Disappointing that USA is out, but it's still happening! Anyone like me that can't miss a game, no matter who is playing?

Suggestions - What can we do better???!!! / page scrolling buttons?
« on: February 25, 2010, 11:02:59 AM »
When i first started using the forums, i was confused about how to switch pages within a thread, and still find it slightly weird that i have to click on a specific page # at the bottom to go to that page. I suggest a page scroll button (previous page, next page) to facilitate smoother and easier forum use.

Training Journals / Ryan D.'s Training log
« on: January 26, 2010, 01:33:14 PM »
So I've not gotten the chance before this to actually record what I've done when I train. I started recording my workouts on paper about a week ago, and I thought it would be a good idea to post them here and get some feedback while i'm at it.

I've listed some goals, but I'm sure I can find some more and better ones to work toward in the future:

30 seconds handstand with no hand movement
20 Pull ups
15 Wide Pull ups
Muscle up

I need to work on upper body strength, for climbups and the like, and more QM

Workouts from last week:

15 divebomber push ups
balance training on homemade rail section & balance board

nothing :/

2 hours snowboarding deep powder

7 hrs snowboarding (9-4) moguls etc

4 hrs snowboarding
3X10 divebomber pushups
11 pullups

25.01.10 (yesterday)
2X6 wide pull ups
2 hrs indoor soccer (basically running sprints up and down a basketball court)
3X20 reverse dips
climb up practice ~10 (up and over)

comments are much appreciated.  I think I'm going to start using the weight room after school about every other day with the track team, so i can get something more than just body weight training at home.

Movement / Ease with Kong Vaults
« on: January 18, 2010, 03:48:41 PM »
For some reason I find kong vaults easy. Well not that anything is easy, and I know I have room for miles of improvement, but I never had trouble with the progression. One day I went out and decided to do them. I'm just curious to see if there's anyone else in the same boat.

Socialize / Irony

I laugh at how I go freebording for like half an hour and eat it once, and I have gashes on my hands knee and arm, but I can do parkour for hours and never hurt myself.

New Mexico / Need interview for Senior paper on parkour
« on: January 11, 2010, 08:52:43 PM »
Hopefully I can find someone locally, I need to interview someone as a source for my senior research paper. Closer is better and Los Alamos is pretty far away from ABQ. I can get to abq though no prob or we can do it over the phone, but  if there's anyone out there please let me know.

Parkour And Freerunning / Senior Paper - Parkour!
« on: January 07, 2010, 04:58:04 PM »
So I've decided to write my senior paper on Parkour and the philosophy.  I'm planning on purchasing the "Parkour and Freerunning Handbook" by Dan Edwards. I was going to buy this book anyway but it will help me have some references to cite when writing my paper.  For one of my sources i need to interview someone, and was wondering if anyone out there on the forums could help, preferably one of the senior members, but anyone who has had experience will do.  Does anyone know any articles in magazines that talk about Parkour?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Gorilla PK / big enough to be considered big?
« on: December 28, 2009, 09:44:01 PM »
I'm 180 pounds, but I'm not "big" by any means, I mean I have large shoulders but still.  I'm 6' and well built, so would I be able to consider myself a part of  Gorilla PK?

Parkour And Freerunning / Getting started
« on: December 28, 2009, 06:04:47 PM »
So today was my first time out training, where I actually felt like I was training for Parkour.  I've previously been out and jumped around on stuff, its kinda what I do, but now after conditioning a bit and having a completely different mindset, I set out with a friend and went around town to different places and trained. I surprised myself, with all that I could do, with precisions and broad jumps and the like. I had always been able to do such things but now after conditioning for a while and not being able (or willing) to go outside (there's a lot of snow on the ground) and actually get over/under/through obstacles.

I'm proud, in a way, that i could do many things on the first try with no hesitation and never come close to hurting myself. I also discovered many good places to train in and around my neighborhood, which helps me out a lot.

It was just running through my mind and I felt like it would be good to post it. :D

Edit: I forgot to mention this when I first wrote it, you guys on the forums have been a great help!

Virginia Tech / VT
« on: December 26, 2009, 06:34:48 PM »
Hello, my name's Ryan.  I'm a high school senior who is just starting out practicing Parkour. Virginia Tech is one of the Colleges on my short list, and it has many of the things I am looking for in a college, and I was wondering about what you guys are studying and what I should look for when I visit campus. Also when you train and get together, maybe I could meet some of you when I visit sometime in January.

Parkour And Freerunning / Misconceptions
« on: December 26, 2009, 04:05:34 PM »
Hey guys, I have a question.  I have a friend who thinks he's doing Parkour but all he does is do big drops and thinks he's cool for it.  How do i tell him thats no the way, and that hes gonna hurt himself doing those things? maybe with some enlightenment he'll figure it out and train right.  Any suggestions?
