Title: Landing in bushes.
Post by: king_of_rooftops on August 21, 2007, 11:38:28 AM
After I saw jackass i had an idea. In one part they where jumping into bushes. I have never seen it done before but what if bushes could stop a fall from a high place. I mean we have always used trees and stuff to cat lap from and vault over, why not use bushes to stop a fall from really high?

Too itchy  :P I would think that would be a really uneven landing spot though and you could get more easily hurt that way? Idk

A bush branch can puncture your ribcage / organs. I'd think it's a good choice in case of an emergency landing, but not something to practice.

I think I did it when I was five from the second story of my house.

i have experimented with bush diving. they aren't exactly great landing pads. i guess it depends on the type of bush and how big it is.

hmm...You have given me alot to consider...;D
Seriously though jumping into bushes isnt exactly the best idea ever simply because some of them have thorns and would not make a very good landing

Well I have been looking at some bushes around the area and there is one really thick one. It kind of looks like it has thorns but if you put your hand on it it is fairly soft. The branches are all soft and green and it is about 5 square feet.

If you where jeans or long pants you can just jump into it feet first and role sidways off it it and continue running in one fluid motion. It lets you jump off really high stuff without even feeling anything.

What do you guys think?

I can't help but feel like you might be using this as a shortcut to learning proper technique, or an easy way to jump off something too high.

If someone jumped on my shrubs and crushed them, I'd probably chase them down with a big stick.

Just don't say you were "doing Parkour" esp after you hurt yourself...

Sure its going to cushion a fall.  Although, I dont think we do to much Falling.  Its usually a controlled land followed by a direction of movement to disperce energy as it follows.  Falling is ment to stop...we try to do that as little as possible.

I think jumping into bushes is a wonderful technique for navigating human social structure, as in if you scream "HEY GUYS IMMA GONNA CLEAR DAT BUSH!!!!!!!!" Then plow headfirst into it and roll out the other side, people laugh their asses off.
