Suggestions - What can we do better???!!! / The Freerunner Topic
« on: October 13, 2009, 11:22:26 AM »
On the main page of the forum, there should be a "The freerunner" thread introduced so A) People who read the freerunner like me can ask the editors and any featured traceurs/traceuses questions and B) people can get clarification on certain things. I figure you can create a sticky for each issue and then people can create new threads about their thoughts/ideas/opinions on certain stories, and to create a thread on The Freerunner ideas, so instead of loading up one persons inbox with story ideas, the editors can check the thread and pick and choose.

I don't know, seems like it would be efficient.

Suggestions - What can we do better???!!! / Main page article authors
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:38:41 AM »
If I remember correctly, there was an article a while back saying that multiple people are responsible for posting articles on the main page. I believe each article should have an 'author' with contact information so that any problems can be taken care of. My example:
I tried to donate to Naoki for the recent article involving the traceur in London that fell from a tree and broke his back. I clicked the link for donations, and it lead me to a redirect page. I left a comment on the article, but it would be more efficient if I was able to contact the person who originally posted the article and inform them of the mishap, so that person would be able to fix it immediately.

Just some food for thought.

Suggestions - What can we do better???!!! / Forever = until next log in?
« on: August 24, 2009, 04:43:42 PM »
Not sure where the appropriate place to post this is, so I chose here. Mods, move me if you must.

I always log into my home computer onto APK with the "Forever" chosen next to the "Login" button. That way, ever time I click "APK" on my Favorites bar, I'm here and can click straight into my account. Recently, however, I've been having to log in. I'm a traceur. I'm all about efficiency. I can't be bothered by the 5 seconds it takes to log in each time. Seriously, though, just posting to ask why forever is no longer forever. Or only sometimes forever. Thanks admin peoples!

CO Jams / Triple Birthday APEX Jam!
« on: May 26, 2009, 10:11:53 AM »
For those of you who don't know, myself, Noah, and Christian from the Denver Family are all having a birthday party in July. I turn 21 on June 29, Noah turns 20 and Christian turns 16 on July 2nd. So we're throwing a gigantic triple-party at APEX Movement. July 2nd is a Thursday. The typical Thursday at APEX is class from 5-7 and open gym from 7-9. Well, we've rented out APEX from 7:30 until noon the next day, but we are charging everyone $5 at the door to pay for renting the gym, food, and alcohol (I'll be 21! :D). Usual open gym cost is $10, so think of it as a discounted open gym that lasts all night! Here's what you need to know:

Who: EVERYONE!

What: Derik, Noah, and Christian's Birthday Party

Where: APEX Movement 2250 Lawrence St Denver CO 80205

When: Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 7:30PM - Friday, July 3rd, 2009 12:00PM

Why: Because you only turn 21 once. and 20 and 16, I guess. ;) :P

How: With your help! Just bring $5, an ID, and be ready to have some fun!

Don't be afraid to invite some friends as well. As long as everyone pays $5, anyone is invited! There will be an obstacle course, video games, and more! We're posting this now so that everyone can have over a month to plan for it! If you have a Facebook account, you can add either myself (Derik DaSilva), Noah Mittman, or Christian Greene as a friend and then click the Events application. Also, anyone 21+ is invited to go bar hopping with me around LoDo!

Hope to see you all there!

Parkour And Freerunning / 72 hours without a pop... literally.
« on: January 22, 2009, 10:21:37 PM »
We all know popping your neck, back, fingers, toes, etc. is bad for you, unless done by a professional. But we all do it regardless. For the next 72 hours, I'm going to try to not pop anything intentionally. Sometimes my joints will pop of their own accord, and if that is the case, I like to think that it's the body fixing itself. But forcing my fingers, toes, etc. to 'pop' is bad for me. So for the next 72 hours I'm going to use every ounce of will I possess in order to not pop. If I make it, I'm going to reqard myself with a visit to the chiropractor. :) Wish me luck!

Diet / Beverage Alternatives
« on: January 11, 2009, 10:03:46 PM »
I live to drink. I consume liquids all day long. problem is, i'm getting sick of water. I rarely drink sodas, but lately I've been drinking more and more. What kind of beverage can I make at home that tastes good and isn't too bad for you? obviously I can't live off kool-aid, I jsut want some variety in my life so I don't get bored of drinking the same ol' thing. Any suggestions?

Parkour And Freerunning / What the words under your stars mean...
« on: January 11, 2009, 09:02:39 PM »
I searched the forums, and couldn't find any definition as to what oryctolagus cuniculus, guenons, patas, mangabey, and mandrill are. So I found them for you! If you didn't know: oryctolagus cuniculus, guenons, patas, mangabey, and mandrill are the names listed under everyone's stars. Enjoy!

1-Star: Oryctolagus Cuniculus (0-49 posts)
Also known as: The European Rabbit. Native to Southwest Europe, the Oryctolagus Cuniculus is considered 'Near-Threatened' in Portugal and 'Vulnerable' in Spain. The decline in it's native range has also caused a decline in the population of it's natural predators: the Iberian Lynx and the Spanish Imperial Eagle. [Source cited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_rabbit]

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Lagomorpha
Family: Leporidae
Genus: Oryctolagus
Species: Oryctolagus Cuniculus

2-Stars: Guenons (50-99 posts)
"Guenons" actually refers to a collection of primates known under the genus of cercopithecus. Although, there are primates within the genus that do not have guenon in their name; there are also primates outside of said genus that do have guenon in their name. All members of the genus are unique to Sub-Saharan Africa, and tend to dwell in forests. [Source cited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guenon]

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Cercopithecidae
Genus: Cercopithecus
Species: <Various>

3-Stars: Patas (100-249 posts)
The Patas monkey is a ground-dweller and is spread out through most of Western Africa and part of Eastern Africa. The Patas actually live on the savanna and avoid dense woodlands. The Patas monkey is also the fastest primate, reaching top speeds of 55 kilometers epr hour (approximately 34 miles per hour). [Source cited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patas]

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Cercopithecidae
Genus: Erythrocebus
Species: Erythocebus Patas

4-Stars: Mangabey (250-499 posts)
The Mangabeys are the most rare and endangered monkies on Earth. They are found in Africa, and are larger than the Guenons (See 2-Stars: Guenons, above). One interesting fact about Mangabeys: their tails are always longer then their bodies in order to provide balance while climbing. The two seperate Genera are due to physical characteristics: The Cercocebus have white eyelids and are nicknamed: 'four-eyed monkey', while the Lophocebus are crested, that is, they have kind of a tuft on their bodies. [Source cited: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-mangabey.html]

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Cercopithecidae
Genus: Cercocebus AND Lophocebus
Species: <9 different species>

5-Stars: Mandrill (500+ posts)
The world's largest species of monkey: the Mandrill, literally means "man-ape". It is recognized by it's olive-colored fur and colorful face. The Drill, though closely related to the Mandrill, does not have this colorful face. The Mandrill can be found in tropical rainforests in Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, and Congo. [Source cited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandrill]

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Family: Cercopithecidae
Genus: Mandrillus
Species: Mandrillus Sphinx

Wow. That took longer than I thought. Though I've heard wikipedia can be unreliable, I used it for most of my research because most of it sounded right. If anyone wants to make corrections, please PM me.

Now, whether or not the admins knew this info before picking it as the rankings, I'll never know. But it really makes you think... :P Hope you enjoyed this little tidbit of information.

Socialize / Tattoos
« on: January 09, 2009, 01:05:28 PM »
Loki gave me an awesome idea for a thread. He posted a picture of an awesome tattoo and I thought to myself, "I wonder what kind of tattoos traceurs/traceuses have"? Thus this thread is born. I want people to post pictures of their tattoos.... I'd post mine, but I'm kind of internet retarded and don't know how to post pictures directly.... so let me see yours!! :P

Parkour And Freerunning / Parkour Speech
« on: November 03, 2008, 04:13:07 PM »
Hey all, I'm a freshman in college and currently taking a public speech class. We get to choose our topics and everything and right now I'm doing a tribute speech to parkour. (My persuasive speech will be parkour-related, as well :P) I'm posting this to get testimonials for my speech. All you have to do is tell me your full name, where you live, and one or two sentences on what parkour has done for you. I will try to get video footage of said speech, but that may be difficult for me. PM me or post in this thread, and I can't wait to hear from you!

CO Jams / Belmar - Saturday - 11/1/08 - 10AM
« on: August 28, 2008, 08:18:57 PM »
Hey everyone. All and one are invited to this little jam I'm trying to get together. If you don't know, I've talked to the head of security (Keith) and we're allowed to train. His only argument was "Don't scuff up the walls." So, I've invited a few friends to come train with me on Saturday. Now I'm inviting all of you. If you don't know where Belmar is, it is the shopping center off of Wadsworth and Alameda (southeast corner) in Lakewood (Hotspot write up is located here: http://www.coloradoparkour.com/articles_belmar.html ). Hope to see you there!

Any questions or comments, reply here (I'm on everyday) or call/text 720-298-8462.
Can't wait to jam!!.

Injuries - Discussion / Wrist - chronic
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:04:53 PM »
okay, I've had bad wrists for a while, and I've learned that trying to doing dive rolls, climb-ups, and shimmys makes them scream in pain. I'm not sure if it's tendonitis or carpultunel (car-PULL-tun-null) (sp). But I know my wrist is not 100%. I usually stretch it on a daily basis, regardless of jamming or not. Any ideas?

P.S. I'm also a server. >.<
