learn rolls better before you try them with a drop.

Parkour / Re: Dash vault-straight legs
« on: August 18, 2014, 01:28:07 PM »
Good on you, Dick

also, back on topic, straightening your legs is the wrong cue. Actually what you need to do is open your hips. If your legs are relaxed that will extend them more, but the dash vault gets power from the kipping movement at the end.

Also, the picture that was posted is a TERRIBLE dash vault. People might argue about whether it looks good aesthetically. To me it doesn't because something that is going to break your wrists eventually looks ugly.

I don't think there's a good reason to learn both sides.

it doesn't look strange, it's just really high, which makes it obvious that you're twisting late. keep that height and twist a little earlier and it will be gorgeous.

a month is a long time when you train every day, but then you step back and realize it's only been 30 days :) I can see so much improvement since last time, keep it up guys!

I'd have said cheerleading vs gymnastics

nothing wrong with tumbling mate, but yeah it does show that there's been a lot more work put into that than any of the parkour skills. But you have the entire year to improve, so that's alright as well. Can't wait to compare month 12 to month 1.

you haven't broken them in yet. I assume it's because you're not training enough.

*dyno (short for dynamic; it's a climbing term)

and it's where you are hanging on a ledge, and throw yourself up to a higher ledge and grab on. It's what I do at 1:00 in this video

good safety vaults are at least as fast as speed vaults, and more widely adaptable.

Movement / Re: Roll pain on concrete - tried all tips.

I think your angle is too shallow. Try rounding your shoulder more and twisting (opening) your hips a little bit at the end. Also keep in mind that the floor looks slippery, that WILL affect your roll to an extent. Have you tried on actual concrete outside?

not really, I've never done that before I don't think. What part of your body are you bouncing off of?

Movement / Re: Moving my rolls to concrete?

painless rolls are definitely possible; if  the simplest roll on anything harder than grass couldn't be painless then everyone who uses rolls in a real situation (from drops, at speed, etc.) would wreck themselves.

Movement / Re: Help critique my roll

surprised nobody has said this yet: Don't cross your legs coming out of the roll. It's slower, more awkward and I'm pretty sure not good for your joints if you do it at speed or on a hard surface.

-The foot that is forward upon exiting should be on the same side as the shoulder you enter with, and opposite the hip that you roll to.

-Don't compress too much before the roll or it will be useless. Instead, kind of dive into the roll

-be aware of your surroundings. Don't roll over sharp things, uneven surfaces, etc. Even a small slope can mess up the roll and hurt if unaccounted for. That one is pretty much common sense.

-Learn when to roll. It doesn't matter if you have a great roll if you never use it. Conversely, if you roll too much you can seriously slow yourself down.

that's all I can think of right now. Hope it was helpful.
