Title: The Traceur House - MOVE IN BEGINS IN JUNE!!! San Antonio, TX!!
Post by: Kyle Rudolph on February 12, 2011, 06:55:34 PM
So this is an idea that has been going through my head for a long time and now it looks like it might actually be coming to fruition. So I thought I'd share it with you guys in case you're not my friend on facebook and didn't see the post.

Basically, if I were to buy or rent a house that around 5-6 guys could live in (or more depending on how may people were interested), that was near a gym with regular open gym sessions and had a nice backyard and in close proximity to a moderate to large city, would anyone want to move in and we could all do what we love and be boss as hell? This idea has been nicknamed The Traceur House

The EARLIEST this idea will appear will be Winter of next year (Around March 2012), when I get out of college.

We're gonna be out of San Antonio, TX now.

I'm only looking for serious traceurs over the age of 18 that would be interested in this.

List of serious people interested in living there:
Kyle Rudolph
David Jones
David Johnson
Sean Endres
Jonchi Walters
Glenn Matthew Brown
Ryan Rollins
Dale McNew
Nathaniel Kauffman
Kyle Putbrese
Josh Wright
Alex Brown (Future)
Sai Chikine (Future)

That's the list so far, I will add to it if it needs to be changed due to larger interest.

There should be an application designed here fairly soon if you are interested. So if you are, shoot me a line on facebook with your current name, address, and phone number or email me at kylerudolph@mac.com
Also in the email/Facebook private message state how committed you are and the soonest you could move to the house if it were theoretically ready to go by March 2012, what your preferred choice of city is FROM THE ABOVE LISTED CITIES, what your average income is/will need, how much you could afford for rent at MAX, why you're awesome and how long you think you would be living there.

Thanks guys, will get back to you all with more information ASAP. If you have any questions, feel free to post them.

Six guys have messaged me on facebook about Philly. That's looking like almost what it's gonna be. But I'll add your idea up there. Just to see what happens. This is still a long ways off, so there is always room for possible change. But there is still a lot of planning to do.

And will be available as soon as you are Kyle. So stoked.  Soooo stoked.

And Philly would be ideal, seeing as how in PA we have 4 distinct seasons.

Well that's always also a possibility. But if we have girls living there (or that are interested in living there) I'm gonna have to make some modifications to the idea and I'll have to start looking for houses with more rooms (for privacy purposes) which, when it was just guys, was not really a factor. But we'll see. I'll get back to you on that.

But if you want it to be just guys, I'm cool with that. :)

It's a very nice idea. Did you get the idea from the martial arts tricking house (The Tricker House) in Akron, Ohio? From experience of staying some time at the Tricker House it'd be a great idea because the house itself resonates with passion of the movement.

Yeah. They've got an amazing set up and Towels is doing something revolutionary. I'm want to continue his dream because it's been something I've wanted to do as well.

And Mark, you're the 4th person suggest D.C. I'll it up there, but the majority of guys are still for some odd reason, really good with Philly, even though only two of the guys who have told me they're in with nothing to lose actually live in PA.

Definitely, I'm a bit puzzled though, whether their rumors or not, but I train with Dan Pitlock and he was talking to NinJohn and theirs talk of the Tricker House moving to California because NTBS just got jobs as stunt men in a movie. Do you know anything to back this up?

Sorry that this wasn't quite on the original topic everyone.

Dude screw dueling houses, let's band together. How many guys have you had confirmed so far that are 100% in? The ones listed above, depending on the location (at worst so far, if I choose PA which I probably will we will lose 3-4 of the guys from the list due to college issues) we will have at least 6-7 guys there that are willing to move as soon as groundbreaking happens and we can move in. If we get your guys together too we can quite possibly double the size of house for lease and if we don't do that and we stick with the house chosen, we could get rent as low as 20 dollars a month. But I'd like the idea of a bigger house personally. :p

So yeah man, pm me about it. Can't wait to hear how many guys you got.

Actually I was told by Towels that they're staying in Ohio and actually considering leasing a SECOND house due to huge amounts of guys they have inflowing into the area. Haven't heard anything about the Cali move.

Damn, people hatin on Philly....

Anyways, we got Boltbus and Megabus (Megabus being only 1$ when reserved ahead of time) which can get us to NYC, Pitt, and other areas for cheap as hell. Also, 30th Street Station has not just trains for local transportation (SEPTA) but also has many Amtrak routes, which from what I understand goes alll over :)

I practically live in Philly so I might biased a bit ;)

P.S: This will be only 1 of 3 total Traceur houses, one being Jordan's place and the other being the already established, PKHOUSE of Gabe Arnold, and some of his fellow Traceurs that attend Rowan U, around 20 minutes from Philly ;)

This makes me happy. NTBS and Loopkicks on the west coast and NTBS/SGTF/*EH*/& FM on the east coast/Midwest. Gatherings all around! Plus this Traceur House smack dab in the center means Gatherings and Jams year round.

Posting in here for several reasons.

1. Interested so keeping it marked.
2. Going to be 18 in march of 2012
3. Was planning on taking an extra few years doing nothing after I got done with high school so this would be a great and productive filler.
4. Dad is assistant manager of Costco so getting a job at the store [Anywhere in California] isn't tough [Plus, Costco has REALLY good pay :D]

Because we need to go where the majority is and where we can maximize traceur inflow while minimizing outflow. Philly, SO FAR, has the most people. But the idea only started to take form yesterday. I'm giving it until the end of the week to see what the official place will be. So far, the majority is in Philly though.

Alright guys.

Starting tomorrow official vote time is gonna be in. EVERYONE that has said they would live in the house, should it come to existence, will need to either message me on here, on facebook, or sometime during the week at my email. And BY FRIDAY have voted on the city, cause I'm gonna need to start looking for house ASAP.

CAST YO VOTES THUGS.

Well don't get too excited about my prospect of a house, this won't be happening for a while. I had talked to several friends from the Lancaster/Lehigh Valley area about the possibility of a house AFTER we were all done with college (mainly because I'm in CT during the school year) I'll definitely keep in touch with you guys, and most likely come by to visit the house if all works out, but for now, my house is going to wait for at least 3 years... :)

Idk about philly being in the center of things guys.  And it seems really random.  I think this should be focused more on whats near it as far as spots go not community.  Can there be a lot we can learn and do.  As far as being cental to most of the national Jams I would think that would be closer to east ohio honestly then you would be about five hours from every thing unless its on the edges like DC and Madison.

I agree with fox that you should pix somewhere more in the middle. I would also say count me into the list for the house but I Am not confident I'd be able to find a job and make rent very well. Depends it is next year so I might. If I have about two-three months to find a job I can possible hit minimum wage style rent. What would you expect the rent and bills share to be per person?

So yeah anywhere is cool but as fox said eastern Ohio would be really good (I like Ohio in general) or possible toward the middle of the states?
Title: Re: The Traceur House

The places in Philly that the house is near are exceptional. Around 10 minutes from an open gym, 30 minutes from downtown Philly, etc.

But like I said Dale I'm sure there are better spots to choose BUT, those better spots are useless if I'm the only one living there.

Will tally votes today and have a winner for you guys today.

Philly will challenge you in every way possible. It is responsible for making my skills, training for the majority of my time without anyone else (not saying that I'm amazing, but I feel good with myself). We're really close to a lot of other communities (and as stated before, transportation through busses for cheap is readily available) not to mention an entire train system that can get us to spots all throughout southeastern PA, and Amtrak which gets us to other major cities.

Thank you for that list, Gabe. That's very helpful. I'm sure once we get sorted on where it's at and how many people are going to be living there we will be able to determine the prices a month for each of us.

Good thing about me working at wal-mart is me being able to transfer to another state. Although, I have never lived anywhere besides Alabama so I might be in for a culture shock.

I think this is a cool idea and I can definitely understand why you would want to be  in philly. Close to New York and pretty close to DC. I did think of something else that could be done by other people.

Why not plant a house like some churches do. Go to an area where there are seemingly few traceurs, scout great parkour places around colleges and what not and make a house there to bring parkour to people who only have you tube. That way people could see the country train everywhere and start parkour communities that will keep growing. I would do it but I'm gonna be married by the time I graduate. Just an idea somewhere to go if this goes well.

I like this idea.  You should come up northeast and plant a house near me.  I would have some training partners.  I would join but im too young (still 16).  I've been wanting something like this to happen since I first joined APK.  I just hope the world doesnt end first ;)

Like Parkour Evangelism? In a way.

You could put it that way. Set up a school in the yard and just have the house be a school as well. When you have enough people interested then start teaching the best to teach. Charge for classes if you have to but only if you have to (because then it's a business and there are all sorts of bureaucratic red tape to deal with) then when the community is set up move on and have the newly started community rent the house. Then students will just pay just to keep the house and yard owned and keep the equipment up to date not for training.

Anyways didn't mean to steal your thread Kyle. If someone wants to work on basic plans for this eventfully and talk about roadblocks, troubles and what not maybe we should start a new thread. I'll leave it up to someone else who wants to do it and Kyle if a new thread should be made. This is Kyle's project and it's pretty cool. And Like I said I won't be able to but I would love to help start.

Hopefully going to get it lower then that actually. Still plenty of time off in the distance for more people to get involved. Working on layout stuff for the house atm actually.

Small Update: I have moved to New Orleans and will be there for the next three months. Starting on the 4th of March, a temporary Traceur House will be made in downtown in New Orleans, LA. It'll be open to people for three months and I can probably take in 2 or 3 people at a time comfortably. The apartment is paid for by my internship so rent is free, but yeah. If anyone feels like stopping by, you will be more then welcome to stay.

Updating now for those still interested. We are currently looking at houses (having a hard time finding one with more than three beds :/) but we've set rent at this point from between 100-300 depending on the house we go with. Also bumping in case any new parties are interested. Peace.

EDIT: Found quite a few with Gabe's website that only charge 2500 a month for rent but have 5 bedroom and 3 bath. For awhile, rent may be free as I can cover that entirely by myself.

Wowzorz... minimum rent you can find here in Santa Clara is like $800 a month... and that's WITH doubling up with someone.

That was a big reason I didn't want to go to Cali. Too expensive for a bunch of 18-27 year old dudes who either just got out of college or work blue collar jobs.

Okie dokie.

I am just going to throw a date out there. May 27th 2012. I dunno when my graduation day is. I have no clue what the military is gonna need me to do. But assuming that this would be the day when the house would open, this is who could all move in on this day.

Kyle Rudolph
Stephen Stuart
Nathaniel Kauffman
David Jones
Sean Endres

We still have one open room, but I've had a couple people (Josh Wright, Jesse Nystrom, Spencer B.) all talk about maybe taking it. However none of them are definite on move in day, so there might be one open room yet. If you could move in by the date set and would be definite, message me on here or on Facebook. After this next room is spoken for, we will either have to start doubling up or have people sleeping elsewhere in the house.

It's been decided by every guy living there that girls can visit but women can't rent out rooms or live in the house unless they're staying with or dating one of the guys at the house. This isn't a sex discrimination thing, but we've decided we want to be The Traceur House, not Jersey Shore or The Real World.

Yeah, we'll be releasing tutorials/videos/random stuff weekly.

We'll be the most bitchin' reality show ever. See Nate up there on the list? He's living outside. He's literally refused a room and is digging up an edge of our backyard and making a burrow. He's paying rent to live UNDER the house. If that isn't like the most epic thing ever I dunno what is. My only worry is that he'll dig under the fridge and our food will start to disappear.

Well it WOULD be more, but I'm fronting most of the expenses myself. Like the house we're looking at is $2500 a month for 5 bedroom/3 baths with a huge yard and garage. If everyone paid the 300 MAX, we would only get 1500 and I'd cover the 1000 left. So yeah, I'm taking the master bedroom. Just saying.

Hate to be a major downer, but it's a lot of work. And aren't you already working on starting a company plus writing a book? I'm putting off going to medical school to try this idea out because I'm still young. What are you guys going to do for financial stability? The only reason I'm able to afford this project is because of a trust fund and military payment. Also, what's your credit like? You need to have some sort of established credit to even be able to rent the house. That's why I start planning this so far in advance from the actual date. If you want any help with anything message me, but it's not just something that happens, me and Nate have put in a bit of work thinking and planning this all out and the only reason I've been able to do this was because I had no other projects going on.

The way we have the leases set up is if you don't plan to be there more than a week or two you can stay for a small fee of around 30 dollars per week (minus food you pay for that yourself) and sleep on the floors, but I'm not making it to where people can just stay for months and leave randomly. The house would fall apart if that were allowed. If you plan to stay for more than a few weeks you will have to sign a lease. Each lease is good for three months and can be renewed at the end of each lease period. If you sign a lease and end up needing to leave early, you will have to pay a "moving early" fee which is equivalent to two months of rent.

Right now we are looking at a start up date somewhere between May-July of 2012. Ultimately, it depends on my college graduation date, and the availability of houses around the time. I also need to finish up some contractual stuff with the military so I can get stationed at a nearby base (closet one being 35 miles away). Most of us are gonna head up there a few months before to scope out the job market and in addition, I'd like to have the last room filled before singing the last paper work and opening the place up.

Well,

The time is finally upon us.

I was just sworn into the Army. I will be based out of San Antonio, TX.

Currently some of the members are looking at houses for sale/rent around Fort Sam Houston where I will be located at. We will be sealing the deal on a house in the following month or so and will begin moving in at the beginning of June.

I will be buying the house, so for all the other members that will be living there, it will be rent free. Just gotta help with utilities.

Super pumped this is happening.

If anyone is interested still that has yet to contact me on facebook or isn't a member of the move in crew please hit me up on here or facebook.

IT'S REALLY HAPPENING GUYS. <33333333

(at worst so far, if I choose PA which I probably will we will lose 3-4 of the guys from the list due to college issues) we will have at least 6-7 guys there that are willing to move as soon as groundbreaking happens and we can move in.

6BR/3.5BA Townhouse - 5min to Temple University, center of Philadelphia, PA $2,400/month (http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/2741618057.html)

Free internet, extra high ceilings, private backyard, air conditioning/heat. I think the brick walls are a nice touch, guaranteed to survive numerous wallflips and tic-tacs. Neighborhood looks beat up but hey, it's the heart of Philly. Few better launching sites for all the major spots downtown.

That'd be cool.

A couple of the guys that are moving in were talking about finding a house with a nice flat yard and building a plyo floor outside on the grass and then just covering it up when we weren't using it/when it rains. If we cover it right the morning dew shouldn't warp the wood.

I've been talking to Towels about it. Apparently it's not that hard.

Though I suppose having a roof would be nice when it rains. Though we might just buying some sort of awning if worst comes to worst.

LOL!

When I was originally part of this, the plans seemed long term, enough to where 3-5 years was fine.

Don't hate.

No hate intended. I just find it funny when people plan their lives 3-5 years ahead of time. I usually live day by day and month by month...then again...I'm getting older and that's going to have to change soon.

Well if I plan my life ahead of time then I'll have more time to practice Parkour! Also where will the Parkour House be located and how much will each person need to pay monthly? And if it is somewhere close will it be okay if I may visit once in awhile?

If i moved in, i would for sure get a job and help pay rent, which would probably just end up being used to buy a spring floor lol

Well I saved up a little bit over 1k dollars so hopefully I'll be able to join in on this experience. Also is there some type of requirement of Parkour knowledge/experience that one needs in order to partake.

something food service or retail related, probably going to attend some kind of film program at a community college, definitely going to a trade school in the near future.... @kidzymarvel nothing except for an obsession so severe you want to move (in my case) halfway across one of the largest countries in the world to live with a bunch of sweaty dudes who workout too much...not to make it sound overly appealing or anything...

Obsession, check! =D I turned down a scholarship just so I may be able to learn Parkour. Although the farthest I ever got into Parkour is simply practicing the roll. It's been 3 going on 4 years of conditioning and safety roll practice and I still feel that I just haven't mastered the roll. Hopefully I'll be able to join up with you guys and learn multiple things from you all! =)

P.S I go back to college for my second semester after the Christmas break; My love for Parkour is the reason for why I am leaving college after the semester. I'll probably be able to move in between June and July if that is okay.
