Title: The official "Introduce Yourself" Thread
Post by: Cliff Boz on June 28, 2007, 12:11:10 PM
Check it out! If you're new to these forums and/or to Parkour and are in the NC area, introduce yourself here!

Posting your name, age, location in NC, email/AIM, and a little bit a/b yourself is a good ways to start. :)

Haha first post of July.

Anyways my name is Cory. I am 15 years old (16 in august), I live in Waxhaw (Oh yes farm land...lots of it...) but I'm right next to Mecklenburg County. I started "parkour" about 3 months ago. I use the quotations because I have osgood schlatter so I can't do a whole lot and am told not to jump or run. Opps I don't listen... :P. Although I'm not very good at it I love it.

If you feel the need to contact me...
E-mail : G4_Fighter@yahoo.com

Hope to see some of you around.

Welcome to the forums. Where are you in North Raleigh? There's some guys close by Crabtree mall.

Yeah, I live near triangle town center (so long as we're using malls as landmarks) I've got 3 other friends who live near here who are serious about Parkour. One of them is doing summer school at UNCCH so he's actually there more than he is here. Another one currently has an injured finger and I'm pretty busy for awhile but we should get together for an NC state jam eventually.

There are some who call me Paul. I am in the South Charlotte area and I am really quite new to the Parkour scene. But I have been studying Tae Kwon Do for 5 years.

Alright...
Yes, we are right next to Pineville.

Well kinda yes, I have one friend who runs.

Well I found out about Parkour from the glorious "Intar-web". I researched it a little and saw that it was really cool so I started trying some of the basics and such.

I am 16 and yeah we go to S.Meck HS. 8)

Hey guys. My name is Graydon. I'm 18. I live around South Park in Charlotte. email is gmiller4@bellsouth.net. I learned about parkour several months ago and I've been practicing the basics at home the past few weeks. I'm trying to get my friends involved, but I don't know that that will happen.

If anyone knows where I could pick up some size 15 Adidas Novas around Charlotte please tell me.

Welcome, Gmiller! It's awesome to see another new face show up! RE your friends getting involved: yea Parkour just isn't for everyone. A lot of ppl will think it looks easy or is just silly or something. IMO, they're intimidated by the prospect of moving differently from everyone else. ;) That's just one of many many reasons someone might be reluctant to try Parkour, though. If it isn't what someone is interested in, you can't force 'em, u know?

Well if you're looking for ppl to jam with, you got 'em right here. U checked out the Regular Jams Thread? We run pretty much every Thurs at 7-7:30 on UNCC's campus. Gotta jam tonight if you want to join. Interested?

As far as the Adidas Novas goes, is the problem finding Novas, or is the problem finding the size you want? If it's the size, you might have to go online for 'em, u know?
Title: Re: The official "Introduce Yourself" Thread
Post by: Gmiller on July 12, 2007, 10:36:32 AM
I guess the problem is finding any good shoe in that size. But I like Adidas shoes. They fit me well.

I'll try to be there tonight. Where exactly are yall starting on the UNCC campus? And where should I park to get there?

I doubt anybody will check the forums before the jam tonight so I'll jump in.

Graydon, We meet in Belk Tower around 7 or 7:30, like Cliff said.  If you go north in University City Blvd, you will pass the campus on your left and then you turn left when you see a Circle K gas station, thats John Kirk ave (i think).  I usually park in the first apartments complex to the right.  If you want, you can meet me there around 7:15pm or so. If you have aim, IM me at cronowarrior007.  Im not sure how to post pictures, but if you go to the uncc website, im sure you can find where Belk Tower is.

Hello...I just was looking around - I've been interested in the free running activities for about a year now, and was looking for forums related to such.

Anyway, I am 20 years old, a Junior at UNCC, and used to take Karate for four years.  I loved it, and have been looking for some kind of activity I can commit myself to in college.  I quit Karate the same time I came to college, and it didn't make for a great combination, so I'm somewhat out of shape now.  Anyway, I was just interested in running with you guys sometime...I know I, in all likelihood, won't be able to keep up at first, but working at it in a group is far more beneficial, and I'm also a lot more inclined to learn and push myself harder by being with others.

My hometown is Clemmons, right below winston-salem, about an hour from greensboro, so I can pretty much head most of the more popular places in the state without it taking too long if I can find the dedication to stick with it, which I hope it will be enjoyable enough to do so.  Oh, yes, and I need to go find some decent shoes.

Well, thanks for taking the time to read this.

William

Hello, my name is Marshall Feis.  I turn 20 in a few weeks, and I have been practicing "parkour" (under that name) for roughly a year.  I have always been somewhat of a climber, but I think many can relate to the "wow" impression they felt when watching David Belle (and other highly experienced traceurs) for the first time.  The lack of numerous urban obstacles has somewhat impeeded my progress on several of the established movements, but I am looking forward to meeting other traceurs and training diligently!

I live in the small town of Oakboro, almost 40 miles east of downtown Charlotte.  I am hoping to meet up with those at UNC Charlotte soon.  :)

Welcome, welcome azrael and fiddlinboy! :D

Yep, we meet at least every Thursday at Belk tower on UNCC's campus. The time isn't exact, I like to be there closer to 7 to have plenty of time to warm up and stretch (and to get a good night's jam in), but sometimes ppl are a little slow a/b getting out and make it there more like 7:30. :)

I'd put money on it that we're running this Thurs! Hopefully it won't rain on us again and we'll finally be able to have a big "1st jam of the semester" jam... :D Come on out!!

Post on these forums or email for directions or any help/questions you may need/have. :D

Just to clarify things, we're meeting at the apartments listed in the "Regular Jams" thread instead of the belk tower, right?

And yes, I'm looking forward to it - I have a feeling I will be watching/learning moreso than doing, but it's a progression, like all things.  Thanks again,

William

Well, meeting at Monk's is moreso for the ppl who have cars and need to park. We do so to avoid parking charges on-campus. You can mos def meet us there, tho! We meet at Monk's, then walk over to Belk. Either way you wanna do it is all fine by me. :)

Hello, my name is Randal, i live near Asheville,NC in a little hell hole called Marion,NC. Its a good two hour drive to Charlotte from here but i drove to warped tour this year and it wasnt so bad. Um,...started practicing basic Parkour movements and concepts about four months ago, but sadly its been hard for me to get much farther than i am due to a wrist injury which broke it in three places.

Well if anyone on here lives near me just give me a call and we should get together and have a session together, and also if anyone has info about an open gym near either Asheville or Marion let me know. Thanks, much love.

My friends and i felt lonely in our hometown but oddly enough it seems as though people here may be catching on....not good but catching on nonetheless ;D.

Well all best wishes, Randal.

Hi, Mat & Mat's mom!

Wow, seven is a real young age! That's pretty interesting that he wants to learn Parkour, very cool. Are you looking more for traceurs (Parkour atheletes) in/around Asheville, NC, or more for tips/advice on how to teach Parkour to someone so young?

If it's the former, I personally don't know of any traceurs in/around Asheville, though. :\ I wouldn't be surprised if I were mistaken, however. :)

If it's the latter, off of the top of my head I know that gearsighted  (http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=3) has young children, and I'm sure he teaches and has been teaching them for some time now. He might be able to offer some pointers. Send him a PM if you like. :)

Hey!  It turns out I do in fact have a login here.  I'm not a robot after all!

So, yeah... I'm over on ncparkour, but I just moved to Charlotte a week ago.  My enthusiasms include music, movies, sandwiches, and general skullduggery.

I'm really looking forward to getting out with some guys and doing some parkour.

Oh, and Mat/Mat's mom - be really careful about parkour that young, especially drops.  At that age, the knees and ankles have some developing yet to do and you don't want to do any damage.  Just FYI.

How's it going, Marcus? Welcome! We meet Thursday evenings at least, starting around 7-7:30 on UNCC's campus. Join as you are willing and able. :)

Parkour def is motivation to get in shape. The Parkour itself isn't quite so much as what gets you fit as does the conditioning FOR Parkour. If you wan't do do x "move", but aren't strong/flexible/coordinated enough, it makes you WANT to train so that you can. :)

JCC? We meet primarily on UNC-Charlotte's campus. If/when you want to go, we might could carpool. It's a solid half-hour drive up 485 from Matthews.

Hey all.  I just joined up at NCparkour.com and figured I'd join up here as well.

Let's see, I'm 25, originally from Charlotte, moved to Greensboro about 6-7months ago.  I'm brand new to Parkour but excited about starting it, just hope I don't kill myself doing it.  Aside from the parkour I also contact juggle and am an unpublished(hopefully one day I'll be published) writer, work at Starbucks, and do that thing called school at GTCC.

Good to see you on here, too David. :D

"Contact juggle"? This is what I came up with when I looked it up on teh intartubes:

and

That doesn't seem like a lot of fun, hehehe .........................................

Welcome to the scene, montagne! Here on the apk boards mainly those of us here in Charlotte speak up. By and large the dudes in Burlington and that area keep in touch via the ncparkour.com boards. :) I think that mostly everyone in NC checks both, though...

Be sure to read up a/b the 5th NC state-wide jam (NCPKJ5) coming up April 19th in Chapel Hill. Be there or be [ ]... yeah. heh.

Hey welcome to the area, JFParkour/Jacob! Hey if you live in Cinci, say hi to Andy H. if you see him. Tall lanky dude who is active with the Parkour scene there. :D

Give us a head's up as to when you want to jam and something can probably be gotten together. :D

My wife's got a good friend who is from Shelby, hah! Small world. Didn't even know there was a Univ there! :P

Thanks for the warm welcome! I live outside of Cincy, so I don't think I will see your friend...(I live in Fairfield Ohio). But when I come down in August, I'll let you guys know, and we can jam every few weeks or something... By then I should be decent...lol. Gardner-Webb University isn't techincally in Shelby, its in Boiling Springs, but its a one stoplight town that touches up against Shelby...so yea.
Thanks Again!

Hey, guys. Technically I live in Virginia, but in the fall i'll be attending Elon University. Elon's pretty much halfway between Winston-Salem and the Raleigh-Durham area, and it's also about 30 minutes away from Greenesboro. I've found a few people who will also be freshmen next fall who've said they're interested in learning more about free running and parkour. So hopefully next fall I'll have a few other people to go to some jams with (main reason being I don't have a car :P ).

I'm 18, I've been practicing parkour and freerunning for about a year and a half now. But it's been so HHHHHOOTTTTTT up here in Virigina (and most other places I suppose) that we haven't been able to do much lately. I'm really excited about coming to NC next fall. It was my first home as I was born in Charlotte. And I plan on doing a lot of practicing while I'm in college! AIM is MinorKingS4L (although I really don't get on a lot. E-mail is better) Email is scalawag720@gmail.com

Happy Training! Stay safe!

Hey Seth! I'll probably copy and past post this on ncparkour, so excuse the repetition...

Dang you're like less than 10 mins or so from where I am in Matthews. Us in Charlotte jam Thursday evenings at the very least. Want to jam tomorrow? I'm already carpooling with another "new guy" from Matthews, so one more wouldn't be much trouble. What do you say?

Our jams begin between 7-7:30 and go near 3 hrs. We'll be going up to UNCC's campus, so let me know as soon as you know if you are willing and able to make it!

Either way it's no pressure no problem. :)

Hey folks, I'm Joe.  I'm from around Mount Airy; I live really close to where the Blue Ridge Parkway changes from NC to VA.  Right now though I'm attending Chapel Hill.  I've never really tried Parkour or Free-running before, but I'm pretty interested and I'm looking into getting into it.  Mostly a sport-oriented person, so Parkour is going to be a bit of a new experience.  Don't really know of anybody who does Parkour around here and I'm having some trouble getting some friends involved, so hopefully I can meet some of you folks here in Chapel Hill or elsewhere.

Well, considering this thread has had only four posts since the new year, I think I should just head over to ncparkour and see what the deal is there.
But for anyone who is interested, I am Andrew, I'm 16, and i live in Mooresville, which is between Concord and Statesville on I-77.  There used to be a freerunning club at my school, but it was too expensive, and I think most of the kids who were in it are too busy getting stoned to go out for a good workout anyway.
I'd say the easiest way to contact me is myspace.com/twiggs101
Does anyone know if the UNCC jams are still going on?  Wrestling season's over, and I need something to stay in shape, and I think it would be cool to find other people who are interested in the art of movement, especially when it's only 30 minutes out.

I mean, what better sport then one created as a means to rescue others!  Any ways, I am a major beginner and though I have some background in martial arts,  (Karate, Akido, Capoirea, Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do, and Tai Chi), I would really Love to meet some others in my area who have some more experience then I do.  I need a teacher!  Well, that's me!

Hey Cory, I use to have that around the same age as you. I played soccer competitively so I know how you feel.
If you do not already have one I would recommend getting a knee brace specifically for your osgood schlatter. It helped me tremendously. and make sure you ice it regularly... obviously

My name is Evert. I live in Waynesville, which is about 20 minutes from Asheville. I'm 14 (will be 15 in October). I started freerunning in the summer of '09 so it's been over a year I've been at it. I love free running...It's my passion. When I get my license I will be able to go to some other hotspots around here and that will be fun because I have almost burnt out all of the places to free run in Waynesville.

Hello Amigos
My name is Allen.  I am a 31yr old novice of PK.  I am in the hickory, nc area if anyone is looking for a training partner.  I have only been doing PK for a little more than a month.  My training partners have been tutorials on here and youtube.  My son occasionally joins in.  email me if you want to train.  I have yet to do my first Jam.  I am still trying to get into better shape.

I'm not sure if my introduction was posted or not. So I'm doing it again.

Hi, My name is Nathan Chatham.
I live in Clemmons, NC but I can easily get to the YMCA there. My neighborhood is right behind the YMCA. :P
I've been practicing parkour since I was 12 and I am 13 now.
So if you are more experienced in parkour, and are able to get to the YMCA at Clemmons,
Then I would like to train with you!!
If you are able to, then please either E-mail me at
nthchatham@aol.com
or add me on face book by looking up
Nathan Chatham.
The profile pic looks like a kid on his knees in a greenish jacket.
Also, in the friend request make sure you tell me that your part of the APK community.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you!!

And I'm glad to be part of this!

Talk to you all later
-Nathan Chatham

If you wouldn't mind helping me with any of this, e-mail me at jrdncourts@yahoo.com. I cant wait to hear from someone who would help me get started.

Sara, we have about three to four state jams throughout the year but there are guys that regularly train in Charlotte, Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, and Greenville. Unfortunately, the closest guys are about a 90min drive away from Camp Lejune or Cherry Hill. If you're ever interested in coming up to Raleigh, be sure to let me know! Also, check out NCParkour.com

Hi Im Tristan
Im 19 and I graduated from Princeton High School
I live in Smithfield, near the Outlets, a good 30 minutes from Raleigh.
I Hate it here, theres not many places to free run, so I travel when I do, but our local parks aren't too bad.

Ive been freerunning for a little over a year now, and Im not the best because I took a lot of breaks for many things. Im starting to get back into it a little more, and if you wanna chat or run a jam or something hit me up on facebook!

Whats up, my name is Kacper and I'm 16 years old. Just moved down here from upstate NY, and ive on the outskirts of Mocksville. I have been doing some basic parkour for about a year and a half now, though I've been slacking lately. I think...that's everything...don't really have a favorite place to train, but i wouldn't mind heading out for a good run.  ;D

Hi, I'm Greg. I am 15 and I live on Camp Lejeune. There's a few decent places to train with a bit of a walk or run between, and there are few fellow traceurs anyone know of here, and they happen to be occupied with other matters. Yet still I like the adventuring for oppurtunities, and training alone is good for a more personal development.

hi, my name is Dylan and i desperately need someone to help me,about a week ago my tendon detached from my knee cap, i had surgery soon after that and it will take a few months for me to recover they claim ill make a full recovery, but i am unsure of whether ill be able to continue with parkour. im only 13 years old and this generally only occurs to 60 year olds and up.i just want someone who somewhat knows about this type of thing, because parkour is one of the things i care about most.my skill level is ok for my age if i didnt have this happen i would be working on things like corks and perfecting a jstep gainer. soe one please email me; dylan.za@hotmail.com
