Title: EPIC!
Post by: RevZombie on September 22, 2010, 09:34:05 PM
Got my first monkey vault!!!!!!!!!!

Totally bailed (horribly) on my first two attempts, then picked myself up, dusted myself off and got it right ten times.  This calls for a celebration.

Yahoo!  That's excellent!  I started doing successful monkey vaults and kongs so recently that it's still a big thrill when I land one correctly.  Congratulations! ;D

My thighs have never been so sapped of strength. I am wondering if i am doing it correctly?

I remember my first kong ;D

Congratulations.

Muscles being tired can't really be attributed to improper form, without more detail. Maybe just repetition and other parts of your workout? Not saying you're necessarily doing it correctly, we just can't know for sure without a pic or vid.

Reread the Parkour Handbook, I didn't warm up enough, or bother to warm down... hence the unbelievable soreness. fortunately, I'm confident its not injury due to the fact that its located strictly in my quad region and seems very evenly distributed (fairly distributed pain),  My shoulder on the other hand- that is wrecked.

Ironically, it was not my cruddier shoulder, but my good one.  I'm sure its not a torn rotator cuff, its just bruised. (my first two monkey vaults were bails worthy of being named.)

I'll focus more on conditioning for the next few weeks, I guess.

Well, it's most likely healed by now, but let me give you the 24 hour rule to working out hard.  Whenever you have a significantly hard workout, you must go jogging for 20 minutes within the next 24 hours.  Why? What happens is jogging is a slow casual way to pump out metabolites which prevent healing and pumps in new nutrients to promote healing.  If you don't do some kind of slow easy pumping exercise for a minimum of 20 minutes, you will feel very sore within 2 days. Hope this helps in the future.
Remember 20 within in 24 or pain and weakness within 2.  That's the rule!

Great work mate.. Have done a couple of monkey vaults, but no kongs yet.
By the way, where did you find the parkour handbook?
