Soft.
They're a pain in the ass to put in because I have very long eyelashes, but once they're in they're great...

I have two pairs of them. One in my car and one with my athletic gear.  I found them at a local sports store called Sports Authority and one at the Wal Mart in the prescription eye glass section.  They are much better than the adjustable kind because they secure tightly around the back of your head so no falling off around your neck!  I love them.  Later this year I'm going to be getting lasik which will solve all those problems of having to deal with contacts or securing glasses.  If that isn't an option, go for these straps.
