I have the same type of question as Zelroth... I just picked up a bottle of Omega-3 Fish Oil supplement capsules. On the bottle it says that there is 2400mg of fish oil concentrate in each serving (2 capsules), which has 672mg EPA and 552mg DHA. Total, that adds up to 1224mg of Omega-3. I've read that the optimal amount of Omega-3 daily is 3-5g. Should I be taking 6 capsules (3 servings) of the supplement a day to get about 3.7g of Omega-3? (about 2g EPA and 1.7g DHA)

if it's a joint lubricant, too, then it should help with the cracking/popping of my knees, correct? I have been taking fish oil pills for a couple weeks now, and no big difference. Then again, it might be because I'm only taking 1 pill in the morning...

Take as many capsules as you need so that your total of EPA and DHA is atleast 2.5 grams. (Five, but six is better.)

Omega-3's are great. However my personal opinion on any kind of "miracle cure" is twofold. 1. It is better to try to get the substance as it naturally occurs in food than to take it in a supplement, and 2. No food is so excellent for you that you can't get too much of a good thing.

1. It is more fun to eat than to take a pill, IMO. Omega-3's are in delicious stuff like fatty fish (salmon and tuna). Eating 2-3 servings of fatty fish per week will help you get your necessary Omega-3's. A sprinkling of ground flaxseed daily, in your morning smoothie will also ensure you're getting enough.

2. There are some risks with Omega-3s. Most notably: thinning of the blood (a good thing for most of us, but dangerous for those who bruise easily or already have thin blood), and stroke, among other things.

The important thing is to get them from the appropriate source for you, and to take them in an appropriate dose for your body. As to whether you get them in pill/oil form, or from food, well, that's a matter of personal preference.

A good starting point: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/omega-3-000316.htm

I have a question. I just bought fish body oil pills from GNC and they're soft pills. Do I swallow them? I've never taken a supplement like this before.

So that means I swallow them with water right? Like as if I were taking medicine?

Thank you. I was confused because they seemed to be made of the same plasticy sheel that my blood capsules are made of.

Heh, no problem. Besides, I don't think it'd have the greatest taste if you popped em open and THEN swallow em  ;D

The other option you have is straight fish oil.
