Because YOU ARE TOO WEAK.

But seriously. That's probably the problem. You're not used to that amount of weight (essentially, your body weight) being applied to the muscles in use.

Keep practicing. Maybe try lowering yourself in stages and holding it.

Find a way to build up the angle in your push-up. A regular push-up is 0 degrees and a HSPU is 90 degrees. Gradually raise your feet over your head, increasing the angle (do them with your feet on a stool, then a chair, then the back of a chair, etc.) Eventually you will get to full 90.

I think my max right now is 5 HSPU's in a row. so if you can do 5 reps or however many just do like 4-5 sets.

it'll be hard on your muscles, but you'll get used to it.
2 weeks ago I could only do 3 HSPU's in a row.
But this is just at 1-2 sets a day. 2-3 days a week.

So go on and try it.
