Title: PARKOUR GENERATIONS EXPO - COLUMBUS, OHIO MAY 22-25
Post by: Muhammad on April 13, 2008, 07:44:38 PM
"On the weekend of May 24th and 25th a six-strong team from Parkour Generations will be running open training days in Columbus, Ohio in the United States. In conjunction with the Ohio State University parkour community, managed by Parkour Horizons, these training sessions will be free to attend and are open to any and all who want to learn. Once again Julie Angel will be present to capture the proceedings. Kazuma, Forrest, Stephane, Dan and Johann will also be there for some linked events on the 22nd and 23rd of May, before the training days commence, and it promises to be a momentous few days which we are very much looking forward to. More news to follow soon." -ParkourGenerations

As far as I know the Beast Coast wasn't confirmed yet, but then again, I've been out of touch with the news on the forums lately because I've been working two jobs and being a single daddy on top of that. Hope to see you here though ;)

Beast Coast has always (up till now) fallen on Memorial Day Weekend.. however, that might have to change, now.

I'll do my best to come.  No promises, because it's during a time when I'll be settling into a new job and might not be able to take any time off, or find the money.

This sounds like a great reason to quit my job! I'LL NEVER MISS FREE SHOES AGAIN! I was going to quit at the end of May anyway. :)

You won't be the only female there either (I am assuming you are a girl because of the name so forgive me if I'm wrong). Anna Kaczka from New Jersey is coming and a few other ladies have confirmed as well. Don't forget to mention, Julie Angel will be there. She is really cool!

I should definitely be able to attend but It'd be awesome if a local would be kind enough to host me, as of now that is the make or break factor for me.

What airport would be best for me to fly into?

zujitsu,
The reason why we're forwarding you to Nick is because we've posted up this announcement on all the parkour forums we could so instead of trying to monitor all of these forums we're trying to forward everyone to a central location (parkourhorizons.com) where we can update everyone from there. We feel this will be the best way to get out information to a lot of people and to make sure the information being put out is controlled and concrete to make sure there as few misunderstandings and miscommunications as possible.  We certainly don't want anyone not being prepared or prevented from having a great time because of a simple mix up or because someone reported something wrong or poorly on the forums!  The website is not up yet, but is should be by late this week or early next week and it will have details of all the events, seminars, accommodations, etc.  To try and role it out as soon as possible we will be concentrating on handling the most pertinent information for travelers first (like locations, airports, places to stay, etc) to make sure everyone can get here.

However, to answer your question for the time being.  Yes, there will most definitely be places to stay for free.  We will share what space we have at our places and we will make camping areas available and close, and refer people to nearby hotels.  So, please hang tight as we get the details worked out -- we will do our best to take care of everyone and host a great event!  Our goal is to help spread the word that Parkour Generations is coming so that they can better share their knowledge to as many people as possible and by doing so making the most out of their trip by benefiting the maximum amount of communities and individuals interested in parkour.

Also, just FYI, the main purpose of the flier at the top of this thread was just to get the word out so people would have enough time to start clearing their schedule and get thinking about travel arrangements.

I hope that helps.  :-)

Yeah! I am a girl. It should be fun. I'm especially excited about this because I might be studying in the UK for a while. I've quit my job to travel before... haha. There are more important things than making a less than $10 an hour.

Right on Tanya.. I'm about to do the same. Quitting everything to move overseas for a while, maybe longer..

You know, we were trying to work out some plans for an ALL GIRLS JAM during the PKG Exposition. You might talk to Muse_of_Fire about that, as she is planning to come and will probably be involved. Also, talk to Ann Kaczka from New Jersey. She is coming and I know she would be interested in getting all the traceuses networked together for this.

haha no I didn't mean it like that. I just meant I was much younger when I went there so I don't remember how long the drive was. I'm really excited for this whole thing and to meet fellow traceurs. I'm just hoping my shoulder will be all good for it. I broke my collarbone about 5 1/2 weeks ago. My doctor gave me the all clear to go but anything that puts a lot of force on it like a climb up or kongs give me a little bit of pain. I'm taking it super easy though so I should be alright for it.

Sorry folks, strike that, there are now FOUR pages to the release form. Craig Pentak from Reel Buckeye productions has added in his form as well, for admission into his video documentary series. Please be sure to get all of these taken care of before you arrive here if you are a minor under the age of 18.  ;D http://www.parkourhorizons.com

2008 International Parkour Expo in Columbus, Ohio USA

Updates:

Make sure you all double check the release form that is set up for download on our website. There should be four pages to it. The last two pages are permissions forms from Julie Angel and Craig Pentak to appear in their upcoming film projects. Do not forget to bring your State ID or driver's license. This is especially important for minors under the age of 18.

http://www.parkourhorizons.com

Also, for those of you who have requested housing and/or places to pitch a tent - it is essential that you email nick@parkourhorizons.com to confirm your request. If you previously made your request via a post on one of the forums, make sure to verify this with Nick by sending him the link to your post. Priority for housing will be determined by the date you requested it, the the distance you are traveling to get to the expo, and possibly by your financial situation.

Thank you, and travel safely!

how many people are they taking!!!

They're bringing 10 people.

Just a reminder of how far away that is... (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=halifax,+nova+scotia&daddr=columbus,+ohio&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=24.287765,58.710937&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=6)

THAT is dedication!  ;D

...although I shouldn't sell short the traceurs we've got coming from places like Florida, Texas, California, Washington (and the list goes on).

And also, I think we've got a few traceurs coming over from Europe if I remember right.  ;)

Hey Nick when I get there I might be driving a blazer which would mean I would have three Seats for transporting people... If not I will still have two.  So long as they can eather A) help with gass a little *buck or two would be a help*  or B) Know the where we are going.

Its actually going to probably be semi-formal, but just a reminder to bring some nice clothes if you have them.

This is only a few days away... should be fun, and we can't wait to meet a lot of the parkour community! (We're expecting at least 150 for the training days on Saturday and Sunday. It should be a blast, even if it is the most physically gruelling 48 hours of our lives  :P.)

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

NO PARKOUR IS TO BE DONE ON OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY'S CAMPUS.

IF YOU ARE FOUND DOING PARKOUR ON CAMPUS, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THE PLANNED EVENTS.

We have to be very, very careful with this right now since we have been working very hard to get an officially recognized parkour club at Ohio State. We trust you all will respect this, and we'll remind you more than once at the event, but we just want to make sure everyone knows.

Today's training went great. We were happy to see a big crowd (125 people) and we think everyone was able to learn a lot from the Parkour Generations members. (Some pictures from the crowd gathering at the beginning to come soon.)

We expect an even bigger crowd tomorrow due to exposure the event got in today's Columbus Dispatch!

This weekend was an amazing experience. It was incredible to meet and see again and train with some of the country's most dedicated practitioners (regardless of experience, if you showed up and worked your hardest you display dedication). I cannot thank the Parkour Horizons guys enough for their time and effort and sacrifice in putting this together and making it run so smoothly. Of course a huge thank you must go out to our friends from overseas for making the weekend what it was.

For everyone who was there, don't let this weekend be for nothing! Keep training hard and correctly, and spread to your communities the lessons you learned!

It was certainly an amazing experience for all of us here in Columbus, and a real pleasure to meet and train with so many dedicated people. We only hope that this weekend was a benefit for all who participated, and look forward to seeing you all in future jams, wherever they be held.

I am still laughing every time I think about when we were sitting in Champs waiting for dinner to be served, and you and Dan Edwardes broke out and had a nice discussion in Japanese right there in front of us LOL. That's pretty high level randomness right there.. two white guys from two different countries who are both traceurs and able to speak Japanese!

I want to thank everyone at Parkour Horizons for holding such a massively awesome event, having it run smoothly and efficiently, and especially Brian for letting me crash at his place. It was an amazing experience to be around so many passionate traceurs from around the country, I am sure that the skill level of everyone involved went up a notch just from the collective energy. I know mine did, going from almost complete n00b, up to not so complete n00b. Maybe I will stop lurking here now?

My abs are sore.

Po-yee Pang has uploaded around 550 high resolution photographs from the event which can be viewed at various sizes or as a slide show. I think that is only half of what she has, but it is enough to keep you busy for a while anyway. Some great shots in there. Check it out:
