Socialize / Today is a sad mark on history
« on: April 16, 2007, 12:06:09 PM »
I will always remember today, I was sitting in my kitchen, I had just finished cooking my soup. I was going over reading mental disorders that I just got off of wikipedia and I was on suicide. It was a sad topic, but it was interesting to me. It showed a sense of evolution in a strange way, why would humans willingly take themselves out of the gene pool? Why did they choose to drown themselves over smoothering themselves with plastic bags?

I was tuning into the radio when I heard the announcer say, "this is a sad day, and a mark on history." So I stopped reading and listened as the details of a shooting, worse then columbine and the worst that has ever been committed on American soil, unfolded with obscure information and a death toll of 31 people.

today, for me, was a day filled with sad study and worse reality.

Two thoughts I would like to point out,

-The actual columbine happened APRIL 20TH 1999, as someone who read over the columbine incident intensely I always expect April to be a month of death, and I think that the fact that both incidents happened in the same month cannot be coincidence, there are many reenactments of columbine during April, especially the 20th, why should this be different?

-One shooting happened at one end of the campus and the next one at the other end, this leads me to believe that there were two gunmen, not one, of course this is just a hunch....

(if you have not yet heard or wish to get current information on the shooting

Injuries - Discussion / DOCTORS
« on: April 09, 2007, 05:41:46 PM »
I've just been browsing some of the injury forums and I can't strain this enough

I'm getting scared that people are using the injury forum as there first doctor. Yes if something like, my ankle hurts after I twisted it any suggestions to take away the pain or make it heal better you can post it since its not immediate but remember that we are all traceurs not doctors, sometimes we may be right sometimes we may be wrong and I think that if you have a pain in your knee when you keep it bent or you hurt your wrist really bad and now it hurts when it moves you should be calling a clinic, they can even help you over the phone.

Dont be afraid to call a clinic it doesnt make you a pussy, it just makes you smart.

So, just remember this is a forum where anyone can post anything and I'm guessing none of us went to med school. Your doctor is your best friend, and he should be the first guy you talk to about any problems that are currently bothering you.

Sorry to rant but I just wanted to get that out there

Diet / How to get fuller?
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:50:28 PM »
- Cut food into small pieces so it SEEMS like more. Research shows your eyes want to see (or at least the illusion of) large portion sizes.

- Similar to the above: Use small plates and cups. Research shows If it SEEMS like more food you’re more likely to eat less.

- Eat small meals often through out the day.

- Take a bite, put fork down, chew, sip some water, repeat. Eating slower will make you feel full faster and you’ll eat less.

- Eat foods that include more work to consume (i.e. Edameme Beans, Oranges, Kiwis etc.) The more work you put in to eat your food the more full your body feels.

pretty cool mind tricks huh? Luckily I'm a nice skinny boy so I can go ahead and eat whatever I want...

Mid-Atlantic / Hero Jam
« on: April 04, 2007, 01:35:03 PM »
Whenever I show someone my pk they look at me and say "your spider man"

Everytime I tell them "I'm not spiderman...its different."

but in truth no one gets it.

While in France I saw a gang running around in uniform masks, not literally running around, but uniform masks the same.

That reminded me of the first traceur I ever saw in Reston Town Center.

The begining parkour for me.

So my idea for a pretty good jam would be to go to a popular place like bethesda or silver spring and pk, but wearing super hero masks.

It'd be fun and we could get some good pics and vids

I already got some guys I know signed up (about 3 so far)

Date to be determined, if I can find cheap enough masks I'll pay for em for your super hero I'll pay for it

Injuries - Discussion / Insomnia
« on: March 23, 2007, 09:37:01 PM »
I know this isn't an injury persay buts its getting annoying.

I think I have insomnia, its always hard to sleep and even now at 2 am in the morning I'm finding it hard to hit the pillow. This happends alot, espcially during the weekend (*ahem* no help from adam).

I dont wanna use drugs because of the risk of dependancy and also that I just dont like medication and drugs in my body period, I believe in the natural and I just hate stuff changing my body in general.

You guys got any kind of things to help?

Socialize / Fighting
« on: March 23, 2007, 08:05:19 PM »
I just wanted to discuss fighting and techniques, since there isnt a forum (yet, I put in a suggestion) I just made a thread.

I myself are free form. I know how to fight, and I know street smarts, but I dont have a set style. I took ufc, martial arts (karate and tia kwan doe), boxing, kick boxing and three sets of street fighting (brazilian, vietnamese and american) but I never stuck with a set class. I'm a speed demon, but I do not have much power. I can take alot of hits, sometimes I take more power hits then the other person and still win. To win I usually hit pressure points because of my lack in power. Sadly I do not have a set gym and the place I go to (the jcc) doesnt have shin guards or mats so I cant spar with kicks or throws. Still I have a very mean kick, much better then my punch and I usually spend my time teaching since I havnt found many good opponents, and I cant help but try to improve someone else when they suck. I believe in "tough lessons" so if a student lets their guard down I think that its only right to give them a punch. That way their body relates an open face with pain. Because of the lessons many styles of fighting, I usually stick with strafing and circling instead of the back and forth style.

I've lost my share of spars, but I can proudly say I've never lost a real fight (5 to count). I get very excited for a challenge (you know psy).

My saying is that its not how many punches you deal but how many you can take (thank you rocky)

I would like to find a good gym where I can practice more efficiently and spar with other people that have some sort of skill, so if you know of a good gym PM me.

Suggestions - What can we do better???!!! / Fighting forum
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:45:56 PM »
I think there should be a fighting/sparring forums since many traceurs on the site are interested in fighting and its a big part in relation to parkour. I know this is mainly a parkour site but it wouldnt hurt

Socialize / Music help parkour?
« on: March 23, 2007, 12:42:14 PM »
I usually listen to music when I parkour but one day I guy at my school stopped me and told me that it could distract me. He said it was actually DANGEROUS and that I should stop. Of couse I scoffed, put my headphones on, and kept running.

Still I do think he's right in a way, that music can distract your movements, but its does make me faster and a bit stronger I feel. I think its a trade off, percision for speed and strength. If so, I am definatly up for it.

Plus listening to "paralyzer" while doing a gate vault is just too awesome

Parkour And Freerunning / Bussiness and Pk
« on: March 23, 2007, 12:32:25 PM »
Alot of traceurs have been angry that corps are starting to see Parkour as a bussiness opportunity. I see it as a good thing. Yes many bussiness's dont understand parkour fully and rationally but this is the way to get PK out there! How to you think 5.10 were made. More bussiness means more intrest means more people more bussiness oppotunities for traceurs and better developed equipment.

This is the next step from cult activity to trend dont you think? I myself would like to see parkour bloom into a bigger and better activity.

Socialize / Darcey, A war memior
« on: March 06, 2007, 07:09:50 PM »
This is a war story that I was challanged to write, it came out very good I think, this is the begining when the character Eden Darcey is first introduced I just wanted to get a response from a more general public before I possibly published the whole story, tell me what you think and I'll post the rest

(its set in Vietnam, somewhere near Hanoi)

They were opposites.

He was loud, he was obscene and he never took anything seriously.  He was also late, always late, late to join the army, late to training classes, late to meals, late to wake up and late to war. He came to our unit on a chopper full of ammo singing “war” by Starr.

I remember playing poker with some HQ guys when I first saw him and thinking he had really weird eyes, the kind that look like they have a world of their own in them, they were silver too. He was wearing beige cameo pants and a red top along with an army issue helmet that had to be to big on him. He also had really nice shoes and a Star of David around his neck where the usual cross would be, no dog tag either.

He was lying on ammo crates with his hands behind his head singing “war” by Starr when the chopper landed. He got out and went around the back for fifteen minutes while Lt. Baker and Mark Steven unloaded the crates. Steven opened one and peered inside cursing because there wasn’t any food. When they were done the chopper left and there was the guy from the chopper standing there with a cargo bag and sling backpack.

“Who are you?” Lt. Baker said.

“Eden Darcey, what do you want me to do with my stuff?” he said.

“Eden Darcy...weren’t you the guy we were supposed to have last week?” Baker said, a tone of aggravation in his voice.

“Ya I missed the chopper so they uh…shipped me out on this one.” Eden said, I couldn’t tell if he was embarrassed or just not paying attention.

“Well I don’t know what to do with you we are moving out as soon as we get this cargo packed, your going to have to stay at HQ we never got a heads up about this.” Lt. Baker said and started to walk away

“Ya Capt’in Hal will love it when you send another ‘copper on a bullshit run”

Lt. Baker stopped in his tracks

“You know it wont take me long to check in an' hell I’m already packed, let me just check in this sucker,” Eden said and lifted up his cargo bag, “and then I’ll join you guys in a sec that okay with you?”

“Ya,” Baker said then got in Eden’s face, “and I’m gonna treat you like cargo if you keep comin' in like cargo, never gonna pull that shit again ok cargo?”

Eden moved away from Baker’s face and picked up his bag and started walking towards the office building but then turned around so that he was walking backwards with his bag in one hand and the other up over his eyes. I could see he was smiling.

“Whatever you say boss, you guys gonna hump me all the way to the next rest stop or can I walk myself?”  At this Mark Steven (who had been silently beside the Lieutenant the whole time.) laughed and Baker gave him a dirty stare.

“What?” he said and went on chuckling. Mark always had the maturity of a ten-year-old just learning about puberty; the fact that someone else had made a joke about hump was amusing to him.

Eden then stopped and silently looked at the sky, all you could see was green, green hills, green trees, green grass hell green villages.

“Nice scenery” he said, and then went into HQ.

Parkour And Freerunning / War and Parkour
« on: March 05, 2007, 06:42:00 PM »
I was just watching a war training vid from ww2 in my history class and I saw troops doing and exercise where they would run on walls that where slightly diagnol, of course the first thing I thought was PARKOUR! I then saw vids of them vaulting and such!

Does anyone no more about this? Probably a gymnastic program but the diagnol walls really get me....

Parkour And Freerunning / PK DOG training tips
« on: February 26, 2007, 07:53:06 PM »
I'm getting a dog...well puppy soon and I want to train her so that she can run with me and my group. First we gotta leash train her and then train her to follow us without a leash and I did that with my last dog but as far as keeping up with us or exercise I'm not too sure what to do other then make her run...

I will probably end up with a  yorkshire teacup female...

any ideas as to how to train her to run with us or if you have done this yourself would be greatly appreciated ;D

P.S. Any good names too because I cant think of any good ones... :-\

Parkour And Freerunning / Definition of Parkour
« on: February 26, 2007, 05:36:07 PM »
I just wanted to know what other peoples definition of parkour is because whenver people ask me what it is I find it hard to explain without sounding prophetic, u no the whole vertical pedestrians civilians suck thing....

basicly i sum it up as getting from point a to point b while rationally going over obsticales in as less time as possible

that way it cancels out the idea of flips but keeps the core fundimentals
