Michigan / Open Gym?

So winter is fast approaching, and I'll be doing some serious conditioning during this time, but I would love to, once a week or so, go to a gym to work on tricking and freerunning. What are some good gyms in either Ann Arbor or Lansing that have open gyms? I'm guessing they cost money, but it'd be awesome if they didn't.

Movement / Precision Landing (Slipping forward)

So I searched precisions and found countless articles, but none covered my question specifically. I would have posted in one, but the most recent one was 2 years go, figured I might as well not bug people by bringing it back from the dead!

I've gone to parks/playgrounds before to practice and they are filled with wooden benches and such. I'm afraid to try to precision onto them because it seems like every time I do, my feet slide forward an inch or two, which freaks me out and almost makes me lose control of my balance. Usually this happens on decently lengthy precisions (where I am forced to have a less than desirable angle coming onto the landing). Is there any way I can stop this slipping besides better shoes? (I will be buying some better shoes eventually, but I can't at the moment)

So my english teacher really likes interviews for papers. I'm now doing one on the Leave No Trace initiative and would again ask anyone with a good amount of knowledge on this to be willing to go through a questionaire for me. I would really appreciate it guys! Not sure where else to find someone to interview :/

Injuries - Discussion / Back soreness relief stretches/exercises

So my back is extremely sore due to an incorrect landing that I felt a sudden shock in my back when I landed. After that it only hurt a bit when I practiced but I ignored it (problem). A few days later of more training, my back is really really sore. Sore to the point it hurts to walk. What stretches or exercises can I do to help it heal and be back to normal relatively quickly as opposed to just sitting around?

Hey guys,

My english writing class is asking for a nice lengthy paper on sustainability in life. I chose to focus mine on how someone can benefit from parkour both physically and mentally. One of the requirements is an interview from a professional. I figured I would just put up this thread hoping someone would be interested in being asked a series of question (just via private message) and give me permission to use them in my paper. I would prefer it be someone who has been doing parkour for a while and is incredibly serious about it as their lifestyle. I would GREATLY appreciate it :)

Consumer Whores / What shoes won't kill my budget??

So a problem that I've found makes me hesitate is having terrible shoes that slip on precisions and a lot of wall runs. I want to get a decent pair of shoes that have excellent grip, won't wear down fast, nice and light and flexible (not too much cushioning), and won't cost me and arm and a leg. What's your guys thoughts?

Movement / kip up vs back bend

So I really wanna learn the kip up but I don't really feel like knockin the wind outta me! I can't do a back bend, at least, I think I cant just cuz I've tried before and can't seem to get the strength to raise my head off the ground. Does this mean I can't do a kip up? Or are they unrelated?

Hey guys.

I can NOT get the courage to try a wall flip! I've got a thin mat layed out that i do backflips on, I can aaaalmost do a backflip (land but not quite enough rotation). I've ran up to the tree (in place of a wall, but a wide tree) and practice leaning back and putting a foot on the tree, but i can't get the confidence to lean all the way back, push off, and throw my jumping foot up, i just can't. Any advice for a way to build the courage? or maybe like steps leading up to the wall flip?

Movement / Backflip fail

I've been attempting backflips for a couple months now. I am able to confidently perform the backflip, but I can't seem to get enough rotation to land. I either bail and tuck my left leg under me, or I don't bail and almost face plant. Everytime I fail, I think that I'm not tucking enough, but I try to focus on tucking as much as possible, and it doesn't quite seem to be enough. Any known common mistakes or advice? I'd much appreciate it.

Hi, I live in the middle of no where... I have a picnic table, a front porch, and I made some "I bars" for precision jump practice, but I don't live near a decent city where there are walls to get up, things to cat on, etc. What should I do to learn such moves as cat leaps, wall runs, pulling myself up onto ledges, etc. Any help?
