't expect much from this one.

1/7/08 - Ambitions

All right, so I have returned to Philadelphia after a nice winter break in the land of my home - Buffalo, NY.  Land of snow, lots and lots of snow.  Land that makes it difficult to train in the conventional sense.  I do want to experiment with more snowkour, but I did not seize the opportunity while I was there.  I more or less took it as a break from a lot of things.  I kept myself in shape, but didn't push myself.

So to make up for that, I am being probably overly ambitious with the beginning of this new term at school.  Not all directly related to PK, but definitely will have an effect on it.  I plan to continue training (obviously) and am taking the responsibility of getting a club together (whether or not I make it an official club or not depends on how far I get on writing a constitution.  Drexel has more red tape than any other school I've ever heard of)

Beyond that, I am joining the Aikido club because it is a martial art I have always had interest in.  It's not a very hard-driving club, but I think it will be beneficial and the results are truly from how much you put into it.

In addition to that, there is a facility nearby that teaches Muay Thai, something else I have been interested in.  This, I have no doubt would push me hard and be very beneficial to me.

And on top of that, I am hoping to go to the rock climbing gym every week or so with my roommate.

So I'm looking at a lot of physical training to be done, and I am very aware that it could conceivably be too much.  But I haven't committed to anything yet, so I haven't gone in too deep yet.  I'm sure that if I find myself near my limit with just some of said activities I won't push myself too far.  But I would sure like to take this all on, because if I can then I am sure I will become a much better traceur for it.

So we'll see what happens.  I'll probably get back to this once I've settled in with whatever I take on and let y'all know how it's going.

Till then, Quiggz out.

Movement / Precision rail landings
« on: December 11, 2007, 11:37:18 AM »
All right, so I met up with some guys from my University today to train with them for the first time, and eventually came to the topic of landing precisions on railings with one of them.  This guy says his preferred method of landing on a railing is to land on the balls of his feet, he feels more comfortable and balanced that way.  I found this interesting, as it seems much of the time people try to land on the bridge of the foot because it's more centered, and there is less risk of slipping off and destroying the shins.

Anyways, I told him for now to just do what he is most comfortable with, but I was wondering what the expert opinion was on this?  Is it better to land one way or another, or should you just do what feels natural?

Injuries - Discussion / Hand Injury
« on: October 23, 2007, 05:34:15 PM »

So I made a misjudgement today on an underbar and dropped a bit more than I was expecting.  Long story short, there was no room to roll and I ended up taking a lot with my hands, which has resulted in some skin loss.

Basically, What's the reccommended way of dealing with an injury like this?  I have a large band-aid on it, did some Hydrogen Peroxide and some Neosporin, but a band-aid only holds on so well on the palm of your hand.
