Hello fellow freerunners of Louisiana.  I know you guys are out there, just not as active on this website as before.  I'm wanting to make a documentary film comparing freerunning and skateboarding from the point of view of freerunners and skaters around Louisiana!

I'm virtually the only freerunner around where I live (Morgan City, LA), so I will need to travel to other cities to interview more freerunners.  If you are one, or know of any in your area, please let me know, and I'll see if I can interview you.

ALSO a big deal is that I also need money for travel, and more film equipment in order to make the documentary turn out as professional as possible.  So I made a kickstarter page! Please consider backing my project, or if anything just spread the word!

Thank you guys,

Hello, I'm wanting to create a documentary film that will compare freerunning with skateboarding, from the point of view of freerunners and skaters from around the state of Louisiana!

On these forums before, I've seen some topics arguing "Freerunning vs Skating," but I don't think one should be argued as better than the other. I'm a freerunner, but I often train alongside skateboarders, and I've noticed that a lot of things are similar, like the self expression, the goal of mastering one's self, and also the free feeling that comes with each movement. I think this would be a good topic to address in a documentary film.

What I need is money to travel to different cities around Louisiana, because I hope to interview skaters and freerunners from around the state. I also need a bit more filming equipment to make sure the film turns out looking as professional as possible.

Please check out my kickstarter page, and consider backing it! If nothing else, please spread the word about this project! Thank you guys so much!

Parkour / Problems Konging Long-distance
« on: February 05, 2012, 07:57:17 PM »
Kong vaults always used to scare the crap out of me because I was afraid of faceplanting.  But I just went for it a few weeks ago and can now kong across a picnic table the short way pretty well. It feels really smooth going the short way, but when I try konging the table the long way (the table is about 6-7 feet and I'm 5' 7"ish tall), I can never get all the way through it.

I sort of dive into it, and first contact is my hands about a foot to six inches from the opposite edge.  But once I'm that far, my legs always come down and skid along the table.  In other words my feet never make it through.

Do I just need to work on my feet movement?  If so, how would I go about doing that?  This IS with a splitstep take off but, I do notice myself stutterstepping a little.  How do I fix that?  Could I possibly be reaching too far onto the table so that the angle of my arms cause my momentum to stop?

Parkour And Freerunning / Deaughh! Found a local parkour group...BUT!
« on: November 12, 2011, 07:17:39 PM »
Ugh so I've been wishing my tiny town had a Parkour group since I moved here 4 months ago.  I just yesterday was told by a new friend I got when I moved here that there IS a group, and it's called "LA Flow" (it's in Louisiana).  So then I'm pumped, but he also said if you see graffiti's of "La Flow" you'll know why.  So that makes 'em seem a bit douchey right?  And then he says they're pretty much all seniors (and I'm a freshman).  I don't think I'd be comfortable as a new kid freshman trying to join a parkour group of possible douchey seniors?  I dunno. ??? And I just googled the group and it came up with this vid:
So they perform parkour for a talent show??  It makes me think they don't know what parkour is really.  But I don't know.  I don't know what I should do if anything...?

Welcome! / Hello :o

I've been around for a few weeks, but never introduced myself so...

My names Levi, and I'm pretty interested in parkour and I guess freerunning.  I grew up on playing Prince of Persia (the 1989 game) and always wanted to be like him, like running and jumping and stuff. Then when I turned 9 I saw youtube videos of parkour, and I was like, "WOOW people actually DO that!" and I wanted to do it too, but I waited until I was 13 to start.

Or so I thought I started.  I used to live in a little old Louisiana town and no one really knew what parkour was, so it was just me and a friend who wanted to do it. We basically learned rolls, and then tried to jump off our roofs (which I realize is a stupid thing to start off with), did vaults (kongs mostly) at our local park, and some catleaping & wallclimbing. Then I had to move to where I lived now, and I know hardly anyone.

I'm 14 now, and have been reading up stuff on here for the summer, and realize how stupid (lol) it was for me to do the jumping off stuff right off, and also some of the mentality aspects of parkour. (I often stare at like old buildings and rails and stuff, even though I haven't learned what to do on them properly xD) Now I'm wanting to condition myself better before really doing anything. Unfortunately I'm really skinny I guess, and often can't motivate myself to do anything...due to my uncomfortability of where I live:  I'm afraid people will think I'm an idiot (silly I know) on first impression, and stay away forever lol.

But whatever.  Hello and i hope to maybe actually start conditioning for parkour, if I can get myself to, and be part of this forum (its awesome!)

Freerunning / Flipping Mental Block
« on: September 26, 2011, 12:36:08 PM »
Hey I'm trying to learn the frontflip and backflip if possible, and I just can't get myself to do them on ground. Into a pool, I do frontflips perfectly with a great height, tuck, and everything, and backflips too, because I almost land on my back after completing the backflip, but on ground, my mind kind of stops me from doing it last second! I got myself to do the frontflip twice, but both were bad. The first I didn't bother jumping OR tucking so i landed on my back, and the second I jumped, but didn't tuck, landed on my feet, but fell back. It didn't feel right to me anyway. I haven't tried the backflip on ground in a while, but when i last did, I flipped, but hit my face on the ground pretty hard. I KNOW I can do them into a pool, but somehow I can't get myself to do them correctly (if at all) on ground. How do i get over this mental block? (btw I don't have a pool, it was at a friends)
