To be honest, Catwomen. There is a scene where she is springing around a jewellary store. First inspiration.

Then I girl that I like was talking about it. Said there was a group of people that called themselves the "Urban ninja"
Needless to say, Youtube, youtube, and more youtube. Then I found here. *Love*

Parkour And Freerunning / Re: Teaching courses.
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:23:42 PM »
Actaually, I was hoping to train them outside. I'm not looking for property liability for our training spot, but personal liability so i dont get sued cause someone got hurt. :)

Parkour And Freerunning / Teaching courses.
« on: February 19, 2010, 09:31:22 AM »
I want to start seriously teaching in my communtiy. I have been training for four years, and lately whenever I go out, I am teaching instead of progressing myself. There was another topic about a traceur that was in the same situation. It was suggested that we should actually pick one day of the week to instruct newer people. Wel, I thought it may be a good idea to teach classes. :)
I have my order for what I am teaching (rolls rolls rolls)
Now to my question.
If I am running classes, I dont want to be heald liable for any of my students getting hurt. I need ideas for a waiver/contract type dealie

Also, I need advertising Ideas. >.>

Just order my vibram's: +1
Helped a younger traceur learn Kongs +1
Taught another traceur that Roofs are Bad +1
Convinced my GF to start training +1

Total = 190

It would sadden me. I think I will continue to practice the movement, but truthfully I believe that as a community will change.

My future sight is that the word Purist will start to refer to those who dont accept the commercialization instead of those who simply practice parkour and not free running.

I have become fairly inactive in posting because of the direction that this sight has started to take, but i still visit daily due to my love for parkour

Parkour And Freerunning / Did I miss a memo?
« on: November 08, 2009, 04:52:39 PM »
So, did i miss the memo about Karma being taken away? I was looking to boost someones rep for a good post, however, it doesn't seem to be there.

As counterpoint, I am running on an IBM ThinkPad, therefor, it could just be my computer...

Also, the cube seems like it can't change height, and is too big across

the cube can change sizes. Depending on which side you put it on, it can eitheh be 2' 4' pr 8' w/brace for wallrunning

Also, why on earth are those so expensive?!!??! its like $25 worth of material! :(

"The Freerunner" Magazine / Re: What would you like to see?

I ran back to the  old thread and grabbed this. Though it would be useful.

Some great Ideas here you guys, and good insight Mitchell and Zachery.  From you two I’ve gathered that it needs to have all of the latest and future events/stories while giving sections a timeless quality different than what can be found on the internet.

Here is what else I’ve been able to piece together:  I includes a summation most(if not all) of the ideas posted.
"Information that would be useful to its readers"   "epic idea"

Highlights and interviews of different traceurs (famous/known, maybe unknown) to see what they do "A Day in the Life of..."
Warm-ups, exercises, conditioning, training methods, moves, drills, etc...    (Demon's Drills section)
Featured traceur/traceuse, Movement of the month, forgotten movements, tips and tricks
Tutorials of such showing 6 progressive frames on one page to demonstrate the motion involved (with text of course)
Local and international parkour news/events and stories, headlining what's taking place in the community
Calendar listing the biggest jams, and special events in different regions of the US, and maybe the world
Philosophy, psychology, physics/science, sports, travel, and history surrounding parkour/freerunning and its development
Perhaps every once and a while an issue specifically dedicated to certain subjects i.e. tutorials

Other sports magaizines to look at the set-up
To base it similarly off of the APK site
Local and/or international focuses

Also I like the idea of:

A page with 12 seperate pictures, showing someone do a movement.  It makes it better to compare yourself to for form

  • No arguments in this thread. If there are conflicting opinions, we will sort it out when we're combining all the definitions.

*pokes head out from behind corner*

Hey dude could we get a link to your video?

*ducks and covers behind bomb shelter to hide from flamethrowers*

Could we get a link to the video?

I am just curoius...

Yes, they will be competing and in fact they will need to want to win if it will be a successful show - can you imagine if pro football players were interviewed before the game and said "I don't really care who wins I just want to do my best"  - that wouldn't fly

Okay, Really? I shouldn't have to point out the flaw in that statement.

As for the definition of parkour, that is AmericanParkour's definition. As Mark already pointed out, Parkour is a community discipline, the sole definition of APK is not the definition of Parkour. It would be an unintelligent to believe so.

Just because APK says nothing about competition doesn't mean that competition is a none issue. Obviously competition is an issue, shown throughout this thread. Therefor, making a decision on this, is not a good idea. I am not saying you can't do it, because obviously no one has any say in whether or not competition can or cant be involved.

What if someone told you That santa only had six reindeer? or that the you weren't allowed to throw faster then 80 miles in baseball, so that more people could play and hit balls.

Taking an aspect out of an everyday thing is world shaking, hence why we have such heated arguments, Taking an official step towards setting it in stone is like taking away our right to believe that its not competitive.
Plus you will be sending in a wave of traceurs with different beliefs then us.
The line between Pro and Con competition traceurs is pretty significant, but is it necessary to make it even bigger?

A father and son are in an accident, the father dies and the son is taken to the hospital. When he gets there the doctor says, "I can't treat him, he's my son."

The surgeon is his mother.

IMHO It look like a bunch of idiots (or possibly post skaters) doing parkour extremely wrong and for the wrong reason

Parkour And Freerunning / Re: Parkour and nicknames
« on: September 06, 2009, 05:12:20 PM »
Good answers so far from most, however I'm a bit disappoint at those who used the internet argument.  Seeing as the question was pertaining to parkour culture, not this forum or traceurs on the internet, you totally missed the point.  But once again, I've seen some very good answers so far - a few of which I had not considered.

Yes, but you have to realize; The internet is part of our culture.
