Title: Help us Keep HIpk Running
Post by: Ozzi on November 08, 2009, 02:32:10 PM
For the past couple of years HIpk has been, for the most part, run by the efforts of one main individual who's main purpose and desire is to offer a home for those who are passionate about the practice of parkour and freerunning. As well as any relevant information for anyone interested on knowing more about the discipline and its safe practices. Whether it is to get started, or simple to satisfy one's curiosity.

From the start, it has been Hawaii Parkour's mission to link all practitioners, bringing them together through events, jams and anything to keep the community active, in constant training while sharing an feeling of ohana.

This takes time and dedication from those who keep the site running. Unfortunately we dont get any financial help that would allow us to offer more than we currently do. We have not been able to offer HIpk shirts for a while due to budget, and I know some of you are waiting for those new designs to come out.

All of this is why we have set up a DONATE button, right above the log in section on the left. Weather it is $1 - $10 - $100 any help will be greatly appreciated and put towards newer and better stuff for the website. Also, you all could finally be able to send Ozzi to take some spelling and grammar classes Wink

Anyway, we at HIpk want to thank you for your support and hope to continue to offer the best we can for al your parkour and freerunning needs.

THANKS ALL FOR KEEPING US RUNNING!!

I think it is important that people know that HIpk doesn't really make any money for what it offers (aside from the occasional t-shirt sale). I highly encourage everyone (or your parents) to donate to the cause, as we are all part of this community and we can all reap the benefits of a healthy and prosperous HIpk. Think about it. If HIpk had a bigger budget who knows what great things could happen... equipment... prizes... contests... free stuff... more jams...

Ozzi didn't even make much off the t-shirts. I think the McD ad and maybe CF class were the only big money makers.

I was going to preach on a bunch of stuff, but I think I'll save my 2 cents, and donate it to the cause. [Cue applause]

Haha! Sweetie, I think you worry way to much. HIPK is a completely legitimate organization. You have very little to worry about.

And trust me, with "helicopter parents," (this is coming from personal experience here), the best thing you can do is tell the truth. Especially about something you really want to do. Nothing worse than losing the chance to get involved because you lied about it. It will only make your folks more suspicious and protective. And..they won't let you train with us, because they'll think we've got something to hide..which is nothing. ;)

Yeah lying to parents will bite you in the rear later.

Hey Ozzi, can I have the graphic so I can just go to like cafe press or what ever and order a shirt like that?

Yo dudes and dudettes,

This thought crossed my mind, and yeah, I know it mind sound crazy corny, but there's this website where you can customize bumper stickers and the price isn't all that bad. I've done a few for my own car a while back. Maybe we could customize, order, and sell HIPK bumper stickers to raise money and awareness. Yeah, I know it's silly..why drive when you can run, right? Which brings me to one idea: "My other vehicle is my legs" or something like that..I dunno. I know it's a little cheesy.  :P Some cool ideas might be helpful. Here's a link to the site.

http://www.zazzle.com/custom/bumperstickers

Thumbs up, thumbs down, maybes, ideas, and the like are most certainly welcome. I'm more than willing to put the ideas together and order the stickers. The cool thing is anyone can do this. Just a thought.

ooo come to think of it i agree because people might absent mindedly put them on walls of private or public property...or maybe even glass windows or watever

Hawaii academy and crossfit are great, but are there plans for a (hawaii) parkour gym? Seems like the best way to keep it going and create income streams for those who put so much effort and energy into setting this up. Give hipk a permanent home.

There are plenty of simple business models to follow: Hawaii academy for one, revolution parlor in Portland OR, there is one in Calgary, one in Texas

There are not that many parkour gyms in the country but this could definitely work. I am sure labor could be donated for design and construction. Vaults are cheap and easy to build. A mat floor (not a sprung dance floor) would be the most expensive part. Commercial/industrial rent is cheap.

Is anyone working on this? Are there potential investers?

Apex in CO, Primal Fitness in DC & Miami...
But Ozzi's taking it to the streets for the next training camp.
Lot less overhead... training on real obstacles, in real conditions...

Agreed, pk belongs on the St. Wouldn't change outdoor bootcamps or jams, trail and architectural "playground" use or anything. There is no reason any of that would have to change if hipk had a headquarters.

Gyms make it accessible for beginners and youngsters and make parents feel secure.
