Americans Abroad / Panama
« on: May 08, 2007, 12:07:15 AM »
We were in Panama recently, and although we did a few things there, the thing we thought would be the coolest we weren't able to try.  Go to the canal, and leap onto a tanker as it moves through the canal, and PK from front to back, and then leap off the back at the same place you jumped on.  So you would be racing to stay even with the gangway gap in the fence as you Pk your way from the front of the ship to the back.  That would be a cool video, and the few ships we watched go through had some great PK possibilities.

Age 30+ / I've got it bad...The Geezer workout routine.
« on: April 29, 2007, 02:04:42 PM »

A little history.  I am a filmmaker, and used to be a stunt man/stunt coordinator when I was younger.  (see:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_re_OG6GUT0  ). I used to do parkour type stuff back before it had a name.  I'd always love to see anyone clear a wall or an obstacle in an incredibly atheletic fashion
(This was my favorite part of an old ducumentary film that i found back in the 70's :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7ZX5I2sSwU  )  When I saw my first David Belle video I was 46, and had been sitting on my butt editing a feature film (www.sirenthemovie.com) for the last 6 months.  I was incrediby stoked, and instantly went out and started jumping over things as though I was still young.  Shinsplints......for the next 4 months.  Progress was very slow.  I had to do a lot of calf and ankle exercises to just get so I could run again for any length of time.  I remember how thrilled I was the first time I could jog around my 2 acres without pain.  Since then I've been gradually working up to being able to do some simple vaults etc.  I do several sets of frogleaps daily (standing broad jump, landing in a squat, and jumping again from there - 2 laps across my lawn, catch my breath, and go again).
i also do what I call monkey walks across the lawn, which is just bounding like a chimp on all fours across the lawn.  Great exercise for building the abs and wrists for kong vaults.  I also  I bought some plasic traffic barriers, the kind you fill with water, about 40 inches high, to practice vaults over.  I also put some padding on the side of a metal storage container to practice wall runs.
I do lots of pullups, and leg lifts and ab work while I watching television, and I've been making some good progress.  I kong vaulted a short picnic table at work the other day, and all my co-workers looked at me like I was Spiderman.  However...I may have agrevated an old hernia injury this Friday doing a wall run...dangit!  I'm having it checked out tomorrow.  It may be back to the drawing board, but I'm not giving up.

I'm 48 now for another month or so, and I still walk around looking at architecture with a freerunner's eye.  My son is 17, and training hard, and I can't wait to get together with some of the guys on this forum and do some killer PK/freerunning videos.  I'm hoping I have something in the works now.  If anyone is interested in any of my past work, check out filmmaker58 on youtube, or my website at www.kerbybrothers.com

I think this was done by the Urban Freeflow group.  At first I thought it was Skynative.  Anyone know?  http://www.kswiss.com/  click on the parkour ad

Pics & Vids / Making of on B13 DVD
« on: September 08, 2006, 02:22:33 AM »
There is a pretty good "making of" segment in the special features of the B13 DVD released in US on Tuesday.  Shows some PK and a lot of sick fight choreography, as well as interviews with David Belle and Cyril Rafaelli.  The French version I got a few months ago didn't have this feature.

Pics & Vids / Tribe turorial DVD
« on: September 07, 2006, 04:56:59 PM »
I'm probably preaching to the chior here, but I'd like to comment on how good the Tribe tutoial DVD is.  Good job Mike, and the whole gang.  There are a lot of new people discovering this stuff, and that DVD can help them a lot.

P.S.  Skynative's leaping skills are sick.

Pics & Vids / Pre-historic parkour
« on: August 23, 2006, 08:14:07 PM »
I found some archive footage from the 30's or 40's of some pretty wild free-running back before running shoes.  Pretty impressive.  I wonder what ever happened to these guys.

In the Media / Free Runners in Cirque show
« on: June 23, 2006, 09:43:39 AM »
Last night I saw "Love", Cirque De Soleil's tribute to the Beatles in Las Vegas.  There were several performers credited as "Free Runners" in the show.  There was a rooftop set and they did some pretty impressive stuff.  I got the feeling that they were trained acrobats that have adapted, instead of actual free runners from the streets, but it was still fun to watch.

In the Media / Yamakacu (The Great Challenge)
« on: June 12, 2006, 02:32:31 PM »
I just got Yamakacu in the mail.  It's a new movie with the Yamakasi group.  I found it on ebay.  Here's the incredibly long url:
  http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&from=R10&satitle=Les+Fils+du+Vent&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&bs=Search&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=89048&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=

I've only watched the first part, but there's some awesome stuff in it.  Anyone know the history of this film?

In the Media / Jump London
« on: June 11, 2006, 08:23:52 PM »
Anyone know where I can get a DVD copy of Jump London?  I don't care if it's PAL or not. Tried Amazon UK etc, and can't find it anywhere.  You would think that BBC Channel 4 would re-release it with the growing popularity of Pk.

In the Media / Yamakasi
« on: May 23, 2006, 09:08:58 PM »
I just got Yamakasi (www.imdb.com/title/tt0267129/)  (found it on ebay)  It's got some pretty good stuff in it, although it is not subtitled, and I don't parle francais.  I think that these guys were disciples of David Belle, but I'm not sure.  Anyone else have any info?

Parkour And Freerunning / Why so down on flipping?
« on: May 23, 2006, 05:41:09 PM »
I don't agree with the opinion that flipping is not a part of Parkour.  I thought Parkour was all about "finding your own way" in movement.  Granted, when I try to do flips it's a hospital stay in the making, but when you see Skynative, or Bam from the UFF team do it it's poetry in motion.

In the Media / Sabastian Foucan in Casino royale
« on: May 21, 2006, 01:30:46 PM »
It might be old news, but you can now see Sabastian Foucan in the trailor for Casino Royale doing some wicked jumps.  http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/casinoroyale/.  Parkour is going to get a major boost when this movie comes out in november, and It will be good if some of our American talent is well organized to take advantage of commercial and film opportunities.
