June 10
APK Warm-up followed by a light one mile jog.

June 11
APK Warm-up. Light PK practice; mostly vaults and some precisions from benchs. Ended with a jog - 2.5 miles at a brisk pace and some lazy laps around the pool.

June 12
PK training. Work primarily on vaults with a combination of balance training [walking on rails]. Ended shortly after I botched an attempt at a kong and hitting my knee against the horizontal pole I was using for practice. Knee is still stiff and I'll be keeping off of it for the next few days. [hopefully not very long].

FAQ / Re: What shoes should I wear for Parkour?
« on: June 09, 2006, 09:21:10 AM »
Ok, first post here, I'd like to make it a good one.

I have an interesting condition going on with my body, specifically, my feet. My left foot is about two sizes (US) larger than my right foot. That's about a 9 and a 7. Now, I have three options:

1. Buy two pairs of the same shoe (Mix n' Match)
2. Buy one pair, but swap them out in the boxes (Stealing? Kind of....)
3. Wear hi-tops (so the right foot doesn't slip out of the larger shoe, but the extra room is.... difficult)

As of recent, I've been praciticing with your standard Converse All-Stars, but they lack in.... just about every field with the exception of weight.

I also had an operation on the right foot a few years ago, and it now lacks a full 360 degree rotation. Up and down? Yes. Left and right? Not so much.

I need a shoe that can help me out with my situation. Any suggestions?

As I'm new to the sport myself so I wouldn't know, I think the biggest concern might be the price. It might be possible that the store will help you out with the size different.

My question is concerning price. Is there anything out there that is decent for under $40-50?

It's very important to learn how to roll in every direction to be able to avoid injury in the case of an unexpected fall. Here's the article I wrote on it:

Establishing a Foundation- The Roll

Is this article still up?

June 07 - Continued
Ended up running about downtown getting comfortable with simple and lazy vaults. A few attempts to kong ended up botched due to hesitation.  :-X And then some barefoot running when I got home. So much for taking it easy.

June 08
Really going to take it easy today. Hopefully.

Haven't been to NC state in a while, but from what I remember there are a few good places. Then again, downtown in general does. :)

The second one is a bit dark but I like it, just because life hasn't been that great to me lately.

Thats great news guys! I don't live in Austin right now actually. I've been gone for about a year [but I'll be back this coming fall] due to a huge combination of proverbial shit [personal and familial] hitting the fan.

As I'm fresh to Parkour, my knowledge of others is relatively small. But back to when I boxed, I always enjoyed having a rival [in which I hope to find one in parkour as well], because it made me look up to them in the abilities they were better at but also gave me motivation to get better.

Specifically, there was a short guy named John who came to the gym and occassionally helped out but I've never seen someone move as swift and graceful inside the ring as he did.

Cutting wood is wonderful for building back muscules and well-known technique for boxers to increase power. I used to do about 30 side swings [with each arm] and finish with 50 overhead swings with a small sledgehammer and an old tire at my old boxing gym.

June 06

Repeatition of June 5th, except I did two sets of the The Chair Wall and a light jog later that night.

Did drops from a cat on a ledge to work on landings, I think I've gotten pretty comfortable with it.
Still working on getting comfortable on doing the roll, so far work only a kneeling and standing rolls on carpet and grass. [Trying to get accustomed to rolling on both shoulders].

June 07
Despite the The Chair Wall and Simple Plan I did yesterday, my upper body felt fine this morning. I suppose I still have some leftover conditioning from boxing. Legs suffering though, stiff and sore.

Went light today. Only one set of a Chair Wall. Trying to shift to an earlier morning workout as summer is starting to get into fullswing and friends are coming home.

Cool, I like the idea of working out with a chair. I'm guessing explosive pushups is wear you actually push yourself into the air?

Yep!  :) Glad to help. If you have any recommendations, be sure to let me know!
