Kind of a late reply, but try to push your momentum more up instead of throwing yourself forward. The forward momentum plus lack of height are making it hard for you to land straight on your feet. When you go focus on jumping straight up into the flip.

Thank you Mich, for the pointers.

But I'd like to point out that I do train my legs, I'm quite strong actually. There is only one drop in their that looked like a bit of a bad landing and I do agree I didn't take that one very well. I never take drops outside of videos, so my joints are pretty healthy. There are no cat passes in that video. My monkey vaults are all straight on, maybe it looks weird because of the angle. I will definitely keep it up though!

Like Dick mentioned, the best thing you can probably do if you don't have a soft place to practice is get some object like a table or person bent over and roll over it on your back. This is basically the side flip motion as long as your rolling across your middle/upper back. Do that and try to jump more into it each time while putting less weight on the object. When you feel confident with that, try it without it

I've always had similar thoughts OP. Although there may be very few situations where it applies, flips can really be helpful jumping over certain things. Also my friends always think it's weird how I'll often flip/twist out of a bail and land perfectly. I practice flips purely out of enjoyment however I certainly see the benefit in parkour as well.

However I think only the front flip and side flip are worth learning for safety and efficiency as well as air awareness which would be apart of safety... back flips really are pointless and unnecessary...

Eh, I can think of situations where a backward flipping motion could be useful. Feet slip out, falling backward off something, etc. Besides, any flipping movement is going to be helpful to your in air awareness and will help with other movements as well. It's unlikely if trying to save yourself that you are going to do EXACTLY a certain type of flip. You are just going to need to twist your body in some way to land safely and knowing how to twist and move your body in all kinds of different ways will be the most beneficial.

Like Kyle said, keep your torso up a little more, that'll keep you from throwing yourself into it so much like Ryan said. By "heel drive" your coach means what Jabari is saying about kicking that back leg (the non-jumping one) up more, I think Epic1 has a "push and lift" tutorial that covers this concept well. Also throw your arms into it more, they're kind of just chilling there. Another thing, tuck more. You'll spin much faster. In short: keep your chest up a little longer. As you push off, kick back hard with the back leg while pushing hard with the front, and throw your arms down to grab yourself as you tuck your legs in

It's not bad actually, you have the technique down. From there all I can say is maybe try throwing harder/tucking tighter. It seems like an obvious thing but its easy to overlook. Other than that it may just take more practice or maybe a faster run into it.

Just have to trust in yourself that you know what you're doing and get pumped and do it. If that's too big of a step, break it down further. Maybe try doing them off the ground onto your bed. Yeah you probably can't land that but it'll give you the feeling of doing it off ground. Keep practicing them on your bed till you have it down completely comfortable. Be creative and come up with some other ways to progress into it.

Oh god I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not.....it doesn't look at all hard to do flips on a trampoline! Those things give you waaaay too much air xD

Besides, that's just kids being kids. What kid doesn't want to backflip on their trampoline?

Agreed haha I can do everything they did in the video except the triple back and I've never landed on my head once? Yeah, it's just a matter of being smarter about what you do haha. Not bagging on the kids, they can do whatever they want. Just saying they are risky.
