10,000 hours of training is what they say it requires to truly master a given field of study be it an instrument, a sport or even auto mechanics..

Personally, I think 10,000 hours is being optimistic, I've spent WELL over that long already learning my trade and still have a LONG LONG way to go. Heck my mentors have 20+ years of experience, some closer to 40 years. They all say the same thing "I learn something new every day."

I remember being told once that no matter how long or how hard you train someone will always come along to teach you that you are not the best and you still have much to learn. Thus you are never the master, always the student. There is no such thing as mastering a skill set, you only become more and more proficient at it.

What is the point of Training if you don't have fun doing it?

Not directly related to parkour but I think it can tie in somehow.

I used to hate a lot of the training I do, but love the job that I do. Not to many people enjoy running around with anywhere from 60-150 lbs of gear on your back for 5-10 hours depending on the day but it's what I have to do. After a while you either quit or become a masochist, living for the days you get to display that strength and skill that your hard work has given you.

To sum it up, sometimes you have to do stuff that sucks in order to be able to do something you enjoy.

I'm back CONUS now. Used to train with Mississippi Gulf Coast Parkour. Not sure if there still alive and kicking now though or not. Spend enough time over seas and ya kinda lose touch of people, you know, all those Japanese wome- I mean all those Japanese hot spots.  ;D

Injuries - Discussion / Running issue, looking for input.

This isn't an injury per say but is getting on my nerves and I can't find out what is wrong so I'm coming to APK to see if anyone has experienced anything similar before I head to a Doc.

Let me start with the background. I have been living in Japan for around a year. While in japan I was running Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Four miles in the morning and six miles in the evening and feeling fine. I was also spending a good bit of time on Mt Fuji (above 5000 feet) I had no injuries and was holding a pretty good pace. I never made a point to time my runs but I know I was getting the 4 milers in 30 minutes or less and the 6 milers in 50-60 minutes depending on the day. Basically I was healthy and about to bump my evening runs up to 7-8 milers.

I returned to the USA 30 Aug 2012, I live in South Mississippi. Since I have returned I have struggled to get 4 miles at a slow pace. I haven't been breathing to hard, it just feels like I have no energy what so ever when I run. Finally I ran the other day and felt like I was doing better on my 4 milers. Then there was this morning. I woke up and went to a 1/4 mile track to run. I did the first lap SLOW and thought I was gonna die. My heart rate felt WAY to high for just that little of a run and I was breathing like I just sprinted that lap. I pushed it out until I got to 1 1/4 miles and HAD to stop. As soon as I stopped I could feel my heart pounding like crazy and my vision went red.

Needless to say this is annoying, I need my milage to go up and I can't do that with these kinda issues. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I grew up on a farm myself, it can be tricky to find stuff but not impossible. Some wooden fences, like corner stalls, or stables can be good for vaults, and in bigger barns you can find some good wall up and muscle up spots. Though if you want tips on speed I'm pretty sure you know how to improve that, if not I'll be happy to give you that secret technique. ;D

Get the next two days off duty. On top of that my Squadron won best of its kind in the AF, which makes us the best in the world by default, because the USAF can't be beat.

I got to sit in a unventilated room with not A/C in MOPP 4 for 2 hours and get to do it again tomorrow for maybe 4-6 hours. SO AWESOME.

ODA's were already sent in a little while back, problem is being taken care of as we speak. On the Osama bit, there was never going to be a trail, capture was never a tangible option. Whether the President liked it or not, the boys on the ground decided a long time ago, it was a kill mission.

Saved a slightly intoxicated guy in my building from bringing a tranny into his room. Toke me about 15 minutes to convince him that it was a he not a she, but finally got um to take "IT" away. Boy was that a weird night, I'm never gonna let that poor joker live it down though. In his defense, occasionally some of the Japanese guys are a little to girly looking, add in beer and well there's a reason the wingman concept was invented.
