Washington / Places to hit up? Seattle
« on: October 04, 2009, 04:12:53 PM »
I'm gonna be in Seattle on the 17th - 19th. What are the best places to jam?

Preferably near 1st Ave/Wall St/Battery St area as that's where I'll be spending most of my time.

Diet / Questions about performanemenu recipes
« on: June 08, 2009, 06:09:12 PM »
I saw in another thread, don't remember which one, a link to the free recipes on the performancemenu website. Due to many things, especially wanting to get healthy and back into parkour, I decided that redesigning my diet would be one of the most important steps I could take. I basically need to eat more food, and that food needs to be healthy.

The questions I have, as I set up a bi weekly menu, are:

At the bottom of most of the recipes it says things like "4 servings," does this mean that it could theoretically feed four people?

also at the end of the recipes it says things like "4 protein blocks, 3.5 fat blocks" etc. What does it mean by blocks? and how does this figure into the general rule of 30/40/30?

Obviously once I start to change my diet I'll be making alterations to how much and what I eat.

Training Journals / Steve's Training Log (Pave_the_Planet)
« on: February 26, 2009, 03:51:34 PM »
Today was an off day for me. I woke up pretty late, and met my dad for lunch. I had a huge salad and a pizza. Wasn't exactly the best way to start a workout day off, but I don't spend much time with my dad. Also, I was a little apprehensive of doing any workouts today at all due to my wrist being in a lot of pain last night. It felt significantly better today though. I was also feeling very unmotivated to do anything today, not sure if this was from the pizza I ate earlier or because of stress from school. Anyway, here's my schedule for today.

Did some stretching and a fast paced jog through part of my neighborhood. (Note to self: Do not wear jeans again while jogging)

-Started out with 2 sets of 10 weight squats. Been using a 20 pound weight for these. Definitely feeling the burn.
-20 Russian Twist sit ups.
-Two sets of 5 push ups. Been doing the variation with my hands by my hips.
-10 Jump squats
-3 pull ups. This is where I'm facing a lot of annoyance. I've been barely able to pull off 4 whole pull ups on a good day. This may be due to me having to use my door for pull ups until I get set up some rings. <---Hella ghetto.
-36 second frog stance followed by another 24 second frog stance. I've seen drastic improvement in a very short time with this one. Last week I was barely able to get 20 seconds.
-4 "half" Pistol Squats. Not quite able to go all the way down and back up yet, but I've been going down half way on each leg before losing form.
-50 second planks on each side.
-5 Dips
-5 Tuck jumps with silent landings.

Like I said earlier, today felt like an off-day. Normally on workout days I have my workouts planned out, and I'm able to do them all smoothly. But today I was really unmotivated and had to push myself through each set. I'm not sure if this is over training, a simple off-day, or just part of the "curve" of working out.

I may go for another light jog later tonight, as well as work on my rolls.

Had a personal pizza and a huge salad from Round Table today. This isn't a regular occurrence. Also had a few glasses of whole milk (trying to work up to half a gallon a day for the time being). I've also been snacking on various nuts through out the day. I'm about to make a late lunch of marinated Ahi Tuna and rice. Later tonight I'll make a large salad with chicken sausages. I also have a glass of Wheybolic protein shake. It's essentially 60g of whey protein.

Diet / Calorie dense foods
« on: February 25, 2009, 10:46:19 PM »
So I've been doing my best to keep track of what I've been eating for the past few days, and according to fitday I've only been consuming between 1600 and 1900 calories a day. Because I have a fairly high metabolism, and on top of that I've been doing intensive bodyweight workouts every other day, I feel that I need to be getting more calories. Are there any calorie dense foods that are going to be good for me (high protein and carbs)?

Injury Reports / My wrist
« on: February 25, 2009, 08:13:35 PM »
Date of Injury: 2/25/09
Time of injury (0:00 to 23:59): between 1730 and 1800
Your DOB and age: July. 18 years old.
name: Steve
City, State: California
# years practicing Parkour / Freerunning: Less than one
Hours of training per week. (real, not what you'd like to do): right now it's around 5
Other exercise / fitness experience: Took lifetime fitness and weight training last semester
Location where injury occurred: Outside, by my truck
Conditions of location (wet, dark, icy, etc); It was just a chilly afternoon.
What you were doing / trying to do when injury occurred?: Popping the hood of my truck
Where any other people involved?:Not directly
Part of body  - description of injury, rating of severity 1-10:Inside the joint between my right arm and hand. When I am just resting my arm, my wrist feels really stiff. There is minor pain, but it's mostly an annoyance. If I'm holding my arm out straight, and bend my hand upwards while making a fist there is no pain. If I stretch out my fingers while doing this it hurts quite a bit (I'd say 6 or 7. It's bearable, but painful). If I bend my hand down it hurts, with pain being the worst if I have my hand in a fist, or with a fist with my thumb inside it, it is extremely painful. I do not have the full range of motion that I have with my left hand/wrist. While I'm bending my hand down it feels almost as if something is out of place, and there is a faint "grinding" feeling, or like something is slowly moving out of its socket. If I'm in the position of doing a pushup, there is no pain at all.
Did you see a doctor for diagnosis? Not yet. If the pain persists tomorrow, then I will be seeing one.
Did you get X-rays or MRI's? Not yet.
Picture of the injury Not yet.
Could you / how could you have avoided the injury? I have no idea. I had popped the hood of my truck, and while going to open it all the way, I noticed a pain/stiffness in my wrist. It was totally out of the blue, as this was my rest day.
Date / type / severity of your last injury?I don't remember when I was last injured.
Notes on the experience? Because of the lack of pain when I'm in the positions I use for working out, I'm not sure if I should take it easy or not during workouts.

Parkour And Freerunning / Sleep
« on: February 21, 2009, 02:21:42 AM »
Since I've gotten back into parkour (or at least conditioning for it), my sleep schedule has been of some concern to me. I'm naturally somewhat nocturnal. I've always been able to stay up extremely late with ease, and it often takes hours for me to fall asleep if I do decide to go to bed at a decent hour. However, this is screwing me up. I get up really late (often around noon), and even then I'm still tired for after I wake up. This ends up seriously effecting large portions of my day, including school and work (when I have a job). I'm afraid that this will begin to negatively effect my conditioning. Does anyone have any tips on how I can start regulating my sleep schedule? I know there isn't a magic, fix-all for this, but any input on this would be wonderful.

FAQ / Fiveten Freerunner v Ariake
« on: February 08, 2009, 11:10:52 PM »
Ok so, I own a pair of Freerunners V2 by Fiveten. I haven't used them much since I got them right before winter really took off, and the rain and cold has kept me inside. But now that it's warming up, I'm slowly getting back out. I've noticed that the rubber on my shoes is pretty slippery (they have mystique). I'm not sure if they will eventually break in, or if I may have gotten a "defective" pair.I've noticed in a lot of APK videos the demonstrators are wearing ariakes. They also look pretty sexy.

Does anyone have any experience with both? Should I buy a pair of Ariakes once I get enough money? Am I trying too hard to rely on my shoes? Is it normal for my old pair of cons to have more friction than my Fivetens? :(

Injuries - Discussion / my knee is killing me
« on: April 08, 2008, 09:12:10 PM »
hey im pretty new to this site, and parkour for that matter. just recently have i really gotten into and started excrising and running and all that. anyways,  early today i was doing some squants and my left knee would hurt quite a bit when i bent it. i have a reasonably high pain tolerance so i didnt think much of it. but after doing some sprinting, i would sit down and bending my knee would become extremely painful, and would make a loud clicking sound. it got worse as the night went on. at this moment if i  crouch down the pain is nearly unbearable. im really worried that this will have a negative effect on me progressing with parkour.

the pain is around my kneecap, towards my feet, and it feels like the worst of the pain is under the actual cap.

any ideas one what might be causing this or any tips would be very helpful. thanks
