It depends on what kind of training, what your goals are, and what your body needs. Gatorade has a lot of sugar, which isn't good; but it also replaces electrolytes which is good if you've been sweating a lot and really pushing yourself. It's my belief that, for most workouts, plain water is just fine, and the sugar in Gatorade is undesirable.

There are several threads in this forum about various energy drinks and water. Check them out for more detailed discussion/points of view.

I always drink water before/during/after workouts. I don't do sports drinks.

Who would ever drink water? They use that stuff in toilets.

WhiteNinja?

How did you get so many smites? lol

Water is the best.
But of course like Muse said you may need some Gatorade to bring back some of those electrolytes.

If your electrolytes are really low, your best bet is to have a banana and a handful or two of salted nuts, and then some water. :) All electrolytes are, basically, is sodium and potassium. You can get those in a salty snack + a banana; plus all the added other good stuff in there, and none of the sugar. Then just rehydrate with plain water. :)

You pretty much have to be sweating a ton and really depriving yourself for an extended time to lose electrolytes, though, as I understand things.

Plus I have a personal vendetta against sports drinks and energy drinks. I have a big personal beef with them... so I'm not exactly the best person to ask for an unbiased opinion. ;)

I've started using elete water as an electrolyte supplement added to water.  Information can be found at w/f/s http://www.eletewater.com/  I've used the elete supplement during all my lacrosse games for the last year and it has worked pretty well.  I also take the tablytes on days before games or before and after intense metcon workouts.  The water supplement does make your water taste salty but if you can get past that it isn't too bad.

When gatorade was first formulated, it was intended as a sports drink, and from what I've read, tasted like crap. The formula has been changed to make it tastier, and the ingredients look something like this:
Water, Sucrose Syrup, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Citric Acid, Natural Orange Flavor With Other Natural Flavors, Salt, Sodium Citrate, Monopotassium Phosphate, Yellow 6, Ester Gum, Brominated Vegetable Oil. No Fruit Juice.

Oh, and apparently gatorade erodes teeth: http://www.webmd.com/news/20060309/gatorade-tough-on-teeth

I'll stick to water.
