Title: The Snaps Jar
Post by: Alissa J. Bratz on September 09, 2007, 05:54:54 PM
Okay, I would like for this to be stickied, if possible, but if not, that's cool too. :)

The purpose of this thread is basically to give "snaps" or "props" to anyone who has been helpful to you in the past. I know we have the Karma points function, but this is a way to also publicly acknowledge someone who has been helpful to you, and to give thanks.

Here are the rules:

(1) Give "Snaps" (aka props, kudos, etc.) to anyone, for anything, whenever the mood strikes you to show your appreciation.

(2) There is no limit to how many snaps you can give out in a post. If you want to give snaps to 50 people or one person, go for it.

(3) The only appropriate response to someone who's given you snaps is, "Thank you."

I guess I'll start:

Snaps to DigitalKid and the rest of FoF, Cheetah, Leon, "EmDeux," Levi, Jim and Demon from COPK, Saint7, LaurieJennifer, Ando & Cloud, and Carolynn for being such great inspirations to a newb, and for being such chivalrous "big brothers" at the COPK National Jam.

Snaps also to aggreenvln. Alex, you're the best. I'm not sure what else to say. <3

Snaps to Muse and Steve for the vast amounts of information posted on this forum for the sake of helping others. Snaps to Leon for being as nice, and humorous as you are. Snaps to Blarg for simply showing common views and interests at a time when that's all I needed. Snaps to Muhammad and Joseph, along with the other guys at OSUPK for being such gracious hosts at the jam. Snaps to Sat Santokh for your assistance with my shoe delima. Snaps to phishfi for your kindness and generosity.

+1 to all

fantastic idea, i've been thinking about this as well.  so...

snaps to muse for starting this thread, as well as for answering my questions about ballet, and for the articles on stretching she has been writing.  i'm sure anyone who applies the principles she speaks of will be better for it  =) .  oh, and also for her great 'hot lava' training idea!

snaps to muhammad for sharing the story and posting the pics about 'jungle jaina'

snaps to lauriejennifer for her math work with the 10,000 pull ups thread, and for always being so supportive of everyone.  that goes for everyone who i'll name here, as well as countless others, i'm sure

i think steve low deserves snaps for all his efforts to help others with their fitness goals, and for giving them sound advice to boot

snaps to sat and leon for just generally being cool

snaps also go out to freestylefox for the "i often wonder..." post

snaps to cloud, gearsighted, skynative, and jason@fiveten for their write-ups on pk shoes... actually, everyone involved with that thread...

and, finally, snaps to everyone who was involved with the making of the APK dvd tutorial material

Snaps To Steve Low for always giving good advice, and for occasionaly stepping in to keep me from doing something dumb in my training (MF article).  Snaps also to Muse for this thread.  There are too many boards out there where everyone just flames on each other, so it's really nice to see one where everyone cares about one another :)

Snaps to MoF and Cheetaur for being uber-useful + everyone else in the gen fitness forum that answers questions regularly (sorry if I missed anyone :P).

Snaps to the Tribe (specially Demon & Skipper) for the three great national jams I've been to.

I got an idea that would be cool to expand this. Someone with technical skills (aka not me) should make or find an app that would be able to show snaps without running through this thread to see if you have been snapped. Like say you get snapped on your profile similar to karma, but you can check in your profile to see who snapped you and why, i think that would be cool ??? ;D.

Snaps to MoF for this thread
Snaps to Leon for the technoo studio
Snaps to M2 for standing up to pk.net for everytime they decide you screwed something up
Snaps to Demon for just being awesome
Snaps to the newbs who are gonna stop making videos for purposes other than getting lots of pointers (aHem)
Snaps to all the tribe and copk who i didnt mention so you dont feel left out
Snaps david belle for inventing parkour

In order of appearance...

Snaps to M2 for answering my initial, inquisitive (and lengthy) emails with such encouragement and sound advice.  Thanks for helping me start out on the right track and for not at all making me feel awkward or foolish for knowing so little.

Snaps to the SFPK guys for their hospitality and acceptance while I was out that way.

Snaps to Muse for being Muse.  In other words, for being friendly, intelligent, helpful, full of wisdom, humorous, etc., etc.

Snaps to LeoNn for being... LeoNn.  There are no other words.

Snaps to Steve Low for giving such thorough and incredibly helpful advice.  I never did get back to you, Steve, about my workout routine that I asked you to critique.  Needless to say, I applied many of your suggestions and have been very pleased with the results.  Thank you so much for your input!  Many times I've read posts of yours and it has saved me the trouble of having to ask questions I didn't even know I had.  "I'm a stronger person today because of you!"  (ha)

Snaps to Muhammad for being so friendly, encouraging, entertaining, and helpful.  These boards would definitely not be the same without your contributions.

Snaps to Cloud, Ando, and the other Aero guys for pulling that turn vault out of me, and for how incredibly much I was able to learn through one day of instruction and observation.  Besides, you guys are just a lot of fun.

Snaps to Frosti for his contagious confidence.  I watched him get guys to do stuff they didn't know they could do.  Sadly, I never did step up to the plate, but he made me want to train harder.

Snaps to Demon for his uncanny ability to so clearly both instruct and inspire such a wide number of traceurs he's never even met.  He contributes much to the Parkour community.

Snaps to Acewall and his rad films.  Highly entertaining.

Snaps to chipset, just because I think he's cool and deserves snaps.

Snaps to Skipper, Animus Light, Happydud, *Monkey*, and many others for the same reasons.

Wow, how did I miss this thread?  I guess I gotta stop skipping over stickies (aren't they usually just reserved for boring stuff like "Board Rules" and "READ ME FIRST" posts?).

Snaps to WillGrind for being such a great teacher -- I definitely learn the most new and interesting moves under his watch.
Snaps to GearSighted for having such a strong focus on basics and such a good eye for even the smallest of mistakes -- Though I still can't precision onto rails even if my life depended on it, I'm starting to land more thanks to his drills and corrections.
Snaps to M2 for mercilessly whipping us into shape -- The words "meet me at the loading dock!" will forever leave an indelible scar on my poor, tortured soul.  ;)

*Kipup, for helping me with my wallrun technique
*Psykosis: You f#cking WIN
*Darko, for finally teaching me how to kong (now just have to figure out how to land them without breaking anything)
*Gear, who actually hasn't punched me out yet despite the fact that I am clearly annoying.
*Steve, for his excellent fitness advice.

I've only been to one jam ever, but (B)East Coast last year made an incredible impression on me. So...

-Snaps to everyone I met (especially Zack, Amy, and Amy's friend whose name I can't remember) because there wasn't a single person there that wasn't cool. Nobody made me feel like a turd for being a newbie or running around with the cell camera out all the time. And everyone was encouraging and welcoming no matter what. That was awesome and I will never forget it.
-Snaps to Skipper for the organization of the jam, the food, and the front yard.
-Snaps to M2 for opening Primal to us for the jam and leading the training session.
-Snaps to people coming from all over the place to jam in DC.

Other unrelated:
-Snaps to Muse for being the most positive, upbeat, and encouraging person I've never met.
-Snaps to everyone involved in the Tribe tutorial DVD.
-Snaps to all those who write (Gear in mind) and create tutorials (Demon in mind).

Snaps for CptBongue for keeping me on track and being pretty inspiring. He's always really encouraging and seems to like helping people. I give him snaps for being personable and open to criticism and ideas. He takes advice and puts it into practice then uses his experience to help newcomers.

Snaps too, for all the Missouri people helping put together the scene. 3 months ago there were scattered posts of "who lives by me" and now we've got definite jam dates, people know others who are close and we've consolidated or at least contacted the other MO groups not on the site. You guys rule.

He got me here, he got my favorite traceur(TK-17) to talk to me on the phone, he is buying me Ariakes...The list just goes on. He has been that brother I have never had...so thanks a lot Fox. Snaps to...

Ozzi for being such a positive force for parkour in general, and for being so positive on APK.

M2 for hosting the Women's Seminar at Primal, and also for all he has done for parkour this side of the Atlantic. There's a lot of good he does for the discipline that's "invisible"/that we don't see, and yet we are better off for it. Whether we realize it or not, a lot of us are where we are (individually and collectively) in a large part because of his efforts.

Amanda, Laurie, and Janine for being such amazing teachers at the Women's Seminar. I learned sooooo much from observing all of you. You are incredible teachers and traceuses.

Leon, for being so supportive and friendly, and for eating my cookies (and for giving me a reason to bake them in the first place). Also, for helping me with some things for my classroom. This means more than you can imagine.

Chris Salvato, BobT, ChadManX, & Steve Low for keeping people fit and injury free on the forums. These guys always can be counted on to give the straight dope on food and fitness.

Jesse for coming up with the WOD every day.

Ryan for everything he is doing in Colorado, to "legitimize" parkour and also to deliver consistent, excellent training to the people in his community.

Levi for being an inspiration.

Cloud and Ando and all of Aero/Chicago parkour for being so welcoming and supportive to Madison in our infancy.

Muhammad and Nick and all of PK Horizons for working so tirelessly not only on the PK Generations event but also on establishing parkour as a serious discipline in Ohio and beyond.

Tyson, for carrying the weight.

The guys in Toronto, for their dedication to excellence.

TK17, for keeping us honest.

Chad, for being there.

Snaps to Zac for including Madison in his summer tour, and for sharing his wisdom and experience during his stay. We learned a LOT from him. Super-snaps to Zac also for helping out with our first training session with Girls, Inc. today. It was a huge success and I think we owe a lot of that to what Zac contributed to the planning and the execution of the session.

These first three snaps are very special to me, I can't thank these people enough, they've helped me to no end:
Snaps to Steve Low for putting me on the right path of actually understanding exercise physiology, diet, and for always helping everybody else in the general fitness section.
Snaps to Chris Salvato for putting me on the right path for diet, as well as helping with exercise physiology and planning a workout routine. Not to mention always helping everyone else, too.
Snaps to Charles Moreland for doing the same: Information on exercise/diet/etc. (and especially running form)

Snaps to all of them for putting up with my stupid questions all the damn time, and not getting too bothered with me.

Snaps to Mark Rippetoe for being a f#cking genius, and making such an amazing book. (Again, snaps to the above three for pointing me towards such an amazing book.)

Snaps to M2 for making such a powerful site, holding it together, putting up with bullshit, and respecting us all the same.

Snaps to Jesse Rosenburg (and his parents) for hosting everyone at the New York jam. Snaps to him for being an awesome traceur in general, he flows like water (pardon the oh-so-repeated cliché word usage.)

Snaps to Jereme Sanders (and parents) for hosting everyone at the Texas Jam. Snaps to him for being awesome.

Snaps to Muse for being so devoted to helping people out, having such great cooking ideas, and being a nice person in general.

Snaps to the APK community, whether we're yelling at each other, or giving each other high fives, the fact that we ARE a community, and a strong one, is very important towards everyone's progression and general having-a-good-time.

Snaps to everyone that yelled at me when I posted my very first video a little over a year ago, telling me to not be such a dumbass (too many bigger drops), and setting me on the right path.

Snaps to Levi for kicking ass at Ninja Warrior, being a good-spirited person, and being from Michigan. =P

Snaps to Zac Cohn for doing a sweet round-the-country trip over the summer, keeping everyone updated and supplying us all with write-ups and videos. And being a sarcastically funny son of a bitch.

I'm sure there are many, many more. But I can't think of everyone right now.

Snaps to everyone that I've ever met at a jam and jammed with, to everyone whose topics I've posted on, or who posted on my topics.
Snaps to all of us.

MAD snaps to Chris Salvato and Charles Moreland, they took me out of my body building workout and helped me make a workout that would better suit me and my advancement in parkour. They even listened to mah noobyness about my dilema. so Snaps upon props upon thanks to them!

Also snaps to Jason@fiveten, his knowledge of the stealth compelled me to buy freerunnners, which are the best shoes I have ever worn. (some may disagree with the best part)

Wow. I guess I don't get to "socialize" much :)

First off, thanks for the snaps, I'm touched, and this comes at a time when I could use it.

Second, I'm afraid I can't name anyone, doing so would be unfair to the 100's of other awesome people who deserve snaps.

But, it would be unfair not to mention some people too. I'll stick to people most of you know, or should know.

Jesse- holds a lot of shit together and allows me to do a lot of things that I could never do without him
Skipper - the same, and also for tirelessly putting up with me changing my mind on what's important. I'll be in by 10.
Frosti - my voice of reason - or at least a little bit of reason :)

David Belle - for the initial inspiration and leading the way
Sebastien - fro more inspiration and showing another way

the tribe guys - for inspiring the hell out of me and making my work have some value, and giving me something to do with my life

the alliance guys - unsung heroes whose day in the sun will come

Steven Low - this one should be obvious :)

Muse - don't think I need to put anything here :)

The people who train at Primal, and the people who help at Primal, especially Rob, but also Amanda, Salil, Eugene and Pilou

I'm going to run out of time, I knew it.

There are 100's of people who make my life enjoyable, and there is no way to give you all enough snaps to show my appreciation - but trust, it's there.

The people who train hard - harder than most, with slower results. Keep at it.

The people who have learned and gained from me or this site, you give me purpose.

My wife is a saint.

Snaps to...everybody.  Everybody?  Everybody...lol.

This community is a fantastic asset to traceurs and freerunners of all levels, and I'm proud to be a part of it, and I hope I can contribute by extending the knowledge I've gained here to others.

Snaps to the big names:
-Mark Toorock for creating this online PK Mecca, and all the moderators that keep this place up and running
-Ozzi for his comprehensive tutorials, and the HawaiiPK team in general for showing me an island isn't such a bad place to learn PK...lol
-Charles Moreland and Chris Salvato for all the diet and exercise advice they've given me and countless others(I'm now down to 226 lbs. from the 235 I was when I first signed up for the site 3 weeks ago.)
-Jereme Sanders for showing me that you really can train ANYWHERE
-Muse, for inadvertently teaching me the value of a good post-workout stretch
-My roof, for giving me somewhere to do pull-ups.
-My island, for being there for me to explore
-My dog Lucky, who forced me to invent new forms of QM while I was trying to dodge him during my training
-My ankles, for giving me so much support over the years(har har)
-All of you....AGAIN!  I really do appreciate all I've gained here.  Thanks can't ever say enough...:)

Heh... careful, that might go straight to his head. :)

Seriously though, I was going to give snaps to Chris as well...I have been trying to get more serious about my training and as a result I've been completely neurotic. Chris has been very patient with me and given great advice. So... thank you!

I laughed because he stood out while some are movement pics, some drawings (like mine) and some are random cute things like bunnies and monkeys, his was so serious that it made me laugh. Thanks bro, you just brightened up an otherwise shitty day.

Snaps to Steve and Charles for being so awesome.

Grand snaps to Gabe for his Prose Corner. If it weren't for him, I might never have tried to write a story, and his were great reads themselves. I wonder what became of that awesome thread...?

BIG snaps to Chris Salvato, the first guy to help me on these forums who also jump started my curiosity of anatomy and nutrition and whatnot. Also, for being such a cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything and my idol.

Finally snaps to everyone who read my posts and actually put weight behind my words. I was going through a rough spot in my life which is finally starting to get better now. Snaps to everybody who just listened, or rather, read my words.

I have this pendant, given to me by a lady-friend: http://www.strongblade.com/prod/sbag-deathhammer.html

My given name is Luke, but I worked as an RA in college and acquired the nickname 'Lars the Viking' or 'RA Technoviking' since there was another RA named Luke already and I had blond hair down to the middle of my back. I also have the build of a dwarf, 5'10" and 220 lbs, so it works for me. :-)

There is a reason there's a no politics, no religion rule.  It's difficult to establish a line that defines what is or isn't offensive.  To you snaps to a particular commonplace deity may not be an issue, but you're taking for granted something that may be offensive to someone else.  Same as, were I to give snaps to something or someone very anti-religious, or blashphemous, certainly I would be taking for granted that that may be offensive to some of you.  By avoiding the topic of religion in general we avoid taking these things for granted and can talk about something important instead, like parkour.

Also, snaps to anyone who has helped me.

Got to get a lot of these out of the way, so bear with me.

Snaps to the entire Primal Fitness family for showing me a great time over my vacation.  It was really nice seeing all of them treat this poor little country mouse with such hospitality.

Snaps to Skipper for his skills in making Creamsicle floats and letting me film him doing stuff with my Aiptek HD camera.

Snaps to Frosti for teaching me more about flow and how to better my precisions in one hour's worth of a class than I've learned in the year I've been training.

Snaps to Travis Noble Graves for being someone who just never shuts up.  I can respect a man who talks all day long.

Snaps to Jesse Woody for nearly killing me during a morning workout.  Although I almost died, I felt like I accomplished an important life goal after making it through one session with him.  DOUBLE SNAPS EXTRAVAGANZA POINTS to Jesse for being from Bristol, TN (REPRESENT EAST TN BABY w00t)

Snaps to Salil and Animus at Urban Evolution for being so nice, letting me play around in their gym, and teaching me a little more about Parkour.  Again, DOUBLE SNAPS EXTRAVAGANZA to Salil 'cause he's a Memphis boy (REPRESENT WEST TN!).

Snaps to Billy and Leon, two of my best friends in the world and men who I love, admire, and respect as colleagues and brothers in arms for letting me into their home and taking me to Top Golf one night while I was on vacation.  DOUBLE SNAPS to Billy for being straight awesomesauce with any golf club AND TRIPLE snaps for him beating me at Guitar Hero.

Since you young'uns like it so much...tl, dr: Snaps to everyone on my vacation who helped me get my smile back.

Today's TRIPLE ULTRA HYPER COMBO AROUND THE WORLD AND BACK SNAPS go to Skipper for introducing me to the concept of Friday-Fridays.

Ever since I incorporated the concept into my work week, my life has been that much sweeter.

You, sir, are a Real American PK Hero.

Snaps to Ashley McC for thinking my work was good enough to make into a T-Shirt for Asphalt Science.  I am officially buying ten of those when they drop. You heard it here first.  COMBO SNAP for her thinking my work was also good to put on the Asphalt Science blog.

We may have to see about me doing an Asphalt Science Blog exclusive soon...

Snaps to all the people today who have helped me get a little better position in life today.

Snaps to the two individuals in 12 hours who called me and trusted me enough to handle matters for them.

Snaps to Leon (even though he hates getting called out on his good deeds...humble little *CENSORED*) for just asking me "How's your training been lately?"  Sometimes it's nice to get that question asked.  Just saying.

I don't deserve snaps. Don't give me any.
I don't do things to be recognized, I do things because in my heart I know it's right.

Snaps to Steven Low for putting up with me through the most immature years of my teenage life when I would ask for advice and screw around like a dick. Also snaps for providing input in a bunch of really informative articles and responses.
