Diet / A total newb.
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:34:41 PM »
So I've been active to these forums for years now, but have rarely ever ventured outside of the Hawaii and movement sections of the forums.

Just recently I've decided that instead of just working out/training like a boss, I wanted to start eating right as well(that and a little bet that I have).

Problem is, I am totally ignorant.

I've literally spent the last 3 days lurking and taking notes on all the stickies and reading up on past threads in the Diet section to try and get a general idea. Previously I adopted Jujimufus(now non existent) little guide on eating correctly, and that was more of "heads up this is what I do" type thing without any actual guidelines.

So, a little about myself. I'm 5'9" and between 150-160lbs so I would guess that I'm just about the right weight for my height. Then again, I really have no clue.

I am very active, I lift weights nearly everyday, and I train Parkour/Freerunning,Soccer,Tricking,Muay Thai as often as I can. So I'm not some slouch looking to get active in life, I am and have been a very active kid[16]. I'm not really a unhealthy eater, I don't eat fast foods ever but I'm not exactly, strictly a healthy eater if you know what I mean.

I read up on that Paleo Diet and it seems very nice, but I am still very confused.

It stated that you should cut out bread/grains entirely. At first I was like "D: Wtf insanity?" then lurked a bit in the white/wheat bread thread and found it pretty logical. Heres the thing though, I still want to be able to eat things like Kimchee fried rice occasionaly.
So would it be ok if I ate things like that with moderation?

I also keep hearing about this 4:1 grain:protein PWO ratio and i'm kinda curious about that.

TL;DR

I''m looking for some people to point me towards some in depth articles, or enlighten me with knowledge of their own.
:D

In advance, thanks.

Hawaii / Fundraising ideas?
« on: May 02, 2010, 04:11:26 PM »
Recently Ive been trying to find things that we[We being the local Aiea boys and HIPK] can do to make money.

So far we sell homebaked goods and just sell them@school.
Make a good profit of about $30 a week, everyother week.
With summer coming up however, we all plan on getting jobs.

We can however continue the lame bake sale and use the money we get from that to support HIPK.

Thoughts?

Parkour And Freerunning / Parkour =/= Martial Art??
« on: March 13, 2010, 08:27:57 PM »
Well i just got home from borders. There i was doing my usual reading. Martial arts,Military history and psychology. When i saw a book i hadnt seen before. "The Way of the Warrior" with a long subtitle. Anyway i got interested in it and started scimming through it. When i got to the European section of the book, the first thing that came up was Parkour! lol. It had a good discription on what it was, except for the picture of a guy doing a layout -___- I didnt check the year on the book, but im sure it was fairly new!

I can has more parkour books please?

Hawaii Hotspots / Aiea Valley.
« on: March 08, 2010, 11:52:07 PM »
We ventured down into the valley that the Aiea Stream runs through.
and damn we found a wonderfull natural playground

Discription
The decent down is about 15-20 minutes. Fully equipped with rock climbing and other excellent training opportunities.
-We take a different path down/up every time we go. Helps with familiarity of the area and is just fun overall ^_^

At the bottom there is a river. Im not sure if its always a river though because it has been raining a lot lately.
-The river is practically littered with Rocks of varying sizes. With many different distances. Some are slippery though so watch out! This is the most fun with precisions ive ever had

We walked upstream for about 2 miles before we turned around and went home. So we still need to go downstream and even farther up.

I fell in the river. it was only about knee deep at most when we went. Might change depending on rain. Beware lepto ^___-
-We found a 15ft[Area wise] or so section of the river that was almost chest high 0___0 i was thinking"lets take a dive" then thought of crypto, and decided against it

I did everything barefoot and my feet were fine
-Barefoot would be suggested. The terrain isnt littered with anything too bad. Just broken branches. Certain sections have this thorned vine thing. but thats easily avoided.

we did find surprisingly lots of garbage down there. The remnants of an old hobo civilization perhaps? meh. Im probably gonna orgainze a clean up day.

No pics at the moment ): but we will get some soon when we next go. probably this saturday!

Edited: Discription
We went back. This past Friday[March 12th] Except this time we ventured Downstream for a bout a 2 miles. We ran into[under?] the Aiea Over pass. This is officialy my new way to school lol. It was about 45 minutes down.
I took pictures and will have them up momentarily

Edit:My sister spilt water on my camera while i was uploading them. They didnt upload, and now my camera is broken.....
I have another(more crappy) one though. If anything, im gonna make a training session of it and go take some more pictures...

Movement / Kong To Help
« on: February 23, 2010, 08:40:14 PM »
Surely youve all seen a move like this

Kong to Precision
Kong to Cat
etc

My question is specifically for Kong to Precisions.

The First object is about 3~4 1/2 ft High. with about 4 feet in between the second object which is ~3 1/2ft.
I can flawlessly (exaggeration) execute a kong to cat on this object.

Now for the actual Question.
I cant seem to tweak my set up enough to get the proper power/speed to get and keep my legs high enough to stick a precision.
my legs are coming up to short for a precision....So what kind of set up should i utilize in order to get the air to get my legs up to stick the precision?

I know my explanation is sketchy, hopefully i can get a video.
