Movement / Hanging grip questions
« on: August 13, 2011, 03:51:00 PM »
I have a few questions about hanging grips, when it comes to hand and finger positioning; mainly with a hanging grip coming out of a precision jump, to grab a ledge you couldn't make leading into a muscle up...

I've watched as many clips as I can to study certain aspects of it, and notice that it is best to try to keep hands roughly shoulder width apart, if not a few inches wider depending on how wide your hips are...

Here's the questions: Should the thumb be pressed against the flat of the wall (facing your chest) with the fingers over the ledge, and why (does it improve the grip)?

Should I use my feet to not only provide stability by pushing up and a little bit away from the wall, but also as well as a way of keeping my forearms and knees from jamming into the wall?

Can you recommend good exercises to improve grip strength aside from hanging from ledges

If anyone could also post pictures of hand positioning, it might be helpful for others starting out with these new techniques.

    Thnx.

Socialize / PC freewares
« on: December 26, 2008, 09:06:06 PM »
Here's a list of some great freewares that i've been testing out from a pc hacking mag that'll remain nameless.

7-zip (like Winzip but 10x better)
ATITool (NVidea & ATI overclocking app)
CPU Burn-in (test max safe CPU temp to assist with over clocking)
CPU-z (full system specs more than system settings can show)
Cryptainer LE (128 bit encryption software, and can secure your system using 448 bit password encryption on anything from Win 95 to Vista)
Spybot search and destroy (spyware and malware)
Sandboxie (run programs from a secured space that means it can affect files or programs outside it's own sandbox i.e. spyware from popups stay in the sandbox and don't hurt you)

most of these can be found on google.

Parkour And Freerunning / parkour gloves?
« on: December 07, 2008, 10:51:14 PM »
Does anyone know of any particular mountain climbing gloves, or similarly styled gloves that work well for parkour?

I know its best to have good hand and finger strength, but in order to prevent abrasions and excessive sweating from getting in the way, gloves seem to be the best solution.

*edit*  I do know that there are many people that are against using parkour gloves, and i've read all the complaints, but im still keeping hope that there are some good reasons.

The session will be starting on Wednesday at 7pm and will probably go until around 10 or 11pm.  We will be focusing on basic vaults, balance, precisions, cat leaps, and general flow.  If you're planning on going, and are going to arrive after 7 (Or if I'm not there at 7), just call me or someone else that's planning on going so we can delay accordingly.

If you need directions, it's located here:

------------------------------

So, Wednesday sounds like a good day for most people, so I think I'll make this a weekly thing.

The Session will start around 7/7:30ish (Depending on traffic), and will end probably around 10 or 11.

If the weather is iffy or if something comes up, I should post it before 5 on that day.

Expect a video some time soonish showing what goes on at these sessions (I might wait another session or two so I can record without forgetting my tripod).

20, male in Illinois looking to get into parkour.  Read all the FAQ, the tuts, and vocab on the home site, and now i'm jumping on the boards.

Hit me up if you're in the IL area around Aurora, Oswego, Yorkville, Plano, Morris, etc.  I bounce between those cities.
