I personally learned my backflips on a trampoline :P but since you want to be putting these into practice in urban environments im not sure if thats the best way to go. You way just want to look for a personal trainer? Im not sure but I think they would know how to teach a backflip on the ground.

Probably around 50% of the flaws in wall running is the technique. The other 50% are generally weather conditions. I assume you are not trying the wall run while it is raining or on a granite wall right ::) The way that works the best IMO is to make sure that you are kicking off at a 45 degree angle. Also, Doing the wallrun at a low speed (Light jog) will generally not give a beginner enough power and momentum to get up a wall. So if you lightly jog until you get to about 10 feet from the wall and all-out sprint you should be fine for speed. Then, when you kick off the wall, Make sure that you are pushing up AND away. Pushing straight up will cause your feet to slide. Then again, If you kick off at a 45 degree angle it would be hard NOT to go up and out. Good luck!

Actually, I would not practice both left and right yet until you have the basic fundamentals down on the roll technique itself. I started using my dominant side first and then I slowly progressed to my left as well  but trying to train both simutaneously would have been a bit difficult. Then again, it is mostly the preference of the traceur, Im just telling you what worked out for me. Good luck on your training!

I have this problem because I have flat feet, and the best way to improve it is to make sure you have good shoes. Not $30 ;D But you know what I mean, And if that is not the problem I would try to absorb less force upon landing as absorbing it while you go into the landing. Kind of confusing there...But I hope you get my meaning :P

You should try to come in at more of an angle if you are hitting your head down on the ground. If you are already coming in at enough of an angle, Try tucking your head toward your armpit a little more and this should fix the problem. Good luck!

Something that has worked good for me in the past in learning the basic roll is to place a mat of cardboard on cement. Just enough of a section to roll on without running out of space. Then stand on a stool about 1-2 feet in the air just enough so that you get SOME downward force when you impact the ground and jump off off that in a forward motion (Make double sure that the stool is not going to shoot out from under you when you jump forward though :P ). When you land analyze what part of you hurts on the landing. The cardboard will take the bite of hitting the concrete out, but it will still let you know if you mess up :P Good luck I hope this helps you out!

Seriously though jumping into bushes isnt exactly the best idea ever simply because some of them have thorns and would not make a very good landing

What helped me learn the dash vault was just to stop thinking about what could go wrong and just do it. Get a good running start for the first time because it does take a bit of momentum but once you get it you will be like "I cant believe how easy that was." Trust me

A word of advice for anyone who does parkour...STAY AWAY FROM K-SWISS SPORT SHOES!!! No grip whatsoever although they have now developed better shoes I think the best for parkour so far would be asics, Nike, and some of those. I currently have a set of Nike that costed about $60 and I love them. They are great for wallruns and tic-taks and they are very durable while staying light! Deffinently recommended...I will get back to you guys on the exact model but I bought them at Kohls.

Try to train your Tick-Tacks and Wallruns a bit more. It will help you reach some of the harder areas while strengthening your leg muscles. Plus you would get to train your top-outs and Climb-ups while you are at it!

My advice for you would be to just know your limits and push them very slowly until you feel you have a better grasp on parkour. Train the basics and core essentials such as the basic landing and roll. I cannot stress enough how important your landing is. Just be safe and most importantly, have fun doing it;D
