Injuries - Discussion / Strained foot tendon
« on: March 16, 2007, 01:25:29 PM »
So last weekend I strained a tendon in my foot.  The pain existed from my outside ankle across my foot to my big toe.  Not quite all the way to the toe, but imagine a rubber band from your big toe to your outside ankle, and you get the idea.  It was only when I pulled on it that it hurt.  Since then I've been able to walk fine, with no pain.  yesterday I did a quick little vault over a bar, and a couple minutes later the pain returned.  So my question is this, what exercises can I focus on my feet first to rehabilitate, and second to strengthen to prevent this injury again?

Thanks for your help!

Parkour And Freerunning / I've lost intrest in everything but Parkour
« on: February 28, 2007, 01:17:23 PM »
Anyone else have this problem?  I can find myself with a lot of down time at work, so I've set up my Google RSS reader to keep me busy with different feeds from sites like digg, fark, lifehacker, make, and various web comics.  But within the last week, I find my self staring at the page and only wanting to think about PK.  I don't care about gadgets and video games anymore, all I think is whether or not there's a new post on or here.

Someone save me!

Socialize / What should I build?
« on: February 26, 2007, 10:40:06 AM »
OK, I recently bought my first house, and for some reason home ownership has turned me into a wood working fiend.  I first built one sawhorse, to use to practice vaults in my back yard.  Then i built a freestanding pull-up bar, for, well, pull ups.

But today I got my new power tools in the mail.  I built the saw horse and pull up bar with a hand saw and a really crappy drill (had to use a screwdriver to drive the screws the second half of the way in).  But now I have a circular saw and a nice drill, and I need something to build.

I love having my sawhorse to practice vaults on, it's not too bog, can be moved around the yard (out of the way and such).  So now I'm thinking that if I'm going to build something, it might as well be PK training related.  So, anyone got any suggestions on something i could build to use as a tool for PK training?  I'm really thinking something that's not going to kill a large portion of grass.  Something that I can hide along the side of the house or something when it's not in use.

Any suggestions?

Parkour And Freerunning / How do you explain Parkour to a gymnastics gym?
« on: January 29, 2007, 06:53:26 AM »
OK, so I may have a local gymnasium that's willing to let me and a group of guys in the Atlanta area reserve the place.  I've talked to the instructor there, and she seemed almost excited about it, but now I've got to talk to the woman who handles the business end of it, and I want to make sure we don't just sound like a bunch of weirdos who just want to come in a screw around.

So, how would you explain Parkour to someone like that?  If she says, "Well, what are you guys, gymnasts?  What are you going to use the room for?" how should I reply?  She knows about gymnastics, but I doubt she's ever heard of PK.  Anyone got any suggestions?

Edit: M2 edited title for clarity.

Website and Forum Troubleshooting / APK RSS feed?

I was wondering if the APK news section had an RSS feed?  I can get away with reading RSS feeds at work.  So do you guys have one?
