Just throw a backflip and tell them to stuff it.

Wait, dude, colorado springs has an absolutely massive parkour community hahah!  Everyone in the Friends Films videos trains there and they all train at Cottonwood Park, i think.

General Discussions (Competition) / Re: What is a worldchampion?
« on: April 02, 2012, 06:46:38 PM »
So if parkour is highly invidual how come the very same people promote themself as champions? I believe in what I wrote above for the moment unlesss someone else have another explanation.

I have NEVER heard any traceur promote themself as a world champion.

Also, in Red Bull AoM competitions usually they hold a big public jam with the competing athletes before or after the competition in order to connect them with the community.

Quote
Because I honestly don't believe the main reason to the competition is fun and camradieship. A jam would be more than sufficient for that. The reason is probably rather ego (impressing others, tv, gaining recognizion, being labeled as a master etc) since the people who attent will get personal gains.

Athletes who participate don't sign up for them themselves.  They're invited and they accept the invitations because really, why not?  It's a way to connect with other athletes all around the world that you wouldn't get to meet up with otherwise, for less effort and money than organizing a worldwide jam with your friends.  My friend Max (henry) was telling me that he loves the AoMs because he gets to meet up with his friends who live all around the world at pretty much no cost to himself and jam and chill for a few days.  I'm friends with quite a few people who "compete" and I can tell you right now that NONE of them do it for any of the reasons posted above, it's just a "hey, I was invited, get to meet up with my friends, free food, nonstop training, and good natured competition.  why the hell not?" haha.

No offense, but the idea that they do it to be labeled as masters makes me laugh hahaha, traceurs are the most humble of athletes in my opinion :)

Movement / Re: J-step gainer vs. Kick the moon?
« on: February 24, 2012, 08:51:24 PM »
Can't remember the name of it right now, but there's a difference between a gainer flash where you land on the same foot you kicked on and in a gainer where you land on the jumping leg and swingthrough.

gainerswitch :)

A Kick the Moon is a type of Jstep Gainer where you sort of slant around on the flip.

A J step Gainer is just any backflip out of a j step setup.

Hahaha funny you should ask. I remember Shay posted a tutorial on side flips.

In case no one else gets back to this thread soon...

That's one of the most detailed tutorials out there IMO.

Yay! :D  Thanks haha

a) You must have really big 13 year olds wherever you live...

b) If anything in this video is new to you you need to watch more videos.

c) MASSIVE dive roll at 0:45.

My buddy Zach just tried it randomly outside last June, excuse my crappy video from so long ago haha, it's at 0:43

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znfE-bKsHWo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znfE-bKsHWo</a>

I learned it like 2 weeks ago haha, it looks hard but it's actually very easy, you guys should try it, we've been trying them in a gym with kong -> barani -> reverse kong (as opposed to kong -> front -> dash), it's a fun little move!
