Title: Could I take it in Stages
Post by: Jeremiah Townsend on May 23, 2013, 03:26:14 PM
Rolling on concrete

the thing everyone is scared of until they commit

So I am fine with grass, can do a roll no problem from a story up

I can do em on crash mats, Not scared there but they are a little sloppy because I have not found stiff and firm mats.

What is a good next stage, besides cement, That I can use to gain more and more confidence

Try Dirt or gravel outside. also the floors inside your house will be fine.

If you're doing them on grass try doing them on patches of dirt. Otherwise try a carpeted area of your home, if not put a thicker blanket down, and degrade to something less thick until you're working on linoleum or hardwood.

Otherwise you could just start doing them slowly on concrete. Honestly nothing is going to prepare you for the feel of concrete but concrete, granted hardwood has non-existant absorbency. The smooth surface versus the scratching surface of concrete will not compare.

This. It's best to drill the roll until you have it perfect on mats, then work your way up. Just as Ryan stated, the only way to get over that mental block is to roll on concrete.

Just did it on linoleum, I have two points of pain, outside wrist and opposite hip. Why? I took a video and showed it up. These are dive rolls, so they are not nearly as good as my rolls. I will show you those tomorrow when there is better light.

They look like standard rolls, but still practice them.
