Sup guys.

I'm a 22 year old guy that just got transferred to Fort Campbell for the Army. I've been in the PK scene for a long time. Since '07. Just wondering what the training and stuff was like around here and see if anyone wanted to train together on the weekends. Working on my doctorate at the moment/Army life, so my time is pretty much limited to weekends Friday-Sunday.

Anyways, hit me up guys. Happy to train with anyone really. I live in Clarksville, but I don't mind going to Nashville. Going to go their monthly for open gyms for sure.

Hey guys,

I know I don't post on here much anymore but I still love you all.
Basically Axe is sending the top ten people in this contest to a space camp and the best of it actually get to go to ****ing space.
I'm in the top 12 at the moment. In the world.

APK Store / Products / So I got the APK backpack for Christmas

And it's already come undone at the seems. I have not used it for anything except carrying some clothes. But I pick it up one evening and it's come unraveled and tearing already. Any way I can exchange it? It was a Christmas present and I like it, but this one is not holding together.

We will send a new one out right away, please send the old one back. That goes for both of you.

We'll be testing the bladders personally on each one before they go out. The test ones we got had no issues, and some of the ones we sent have had issues, so we'll be testing each one before it goes out, and then switching brands.

For future reference, sending an email to the store "Sales@americanparkour.com" would have been a lot faster than posting in the forums :)

Consumer Whores / Mizuno Universe 4 Shoe Review

Since my Reebok's are discontinued and I had to lay them to rest I thought I'd invest in another shoe. I don't like Vibram's but I don't like hugely padded shoes either. I tried to find a medium so I bought these. They are technically "minimalist" (they only weigh like 3.8 oz) but at the same time they're not minimalist which I dig. They are the lightest racing shoe ever created by Mizuno. But without further discussion...




FIT: 8/10
Bought them assuming they were gonna run small but they actually run like 1/2 size large. Despite this I can still wear my pair fine and they're comfortable overall.



FLEXIBILITY:10/10
Like I said they are "technically minimalist but at the same time they're not". The only weight in this entire shoe comes from the sole. The shoe itself is near weightless. Needless to say they can bend however you want them to.


WEIGHT:10/10
3.8 oz apiece. Retardedly light. I dig them.


GRIP:8/10
Grass I haven't really got to try much, but I did go for a run (3-4 miles) on nothing but grass in them and there were no slips.
Concrete they are very grippy. Pretty much same level as my Ariake's. Can stop on a dime as well.
Rails and painted surfaces they grip fairly well. Haven't had any major slip yet. Just the usual stuff.
Have not rain tested yet.

BREATHABILITY:10/10
Oh my god. Talk about breathable. The shoe itself must be made pretty much feathers. These things are very breathable. So in other words, your feet might be cold in the winter.



CUSHIONING:6/10
All the weight of these shoes is in the sole. It absorbs shock pretty well, but at the same time they are SUPPOSED to be kinda "minimal". There is pretty much no insole. So yeah, good technique needed. I haven't had any problem with drops about 8 feet though as long as I roll out.



Durability: ???/10
Only had them for about a month.  But no signs of wear and tear yet. Soles aren't even really scuffed. Thought these things would rip fast but they've been steadfast. I would hope so because....



Price:$$$/10
 ....I paid a lot for them. A pair of these will run you about $120.00 USD. I guess I'm what most people will call "The 1%". So this section has never been an issue for me. But I know it might be for some others.



GENERAL COMMENTS:
I like them a lot really. Never got on the Vibram train and I like my shoes to look like...well shoes. These were designed to run marathons, but at the same time be worn pretty much everywhere. If you want a shoe that is super light and responsive that still looks like a fucking shoe, buy them. But I would honestly only recommend these shoes to more advanced individuals.




The Bottom Line:
I dig them. Probably gonna rock them and buy a few more pairs. Sonic the Hedgehog has his trademark pair of shoes, I think I might've found mine. Time will tell.

Pros: Unrivaled responsiveness, look FLY AS FUARRRRRK
Cons: Price?

Yo,

So I know I come off as a grumpy old man on these forums but that's just because I've been on here forever and see all this stuff rehashed over and over again.

But for a change of pace I thought I'd post something different.

As many of you know, last March I suffered a medial meniscal tear in my left leg during the middle of a tricking combo. I lost the ability to walk for 3 months and couldn't run for another 1. It was a very depressing time. Once my leg was healed (still be cautious on it till I'm at least a year out of the injury) I got a re-appreciation for the ability to be able to simply run. It was at this point that I started doing a lot of running. I weekly now cover about 35-40 miles. I'd do more but I'm trying to avoid stressing my leg too much.

Recently I had the opportunity to train with a few guys from out of town. They showed up and they appeared to be at an intermediate level at least as far as tricking and whatnot were concerned. We did some movement training for an hour or so and after they were about done for the day I asked them if they wanted to join me on a short run of about 4 miles. Not a big deal.

What pissed me off though was the response.

"Oh no, we don't run."

So a little bit annoyed I asked them then if they'd rather just go to the track and do some sprints. I love doing 100, 200, and 400m sprints and you need to train sprints to build up speed not just for short distances, but for long distances as well.

However again.

"Oh no, we don't like to do sprints."

I was about to blow up on them but decided to say f#ck it and be like, "Aight brah. Peace out." And then went on my run.

However, this mindset has been annoying the crap out of me. That was not the first time I heard it and I myself am guilty of once upon a time of having it. After going through quite a few showreels of just flash (which don't get me wrong. I'm a tricker, I love the shit out of flash and do it quite a bit) I started thinking, "I wonder how many people that claim to practice parkour or freerunning ACTUALLY DO THE RUNNING PART?"

Do you guys incorporate any running at all into your training? More importantly, do you feel that just doing movement training is a sufficient enough training curriculum to allow you to make the claim that you actually practice pk/fr? If you said "No" to the first question or "Yes" to the second question, I think you're retarded.

So here's my proposition if you don't run.

Go outside, go run for a mile and a half minimum. Keep your HR at about 65-80% MHR (max heart rate) after this, trying doing some movement training and tell me how it feels.

If you're not running, you're not training right.

Tricking / Double Back any advice?

Yo guys. I'm gonna be healed up like three weeks and as soon as I heal I want to start working to land my double backs. Apart from just maximizing your roundoff is there any special thing you're supposed to do except flip twice of course? Also, when exactly should your second flip begin? Bear in mind that I am a 200 lb. dude but I know I have the air to land this. Thanks guys.

Injuries - Discussion / Meniscus Tear: Update: I done gots it fixed.

Yo.

So I was at the gym yesterday and me and some guys were just warming up. About 25-30 minutes into the session I threw a 540 kick. Not a big deal I do them all the time and they are pretty much second nature to me. However, for some reason I locked my kicking leg out in mid air and landed on it and it hyperextended on me. I heard what sounded like a rip and it was very unstable.

I went to a doctor today (knee specialist) and got some X-Rays. He told me that I just sprained my MCL and that my leg still felt too stable to have torn my ACL. I still opted to go get an MRI and will be getting one here in a few days just in case.

However, I am freaking myself out and I'm super paranoid. My doctor said he didn't think my ACL was torn, my X-Rays look fine, and that I was worrying over nothing. But am I? I'm not doing anything for the week. Just resting, but if my ACL is torn, how bad do you think it could've been if it wasn't even noticed yet. And if I did rip out, how long is the recovery. What is the surgery like? I'm super worried at the moment and I don't want to quit tricking because of this. Please help me out guys. Thanks.

So this is an idea that has been going through my head for a long time and now it looks like it might actually be coming to fruition. So I thought I'd share it with you guys in case you're not my friend on facebook and didn't see the post.

Basically, if I were to buy or rent a house that around 5-6 guys could live in (or more depending on how may people were interested), that was near a gym with regular open gym sessions and had a nice backyard and in close proximity to a moderate to large city, would anyone want to move in and we could all do what we love and be boss as hell? This idea has been nicknamed The Traceur House

The EARLIEST this idea will appear will be Winter of next year (Around March 2012), when I get out of college.

We're gonna be out of San Antonio, TX now.


I'm only looking for serious traceurs over the age of 18 that would be interested in this.

That's John Michael Wilson, he owns a Crossfit Gym in Lake Charles LA. He just messaged me on facebook today about doing a parkour/freerunning/tricking demo for him at his gym on May 21st. Those of you who know me, know that for the most part I train by myself, so I am going to post this here for all Louisiana runners to see. If you can and want to come, message me on here or on facebook and reply to this post. While you're at it, go ahead and add the dude on facebook and tell him you're with me and you're one of the runners that can and WILL be at the demo.

I want to get this figured out and situated ASAP so I can see who all can make it and where and when we'd all meet up and head to the gym together. So yeah guys, GET AT IT.

Btw, you don't need to be super amazing. Just be willing to do some pk stuff while you're there. I'm sure that me and Colby can handle most of the flip stuff. I dunno how much these guys know about PK, but I'll be in touch and I'll relay the info to you guys.
