Title: Wisconsin Statewide Training Tour: July 2009!
Post by: Alissa J. Bratz on August 14, 2008, 09:39:14 PM
Hello, fellow Cheeseheads! :)

Madparkour (in Madison) and PK Squirrel (in Waukesha) are planning a statewide training tour for next summer. We are tentatively looking at July 2009 for our road trip, but of course we are still in the planning stages.

What we'd like to do is visit as many cities and towns in the state as possible to meet up with as many traceurs/traceuses as we can for training. If you are a beginner or are experienced, it doesn't matter to us; we are just looking forward to meeting our fellow Wisconsin traceurs and seeing what's out there to train on, and to teach and learn from one another. This is not so much a formal "jam" situation as it's just a way for us to meet as many practitioners around the Badger State as we can, so we can all learn from one another and have fun.

If you've been wanting to train with a group but have a hard time meeting other traceurs in your area, or have a hard time finding spots, this is a great opportunity for you. We would LOVE to visit and see what is going on with parkour all over the state!

Once again, this is VERY informal. If you are an experienced training crew of 10 traceurs, or a single person in a small outpost town "Up Nort'" who's just started training, we are interested in meeting with you and training together. Please don't be shy! We want to meet as many people as we can. Please don't think, "Oh, there are no cool spots near me!" because there are cool spots EVERYWHERE!

If you are interested in having us visit your area next summer, please let us know, as it will help us plan our itinerary.

Also, if anyone would be willing to offer lodging (even if it's just floor space!) for the 1-2 nights that we will be in each place, that would be extremely appreciated.

Please let us know in this thread if you'd like us to include you on our "tour" itinerary, and also if you'd be willing/able to help us out with lodging/crash space.

Happy training! Hope to see/meet many of you next summer!

This is what Joey, of PK Squirrel, posted over at Madpk about this:

Quote
I just wanted to stress the fact that we (PK Squirrel and MadPK) are coming to where you train. We want to train with you with what ever you have... for example myself and the rest of PK Squirrel live in a rural town with a few picnic benches and nothing else, so if all you have is a bench or a tree and would like us to stop by let us know and we would love to train where you train and how you train. We are one state lets make it one Parkour Community as well :D

I couldn't agree more; this is exactly what it's all about: getting together and training across the state and building our community!

We could use this in Michigan.... Too bad I can't get involved, but this is a great idea for other groups to try. :)

Maybe you should just get all the boats, tie them up to the docks, and have them all go in the same direction and pull Hawaii back to, I don't know, civilization?

Awesome, Damu! Green Bay is on the list! :)

More details to come as next summer gets closer.

So far we have:

Madison
Milwaukee
Green Bay

We have to have more than three cities on there! Anyone else?

I no longer live there but twin lakes Wi. could realy use this I moved out like a year ago and if you look around the town there are some realy nice spots, not sure if anyone there dose parkour, but hey thats part of what this is about is exposing this to wisconsin and makeing sure you can get as many people as posable so yea, I'll let you know as the dates get closer if I can come back in state for this, as soon as I know you'll know but I have to do basic down in Ga first.

Muse, its small, but its my home town.
Mayville has some nice urban spots for only supporting 5,000 ppl

you've seen our vids and it would be cool to have MadPK here for a training weekend in the summer!
Title: Re: Wisconsin Statewide Training Tour: July 2009!
Post by: Alissa J. Bratz on December 18, 2008, 10:10:49 PM
Sounds great, Michael! For me the size of the town isn't important, it's just the chance to train with traceurs from all over the state, wherever they may be!

We'll add Twin Lakes, Muskego, & Mayville to the list tentatively. They all sound great! The final places will be determined by our availability of funds/time, and efficiency of route (go figure) :) throughout the state.

Anyone else want to throw a suggestion out there for places we could visit? We'd like to see as many places as we can!

I was thinkin, at the end of the summer-
after you visit places all over the state, we could all gather back in madison for a final "jam"....?

that would be pretty cool

Hey all, its been sooooo long since I've posted anything. Been out of the game for a long while, since the Midwest Jam to be exact but that is a whole other story. Appleton isn't too bad by my standards and I'm sure we could hook up some lodgings along the way. I've been to Waukesha but have not run there at all, really wanted to though. Other than that its just nice to jump back on the forums again as I need to work up the strength just to run up a simple basement flight of steps...sick is lame. July looks to be the month for Wisconsin though. Looking forward to it either way. Peace all.

End of May, any closer to some solid plans? I'd love to get back together with you all as you make the rounds...
Tentatively I have access to an apartment in Green Bay with plenty of sleeping possibilities but it may disappear by July. Hoping not and also hoping to be back there and semi ready to train a bit. Still reeling from the illness and weight loss. I can hold a camera though!! Its all good. Can't wait for the ruckus!
Title: Re: Wisconsin Statewide Training Tour: July 2009!
Post by: Alissa J. Bratz on July 05, 2009, 10:34:36 AM
TENTATIVELY:

July 24/25 and/or August 1/2.

Communities:

Green Bay
Mayville
Twin Lakes
Appleton
Kenosha
Manitowoc
Muskego

Cameron, WI; at this point is too far north to be feasible this summer. It's a shame; but the good news is we're hoping to make this an annual thing, so maybe next year we'll head northwest!

More details to come soon. What we will need from the members of the above communities is the following:

1. Please choose a spot for us to meet. It can be anywhere: park, playground, wooded area, urban space.
2. Please spread the word among interested parties in your area.
3. A small donation, of whatever you feel is appropriate, to help us cover food, lodging, and gas costs, would be appreciated (but it is not required)

Be thinking about these things so you can have some ideas ready to share once we officially announce places/dates/times.

Thanks for your patience as we plan this! Having our site go down in flames really mucked up our summer planning.

aww no muskego =/   lol  even waukesha would be nice.  i dont know any of these places XD well, except for obviously GB, appleton, and kenosha

We can do Muskego also. I don't know why I left it off the list! Having said that, Muskego is 30 minutes from Waukesha, so you should be able to meet up with the Waukesha guys from time to time. TBH I thought you already jammed with them on a regular basis, but maybe that was a false conclusion on my part. :)

well, with Travis once in Waukesha, and once at the Y in the winter, but other than that, i just go with some of the guys i trained with there. but idk.   Muskego doesnt have much, but Waukesha wasn't on the list..and its better than here in my opinion. lol

Telulah Park in Appleton along with Lawrence University as well. Complete downtown walk is nice too. cook out at the Park if possible along with frisbee golf!!

Green Bay has Pamperin Park which I like, some of downtown is decent but sketchy as they are banks and such. UWGB and ST. Norberts in Depere both fun, Depere is my favorite to be honest.

Anything else???

PS.
I have a Family Reunion AND a wedding to Officiate on the 1st of August. Both near Manitowoc / Two Rivers
which i guess could be added to the list of places to stop on the way to GB / Appleton but we'll see I guess :)

hey, im glad you can come make it to kenosha! thats awesome! im thinking of making posters for the event(parkour isnt really exclusive yet in Kenosha) so the sooner you can get the day out there, the better. so yeah im think more by the lakefront is the better part of the city for parkour, other than that its pretty rural, ill be checking out down there more for better spots and more info will come out to you soon  ;D

Muskego here.  its tough deciding where to actually go... there are a few spots around the area, but none can cover all aspects. lol   and places with tables are sometimes messy, while the other spots have daycare things going on by them.. =/

Looking good :D My only thoughts are how we're going to get from here to Manitowoc by 9 in the morning lol. The thought of getting up that early on a Sunday is appalling...oh well 8) I can think of many worse ways to spend the day.

As far as training spots in Muskego, you'll hear us PK Squirrel guys say that there is no limit to the amount of stuff you can do on a picnic bench - and whether you believe it or not, it's true. (And just between you, me, and everyone else here on the forums, they're some of my favorite training obstacles - especially because of all the good times I've had with them [MATC anyone?] :D)

Alright then!

Green Bay = Pamperin Park off of Packerland Ave. and 41.  West Side.  I'll be there so give me a call if there are any problems.

Lunch at Chipotle's in Appleton anyone??

Appleton = Lawrence University and Downtown which is all on College Ave. I'll drive with you guys from GB after we wrap up there.

Not to call anyone out at all but Green_Ghost who suggested my hometown of Manitowoc hasn't been active since the day he registered in February so if Manitowoc @ 9am is early it may be that Manitowoc isn't even gonna show up. Just a thought on my part but feel free to explore. I can always give you directions over the phone since I won't be there :)

Any questions I'm available all week!

Can't wait its been so long since we've seen each other :)

its not that i think they are boring. because i know exactly what you say.  its the condition of the tables.. it is in a park w/ day care as well, so theres stuff on them sometimes lol like food and other nasty things.

i was thinking Fonferek's Glen for Green bay! that place is MUCH more amazing than pamperin park

it doesnt have anything in the ways of benches, playgrounds or rails, but its wilderness with lots and lots of rocks lmao.

climbable, jumpable, runnable. i think it would be worth it, its in bellevue, so not far out at all.

Hey I'm glad you guys are coming to Manitowoc. The best place that I have scooped out is the high school here Lincoln High near downtown and a block away from a park (benchs, playground the traceurs standerd). The school its self has rails, walls, stairs, and a sweet shed that I love to see what experienced traceurs can do with it. Heres the link for how to get here and thanks for coming.

its not actually a park, its called fonferek's glen, and it is a residential area. its located on this person's property, but they allow people there. its pretty much overgrown farm land

James that is a very good point about Manitowoc; something to consider for the other cities as well! I'm glad we'll have some people at Manitowoc though. Looking forward to training there!

Thanks also for the spots, those of you who have provided them.

Let's do the Glen in GB. I personally haven't had enough opportunities to try nature parkour. Plus it would cut down a tad on our driving which means more time to train!

We haven't heard back from Mayville yet... I know those guys are pretty experienced and they have always been eager to train with us on their home turf, but if we don't hear back, we may be able to flex our itinerary a bit.

Finalized details will be posted Saturday afternoon.

ALAN call me (check your Facebook PM's for my phone # if you don't already have it--or ask Shane) ASAP to make transportation plans. I am leaving Madison at 6:15. It doesn't matter what time you call, I will be up (and if I'm not I still need to talk to you to make sure we can coordinate).

See you all tomorrow!

WAHOO! Leg #1 was awesome! :D

We met up first with Blair in Manitowoc. Joey, Travis, Blair & I trained at a great spot. It was a fantastic, collaborative training session and so lovely right next to the lake. We worked on kongs (progressions for me; these are getting smoother!), tic-tacs/precisions, wallruns, cats, balance. Joey and Travis are such good, patient teachers/coaches; it seemed like a really fruitful session. I know I had a blast! We hope to get up to Manitowoc to train again! What a great city with really nice spots!

The next segment was Green Bay. No one was there to meet us, aside from James and Luke who we train with regularly. It was a bummer we didn't get a chance to meet up with any new locals, but we did get to see some really cool new spots. First was some nature parkour in a conservancy/quarry called Fonfarek's Park. LOTS of ankle conditioning and balance work on the scree. Plus with on and off rain, stuff got slippery quickly. But it was a great challenge and we don't get a lot of opportunities to do much nature parkour, so that was good.

After the nature parkour James took us to a park in the city of Green Bay called Pamperin Park. This place was awesome. It reminded us a lot of Oz park in Chicago. There were a lot of kids there with their families, playing on the equipment. The parents and families overall seemed pretty cool about us training there. It was nice; we were worried they would be concerned about their kids' safety (even though we always train safely), with all these "big kids" (us) running around, but we got a lot of curious spectators and cool parents watching. And some of the older kids were pretty intrigued. :) A few even asked us if we were Spiderman/Spiderwoman; that was awesome. :D The park is in a huge space; in addition to really cool playground equipment, it has a lot of grassy space with picnic tables, grills, and full bathroom facilities. It is also next to a creek which we didn't get a chance to explore but seems promising. This place seems ideal for an all-day jam. We're thinking next summer would be a good time to do a full-on statewide jam.

From Green Bay we proceeded to Appleton and jammed out at the Lawrence University campus. By now the rain was coming more and more frequently, so we had to curtail some things due to slippery surfaces. Campus security came by and didn't hassle us; they seemed pretty cool with us training, but they did ask us not to go on any rooftops (no problem, guys). :) There are lots of cool spots on campus; once the rain let up we explored the campus more and then went down to the river for some "leapfrogging" on the river rocks. Joey and Travis made a valiant attempt and crossed the whole river. It was a great opportunity to work on "touch" as Stephane Vigroux calls it. By this point I was too tired to go on (4 hours of sleep, and I'm almost twice their age), so I took the bridge across and rested on a park bench while they navigated the rocks. James was kind enough to accompany me. :) Appleton definitely merits another look. I'd like to visit it again when I'm not so tired and the weather is cooperating.

All in all, it was a great day. Travis took a ton of footage and we hope to have a video out after next week (once we finish Leg #2 of the tour). It's a shame we didn't hear back from Mayville, and we didn't get a chance to meet the Green Bay folks, but maybe next time.

Next week we head South! Muskego, Racine, etc. Thanks to all the locals along our tour route for providing us with information on your favorite spots. We look forward to meeting you, and hope this tour is something that continues in future summers! :D

oh p.s. i'll bring a video camera and a tripod for this fun little event...put a video together and maybe you can put it up on the MadPk site somewhere.

Are you coming this Sunday?  I will be in Vegas, which means I will have my camera.  I would like this coming Sunday video taped.  I have a camera for Joe to use, but it is no where near the quality of yours.  I would appreciate it that if you are coming if you could film the whole event.  Please let me know so I can get it coordinated.

Just a reminder...

We need spots for these locations:

Sunday, August 2

9:00 to 10:30am - Twin Lakes, WI

11:30 to 1:00 - Kenosha, WI At point B of this location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Pennoyer+park&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=30.957823,56.337891&ie=UTF8&ll=42.61318,-87.819901&spn=0.028046,0.055017&z=14&iwloc=B)

2:00 to 3:30 - Muskego, WI At this location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=8228+pioneer+dr+muskego+wisconsin&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=33.764224,79.013672&num=10&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=A&iwstate1=saveplace)

If you live in one of the communities listed...

Please provide the following:

1. A spot where we can all meet up. Please post locations to this thread so others can join us. A Google Maps link to the spot would be awesome. We only need one spot per city.

2. Spread the word among friends and interested parties in your community. Bring as many people as you like!

3. Be at the appointed place at the appointed time.

4. If you feel comfortable doing so, send me your cell phone # in a PM, so we have a contact in case we get lost or are delayed. Please provide your name, your city, and your phone #.

Unless you provide spots for us to meet, we will NOT be at your location. So far we only have a location for Kenosha, so it's looking at this point like Kenosha is the only stop on our tour this weekend unless people provide map links for us before Sunday.

ALAN: are you coming with us for this leg of the tour? Call me and let me know so we can arrange transportation.

I guess we will settle for here. there is a small playground, benches, and plenty of tables.  along with places to vault at the ends of the nature walk.

Okay sweet; here is the deal:

1. We are not visiting the Twin Lakes location. I think the person who originally suggested it no longer lives there and we did not get a location. So...

2. We are starting in Kenosha at 11:30; location is linked a few posts up. Jeremy, we will keep to the original time, but you are more than welcome to come along with us to jam in Muskego later on in the afternoon, if you like and if you're able to.

3. Alan, meet me at the MBG parking lot at 8:45. We'll head to Joey's house and then carpool with the Squirrels from there. :) Call me if you have questions; you should have my cell in your FB messages.

See you all tomorrow!

Here's another thought... since i cant really decide between places, could we possibly go to multiple locations? depending on what is going on afterward.. as in after Muskego, or switch places during the Muskego time even.

Another thought. Since Muskego is the last stop, and i know its kinda late to say this, but depending on what everyone is doing afterward, I HAVE A POOL. lol

just a few thoughts for the time... feel free to talk about it.

No no, there should be a link to a Google calendar on that page, in addition to the bullet-point list of upcoming events. There is a training session this Thursday (8/6) actually. Also in the "Training Calendar" section of the Madparkour forum here at APK people post up when they will be out training.

And supposedly, this is the link where you can watch it from megavideo, although as of right now it says it is converting and I am not sure it is going to work.  Frankly, this video has taken so much time that I am just giving up on it.  If anyone is able to post the video in any other player, DO IT!  and then link it...
