Colorado / Need a place to crash in Denver for 2

Me and a friend are traveling to Colorado to start things fresh and are just hoofing it with a backpack apiece, we don't care if its just a bit of floor space :) we'd just need that is all, we have enough for food and necessities.

the time frame for the stay would be up to the host but we're moving there on the 17th Feb, 2015.
we're gonna be training at Apex and working all day so there'd be little inconvenience.
willing to do anything to make it work out. 
if nobody's able or willing, then it'd be great if you'd point out some good places to stay during the night and not be particularly exposed to the elements.

the way im doing it is increasing height when I can take the previous drop with a 10 pound weight vest easily and not feel any discomfort from the drop. that just tells me when I should progress to the next increment. Ive been hard pressed to find a good progression of height so the usual thing you can find to progress on is a staircase, not always ideal but it trains your rolls good too.

ok but I just say based on experience. you can have really good landing with weight as with without, all that determines that is repetition. And I would consider the depth jump a beginner Exercise, with weight a little higher. you forget, your body is weight. plus trying to just "jump higher" isn't that accurate way to measure progress and control your sessions. but with weight its much easier to tell where you lie. and yea, I meant the weight vest. and we train small then progress in order to adapt our body, depth jumps don't destroy your knees or back ( unless your over weight ). but if you think you have a better exercise that is more "beginner" please stop critiquing my advice and present the guy with some of your own advice.

I think what Stephan is trying to say is that many people who do not actually practice parkour or any for of movement, is trying to get rich with parkour... It's exactly what happened in skateboarding... I've been skateboarding for about 10 years and I've met thousands of skateboarders along the way. What I found out is that 95% of those skateboarders have nothing in common with me... They were skateboarding to look cool, to impress girls, for their style and they watched Street league and stuff.... Some companies who had nothing to do with skateboarding decided to JUDGE skateboarding, make rules in skateboarding and determin who is good and who is not... and this is wrong... I completely understand 7Erik7 and his way of thinking.
Is someone who can jump farther, climb higher and run faster better traucer than someone who is really motivated, doesn't spoil parkour/freerunnig works hard, grows both mentally and physically but can't runs as fast or jump as high....

To get back to the point. Corporations are trying to make money out of parkour... red bull literally SOLD term freerunning and parkour and made money out of something... there were people who were dying to make parkour what it is but corporations are changing that and destroying it... making it commercialized and profiteable... trying to make traucers like rockstars...

I don't think that the people that ruin it are ever more talented then the truly motivated people, the truly dedicated people.

I agree with 7Erik7 but need to add one thing. mentality. you can do 500 push ups and hill sprints all day.. but so does a lot of other athletes, to actually be a traceur is to know why your training, to be and to last yes, strong to be useful yes, drill kongs all day to make a good video on youtube NO. sure there can be different opinions and thoughts but if those two essential core values are missing then your not doing parkour.

I wasn't saying add weight immediately. I thought the rest was obvious enough though, I mean, the first thing is to drill the basics, that includes landings. plus, your body can adapt to the impact, thereafter its detrimental to not keep forcing the body to adapt.

Just to add to the list of ways to improve your vertical. the depth jump is very good. get two objects relatively the same height and stand on one, jump down, then immediately jump up to the other one. the height should be at least to your hip. you can add weights, ive never felt the need to,.. but I cant touch rim.. yet ;) .

As for the kong, the way I got rid of the fear was simple doing it onto my bed lol. after that, bring it outside and just drill and drill the pop and try to get the distance / power down.

No I haven't read that article, but by its very title it seems arrogant or at least ignorant. parkour is both of them, pure and fun. Mentality is everything, its the difference between being goofy and dedicated. people who train for fun.. are just simple playing, nothing wrong with that but it still needs to be noted that there in it only for the joy of movement not for the deeper, much richer philosophy. I don't see how you compare mentality to a "thinly veiled attempt to seem better then people," if you do parkour.. you do it for you and through you your community. As David has said he didn't create parkour but gives due credit to his father, who was a warrior at an age where most were still throwing tantrums. through him the mentality passed to david and that mentality is the foundation of parkour, without it, the entire thing crumbles to a mess of what it is today. not to say its inherently "bad" but its VERY different from what it was, and to me, what it still is.

you say that most people don't gave the same motive as David, your right, most don't and cant even comprehend his mentality. sure they can have different motivations and think differently, but if those said people don't have the foundation of the basic mentality then they are simple playing. they are most defiantly NOT training, they are playing.. they are enjoying themselves.

this comment might sound harsh.. but as they say: whatever floats your boat.

 parkour has not been around since the beginning of mankind, movement and exploration of movement but not parkour. David belle made parkour a very strict yet yielding discipline. where, be strong to be useful and to be and to last are the main themes. this he developed off his father from his military days, hence there's an obvious warrior spirit that's integral to parkour that was only really understood by the founders. Make no mistake, without this warrior spirit a person cannot say they do parkour and from my experience almost all of the "parkour" community simply dose not train parkour. sure they can say they do but what they do now compared to the founders couldn't be further apart. Can anyone here actually picture a warrior spirit consisting of tricks and flips ? I don't think so, sure the founders did them but specifically David stated that flips are not parkour, and they never will be. And no, parkour is not the art of motion, that's closer to what sebastion came up with. parkour is a discipline meant to better yourself in order to last, to take care of your community. the article "The Split" is finally a bold statement to all those pretenders that go by a name they did not create in order to make a better life for THEMSELVES. Redbull dose not in any way help people and anyone that associates themselves with either parkour or freerunning that supports redbull or any harmful institution cannot say they in any way do parkour or freerunning. ryan doyle is a athlete... no more and possible less since he still calls himself a freerunner and broadcasts that toxic of a drink.

Whatever floats your boat people, but I find that most people that get upset or offended by a post such as "The Split" are resisting the fact that they are not doing parkour, they don't like it, they get upset, they throw a tantrum.

im so tired of people jumping and doing a kong ect and saying parkour and as Stephane says,

                                                                " It's not about the damn Jump!"

I live in Yorktown, just north of Virginia beach. Theres not a lot of people where I am...well none actually. but I know a lot of people that train where you live, theres even a gym that costs only 15 bucks for 8pm till midnight, the best deal ive EVER seen.

You REALLY need to start eating right, working out does nothing without the proper diet. my advice for what to eat, keep up eating the fruits, eat more vegetables. CUT ALL : Sugar, Alcohol, Preservatives for a start. Also, drink only water. As for working out, you can really forget about weight lifting intill later, your best bet is all bodyweight training. a good example would be to look at Insanity for help ( you don't have to buy it, just see the type of exercises, HIIT ). A good goal plan would be to set physical challenges for yourself, like a muscle up, 100 consecutive push ups, one legged pistol squat, ect.
Really good sources of Info would be to Youtube Elliott Hulse, hes a strength coach that's also a lot of other things :) you'll see lol
if you really wanted to, you can just do all the WOD at this site, there pretty affective. but as I said, diet is THEE most important  ;D

I get what you mean Vandal, the trick to overcome the inevitable parkour boredom disease is to HAVE FUN!!! kinda obvious to most but I get this "PBD" all the time haha, mainly since I train alone and my area sucks (I still try my best to make the most of it though ;D ) and after a point you just need to stop drilling basics, stop doing endless precisions and jumps and start having fun with your training again. its good that you have friends that practice with you for it'll make this all the more easier. play a game of parkour tag using all your skills and try and get to a point in the game where you're in the elusive "flow" state, where no obstacle matters. set up a good follow the leader course, set up a game of capture the flag which in the end just turns to a game of tag but with everyone chasing you ;D .the possibilities are endless, and once you've had your fill of fun, start training again. after the funs over the nitty gritty needs to take precedence again. it really is a never ending cycle but I hope this helps :D

You've been doing this for 2 years?? I would say work more on your foundation, drill the simple stuff, one day those all too "simple" moves will save your life, or someone elses. the roll, the climb up (many people cant even do these "good enough" ), wall run (try looking at demon drills 4th (or 5th i think nowadays) level of the wall run (fricken awsome ;D ), and work more on conditioning, too many people get into tricking without prepping their bodies first.

Injuries - Discussion / Weird Pinkie Toe Injury

About a month ago, I was practicing flips in an open gym. Mainly in the foam pits and occasionally on the tumbling trampoline which ends with a foam pit/pad. Normally I'd have no problems... But, I hurt my toes on my left foot. Later, about 2 weeks, Almost all the pain was gone, all but for my pinkie toe  :( In all honesty i know i should have stopped wayyy earlier than i did, but i can tolerate pain so i pushed through... which lead to mystery toe pain. I'm not sure i twiked it (i think if that was the case then it would've healed by now) or if i ripped the toes muscle (not sure if possible) or broke the toe (probably would hurt more though). so with that in mind, heres the full story.... After i felt some pain, i kept on, intill i was just about to go into a italian job (rail flow thingy) when i just felt my pinkie toe just (its really hard to describe) kinda rip / tear / popish (probably the 1st two) i didnt even get to do my flow thing :( haha because i was in extreme pain. i just crumpled and lay with a cold water bottle for like 20 minutes on my toe trying to do my megger attempt at 1st aid :P after that i stumbled around and tried to put some preasure on it but it hurt like hell. 1st, i have not felt the reverse pop / rip that i would think would indicate it going back into joint (just in case it popped out) 2nd, its gotten better but its been a month :(  3rd, precisions, wall runs (with my left foot) still hurt, ect. 4th, I really want to get back into hard training.
PLEASE people I need some info on this, WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY TOE!!!!!!

go on bing and look up, "how to not give a f#ck" (if thats "offensive" to APK then just take my comment off  :-Sarcasm ) but this will help people understand that most people in your life dont care about you and only notice you when your blantantly right in front of them doing "abnormal" things. most often these people will have a HIGHLY biased opinion of you and thats either bad or good. if its bad and they keep walking, who cares? but if they bring it on to you, just be positive and explain to them (if they are at least a little understanding) what you are doing (summerize it ALOT and also say that you're not breaking any laws. but in most cases the people that are making you so nervous are just curious. the same goes here, if they come to you, explain, if not then just keep training and they even might stop and watch for a bit, then depending on their mood, they go on or talk to you. really, just dont give a F and train. but if they come to you then make a GOOD impression so that they wont call the cops or threaten to call your mom or something equally ridiculous. and please dont be one of those people that says i dont give a F what you say, because everyone hates those people and they make the public even more biased for the entire community. and if they insist that you leave then just leave, then you have two options: 1st, you can come back once you creeped and made sure that they walked on, or you could just go to a different spot. also, all of this changes if you ARE breaking the law somehow. in summary, use some curtesy nd some common sense. peace
