Do you do parkour on hardwood floors often???

son, i "parkour" everywhere. not to mention i can get about a foot more height from my tic-tacs on brick with the ol' nikes than i can with the 510s. and i would love to recommend my nikes, only i don't know the name of their model... um they're in my picture to the left, although you cant really see anything.

my review:
i've been wearing my fiveten freerunners for a few weeks. Maybe i'm crazy, but i'm extremely dissappointed that they have the WORST grip out of all my sports shoes. They slide around on my hardwood floor like socks. and i know they're broken in, because the soles are already very worn down.
they also are my most uncomfortable sports shoes. In a nutshell, a complete waste of my money. sorry jason, nothing personal.

now on the other hand, my Asics Fuertes are AMAZING. They're wrestling shoes, and have the best grip imaginable- and i've been wearing them for about a year and they're barely worn down at all, i'll probably get another year out of them. Very flexible but NO cushion at all, like barefoot without the flesh wounds. and inexpensive, around 40 or 50 i think.

but even my old nikes that are completely falling apart are superior to the freerunners in every aspect. well, except for the tears in the top almost big enough to see my toes...

i just made a stupid mistake (tried to learn an aerial by throwing myself off a wall) and dan did a wallflip off an obstacle that he wasn't fully comfortable with yet, fell right on his head on the brick.
i'm fine, and last i heard he's fine too. we just need some rest from pk for a little while, but we'll be back up and running soon

haha the way i see it, parkour isn't all that dangerous. flipping off of brick walls is. but i only really learn things the hard way  :P

April 19, 2008 - 50 traceurs from around North Carolina met up at Chapel Hill to jam. It was a great day, load of fun, Dan got a concussion, and I broke my foot. Special Thanks to Bao and TK17 for helping put the event together. Enjoy!

you play leapfrog and roll when you land.

your friends always come to you when a ball gets thrown on the roof.

your parents tell you you're going on a road trip and you immediately check the apk forums to see if there are any traceurs in the area

not if you do it correctly, with good posture. it's called "weight-lifting". people do it a lot. it gives you muscles.

that being said, if you still want indoor training.. try tricking & breakdancing, they'll improve your parkour.

I'm a tracer.

I like freerunners.. but freerunning just isn't my thing. I should probably learn to flip better, just to aid my coordination training.
What pisses me off, though, is when somebody goes flipping and tricking and calls it parkour. When people don't make a distinction, it gives the arts the wrong names. People start to miss the whole philosophy in what I do. And while freerunners may love it, I personally hate bieng seen as a tricker. Because that's just not what I am.

So tracers and freerunners CAN harmonize, as long as a distinction is maintained.

Really I don't think there is an ideal body type...

It's mostly about body awareness and control. The more control and perception of your body that you have the better set you are.

It's more than just body awareness and control. I can do fast mucle-ups, which are all about technique. But I can't do slow muscle-ups, which are really just about your strength/bodyweight ratio. And I don't really have any "extra baggage" on me, just weightlifting type muscle.

William Belle is thin and light. Sebastian Foucan is muscular and stocky. They're both pretty damned good.
But I can't help but think that there is an ideal body type; it doesn't make sense that two opposite bodies would perform the same.

I'm 5'9" and 170lbs, minimal fat and a lot of muscle. My fellow traceurs call me the beast. But there are plenty of skinny traceurs who can perform climb-ups and muscle-ups better than me, jump higher and farther than me. My guess is that my bulky muscle is actually slowing me down.
So i'm doing an expirement. I've stopped lifting weights, and only focusing on bodyweight excersize. I eat much less meat and much more fruits & veggies. It's too early to judge results yet- it's not easy to lose muscle mass in a healthy manner..

What do you think is the ideal body type for parkour?

Anybody's welcome to jam with us in Waxhaw.
A few of us train almost daily. Every Tuesday at 6:30pm we have group jams, which can be quite large and crowded (last time there were 20+).
We meet in JAARS, at the large building by the intersection between Davis rd. and Jaars rd.
