Title: NEPK on NPR
Post by: Rickety on November 17, 2006, 10:52:44 AM
I just heard a short radio piece on the NPR show "Here & Now", with NEPK folks Chris & Eric (I think). It was a good piece. Maybe radio is the best medium for introducing parkour, since without images, flips just aren't as impressive.

There's stuff at:

I can't play Real Audio, but that claims to be the radio segment. Hilariously, the picture they chose for the page IS a flip!

Hell yea! I was just a/b to post this myself. I was on the way home on lunch, and randomly turned on my radio in the middle of this piece. It was well-done and made my day! :D 8)

The radio piece was fantastic, but the descriptions on their website suck.

Quote
Parkour participants, known as traceurs, flip off buildings, tumble over stairs, and jump from ledges. But traceurs say they are not concerned with showy maneveurs.

Here and Now's Kevin Donovan explains parkour, also known as "The Art of Displacement" -- a sort of gravity-defying extreme walking.

Its odd....Those completely contradict the radio piece.  The producer must not have written those...I'm emailing him.

They did replace the picture of the flip with a picture of somebody jumping.

Thats good.  Here is an mp3 link for those who don't want to bother with real player

**edit

The guy who produced the audio, Kevin Donovan, was nice enough to get the NPR web people to change the description of the piece.  Now it doesn't mention flips...although it still says we tumble down stairs.
