If i were you i would offer to clean any graffiti of the building you are using if you really like that spot in reaturn for them letting you use their building for parkour. This is directed at the guy who orgionally made this thread not really for the current discussion.

actually that was my first move.  the city wouldn't allow us to clean it, because its a liability problem for us to use a pressure washer.  I'm really glad that i didn't thoroughly explain parkour to the guy- we haven't heard anything from him since.

I don't support M2 in what he's doing, I have that right, but he also has the right to do what he's doing.
He has justified himself and there's nothing we can do..

But...with this he will lose support and respect not only in America, but the international Parkour community as well.

Not necessarily will he be outcast and exiled, but there will be a backlash against APK(website) and perhaps the American Parkour Community itself.

A backlash?  M2 and APK will have my support so long as they continue to respect my opinion, which they completely do.  If you don't like competition, then don't go to any.  If you think the entire parkour community should not be competing, then tell me that, because I would like to hear your side.  But if you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't say anything and let me learn from this community in peace!

some parts were kinda slow. but it's always good to look back at your firsts! eh?

At first, I was really embarrassed of this video, because it is really slow and it has really bad technique and control.  Now that we have been conditioning for a few months, looking back on this I'm going "Whoa- I can do that so much better."

We're going to make a new video soon, as an update.  It still won't be world class, but the experience I garnered from the first video should come in useful.

M2 and everyone else-

I want to thank you for APK and everything it has done for me.  My friends and I started with parkour very sloppily because we watched some videos on the net.  When I found APK, i learned so much from it, and I was able to help teach my friends.  We now condition and practice with safety in mind, and I have seen some major improvements in myself and my friends.  This is mostly because of our determination to be the BEST (that we can be), but the knowledge and skill of this community has also directly contributed to our success.  It has also linked us with some other locals, and provided me with some good feedback on diet and injury issues.

I am very thankful for this site.  I'm glad that there is a forum open where I can post my opinion and be reasonably assured that someone will take it seriously.

As for competition, I personally do not care.  I see both sides of the argument, and might consider attending a competition in the future, when I'm better.  As far as it goes, I see that I would simply be getting to know more people in the national community.  Paintball as a sport has greatly benefited from competition, though it is now suffering from huge amounts of marketing and commercialism.  But that's AMERICA.   (i'm a socialist, and i hate walmart, so let that be accounted for...)

Those of you who are asking M2 to change his opinion to suit your needs, please stop it.  Mark has been a huge help for myself and my friends, and has never pushed any sort of doctrine on me.  He states his opinion, just like any other active contributor to this community, and he should not have to change his opinion merely because he owns and operates this site.  If you disagree with his opinion, then tell him via the forums so that the site can accurately portray the opinions of those involved.  Don't ask the mods to do that for you.

Many thanks to M2 and the Tribe.  The tutorial DVD was awesome by the way.  It was a huge help!

Diet / Re: Vegetarian Diet

OK guys what I'm seeing here is pretty good stuff.

To summarize, be careful of soy products, as soy does have some side effects which are recent developments.  Beans, lentils, nuts, quorn and seeds, milk, cheeses, eggs are sources of protein for the vegetarian.

What are you trying to say about pills and powders?  I've been doing some protein shakes from GNC lately, and am wondering about those.

BTW to everyone who says I should eat meat- I had some venison on Friday.  I know for sure that it wasn't treated in a cruel manner, except for the bullet that ended its life, and still didn't have taste for it.  I made it through one piece, and couldn't eat any more.

As far as eggs not being vegetarian, that's not true.  As someone mentioned earlier, vegans are the stricter vegetarians, who won't consume any product made from animals.  I'm not there.  I am making sure that my eggs come from uncaged hens though.

Gear- I really don't mind the general debate about vegetarianism; I merely am tired of being attacked because I withhold from eating meat.

Thanks everyone else for helping me out.  This has been useful to me so far.

Oh yeah, Sat, I never thought you were being sarcastic.  I promise you, you can't offend me, so don't worry about it.

bob do you remember when you were in school (or if you still are) when your teacher made your write a persuasive essay?  The whole point of a persuasive essay is to get your point across which is what this article was.

Sat, I am currently attending university, and every time I write a persuasive essay, I at least touch on some of the opposing arguments.  That's how one remains objective.

There are many points that Dr. Daniel could have touched on, such as the hormones fed to America's livestock to fatten them up, which also have an adverse effect on humans (especially children).  It would be a logical explanation as to why McDonald's is so bad for us. There was also no mention of any of soy's benefits.  (look in the comments below the interview for "lecithin", just for an example)

I agree that the Dr. Daniel made his point, and made it strongly.  But he did nothing to defend his position from his opposition (which seems to be me and probably the Soy Industry). There was, however, a big mention of his book, which typically means to me that an author is trying to get paid, as opposed to doing a public service.

In not being objective in the interview, it allowed for such opinions as, "I['m] forwarding this to everyone I know...especially my fiancee. No soy in my house.  Scary shit." to be formed.  Someone is now scared of soy, and will cause his fiancee trouble, because he did not use his skepticism properly.

None the less, the article does contain some insight that I found useful.  Now that I am a vegetarian, I know that I should not depend on soy products solely to provide my body with the protein I need.

The whey powders are something I've been thinking about.  Also, what about protein bars?

Stay the hell away from soy.

Agreed:

I'm sorry, but I'm a little skeptical of this article.  Its not that I like soy alot or anything (don't like tofu at all), but the guy seems to want to sell the book.  He didn't mention any of the positive effects of soy.

What I'm saying is that the article was biased.  Anyone have an objective article with a side by side comparison of the pros and cons?  Its simply too easy to say that too much of any substance is bad for your body...

I do want to thank everyone for replying though.

Gus, from 3Run and NC Parkour forums has organized a jam for April 28th at UNC. Do you guys think you can come?  :P

I think I might be able to be there, with a contingent of Rock Hill guys possibly.

I recently made a decision to become a vegetarian.  Its a moral decision for me, and I'm tired of people questioning me about it, so please don't here.

What I would like some help with is dietary advice.  I know that meat is a good source of protein, and lately I've been doing a hell of a lot of conditioning, so I'm trying to keep my intake levels the same.  Anyone?

I swear to goodness if you all don't STFU! Now, make with the funny.

The movie was great.  I didn't really know alot of the history, but it was obvious that the movie was exaggerated.  And for that, I personally do appreciate the history tidbits that I can quickly read on a social forum, instead of doing a large amount of research.

Not bitching... just saying.

This was done during the 17 March protest, and the sign is right before the bridge, coming out of the Pentagon.

Right now it looks like I'll be the only one tomorrow.  Everyone else is busy with something or another.

We'll see what tomorrow holds.  I'm going to Crowder's (sp?) Mountain tomorrow, to go play on some rock faces.  It should be sufficiently awesome.

I know our skill is lacking, and knew that before I posted the vid.  I am going to keep making periodic videos, because I think it will be interesting to see our progression, and also because I when I said it was the first video I have made, I implied EVER.

So my video skills must improve, and I will train them by making videos.

Our technique also has a lot of room for improvement.  But this video represents a snapshot of where we are today.  This is how the guys from Rock Hill roll.

So, check this out.  I offered to clean the graffiti myself, with my pressure washer.  The city's insurance company considers it a liability issue for us to clean the walls.

So here's the new plan.  We're going to get spray bottles with paint thinner, and go clean the walls up at night sometime.  We will be illegally cleaning the graffiti off the walls.  I hope we get stopped by the cops.

To those of you who think that all graffiti is an art, and that I'm going to be destroying it, look at it this way:  the graffiti we're going to be cleaning is racist, ugly, says something about the "PB&J" boys, etc.  I personally will be glad to see it gone.

Hey guys.  This is the first video I have ever made.  We filmed the shots with a regular digital camera, and I edited the video on Windows Movie Maker, so the quality is lacking.

Let me know what you guys think.  Understand, we've only been doing parkour for a few months.  Enjoy.
