Title: Welcome!!!
Post by: Skinny on April 02, 2007, 02:28:48 PM
Welcome to APK's UWRF college board. Feel free to post what you want here. Ask questions, set up jams, give the advice that you can. If you have never been on a forum before, read the rules, even if you have been on a forum, read the rules anyway.  Also, we are all in college, so if fo sum resun u liek 2 tipe liek dis, don't. Proper grammar and punctuation are appreciated.

Lastly, don't feel limited to this one board either. The best way to learn is to go read the other threads and ask questions there as well.

Hey.  I'll be rocking the RF parkour as soon as I'm moved in.  Anyone want to explore with me, or even show me spot or two?

Alright, as mentioned at practice, we will have a jam on saturday, the 15th, at 1pm.  We will meet infront of the UC and explore the campus a little and see where that takes us!

Everyone pray to the weather gods for sunshine.

On another note, do you know if we aren't allowed on anything?

We aren't allowed on anything that would be illegal by law.  There may be some stuff they don't want us to be on (I don't know what that would be) but we can use our best judgment right? Yeah, we are smart, that's why we're in college!!!

I was wondering if the group could check out cameras once in a while for training purposes.  I'm not too big on PK videos, but a camera on a tripod could be great for nitpicking techniques.

Despite my prev. statement, a RF Pk vid would be really cool to play on the club day during WOW.  Granted, you might have shown one, I didn't get a chance to see the booth.  Also, still images would be great for photoshoping into a logo/emblem if anyone wants one.

I need to get off-line.  I'm totally whoring the community at the moment.

I love having a camera, it's fun to see what you can do, and it is great for technique critiquing.  I'm sure we could rent one out.

And I agree with you on the pk vids.  There are a lot of crappy ones out there. That's why I haven't released one yet. I want to, but I want to make sure that it is worth watching.

Heh.  I wouldn't even have thought about it that way.  I was thinking more along the lines of, "a lot of the people making vids, or who want to, are just showing off".  It's linked to my dislike of commercialized martial arts and the bastardization of pretty much every pure pursuit imaginable, but the majority of me would really rather just practice for me.  Not for anyone else's entertainment, or even an increase in other people's respect of me.  But that's just me.

Of course, it was the good vids that got me hooked to begin with, so maybe there is some good to "showing off"(;

Yeah, I agree, I wish people would just train instead of worrying about what a vault is called, whether or not flips are parkour, who started what, competition, certification and everything else people worry about.  It is a young discipline and will grow when it needs to. People are trying to force new things upon it too soon.  Just train and push your personal boundaries.

Yeah, video is good for personal use, but I think of a video like a movie. It should be something you are proud of.  To show your best creativity and skills.  I don't want other people's respect, I want them to know that I understand what I am doing and have a decent skill level.  I want to make one, and if it is not up to a personal standard, I won't release it for everyone to see.  It can be like the little video I threw together for fun and for a few people to see. It's on google video, but not available for anyone to see.

PRACTICE TONIGHT! I'm getting that back tuck! 400 CONFIDENCE!!!(http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php?topic=5461.0)

thanks.

I'm thinking we should either take a field trip to a cpu lab and get everyone set up with an account, or set up a calling tree.  It's difficult to organise/ get any messages out to people in the group.

Didn't like sweaty any more?

No, APK just confuses/hates me.  I think it has to do with having to accounts, one for the main page and one for the forum.  If I were smarter with computers, I would seriously consider offering to re-vamp some of the site, it's very inefficient in some aspects.  I think I have the name fixed for now though.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get going on this. I'm a bit scatter brained.

Anyways, I'd just like to welcome back everyone for the new school year. Here's what's up if you don't know already.
Mitch, being a big jerk, decided he could go to Europe and learn cool stuff for a change. He'll be back next semester I think. I expect to learn awesome at the point.

Since Mitch is gone, that leaves me. I'll try to be as lovely as he is.

I talked with the athletic dept. and managed to get us a slot in the wrestling room on tuesday nights from 8-10.  So you should come(;

I also hope to have some runs outside of Tuesdays and the wrestling room for as long as the weather allows. It's more fun and is great for developing interest in the community. So we should do it(;

That's what she said.

I wouldn't mind running with you, but you're way the hell south of us. How long have you been running?

Also, if you don't find anyone, you can still look forward to the Midwest Jam, as well as the Monstrous Minnesota Jam.  Check out the forums about them.
