Shoe Recommendations Under $35
« on: January 02, 2015, 09:46:55 AM »
I was considering feiyues, Kalenji Ekiden 50s, and feiyue Los I foundbon Amazon for a discounted price of $30. Out of those, what would you guys recomend for a total beginner? Also, i don't want to train barefoot as I think I'm going to kill my feet on wall runs and broken glass… Thanks for the help!

The only one of those I've owned are the regular feiyues. Love them, no complaints. This topic comes up a ton so I'll leave it at that.

I would really suggest feiyues.    They were my first shoes for parkour outside and now I own 5 pairs because of all the deals on the APK store.   I do have OLLO's and I love them as well but if $$$ is an issue feiyues are always a safe bet.

I think they're technically a martial arts shoe, whatever that means. You can also classify them as minimalist.

I'm asking, because in my country we call that type of shoes, in quite literal translation, "rubber shoes". You can't find feiyues around here, but there are other brands that make them and you can find ones for $7-10. You can guess what I'm wearing most of the time :D

And they last me 1-3 months. 10$ for that is cheap even for the poor country I live in.
Here are few photos of what they actually look like, sadly no bottom shots found:

Yeah that's not bad at all. My feiyues can last me like 2 months for about $20. More in the summer because I train barefoot a good amount.

Yes, they are of the same type. That's why I was asking how is it called. Extremely light and flexible and with thin sole. When I dump my winter shoes and put on a pair of these it feels like my feet are out of control. Just flying on themselves :D

Ok. After trying someone else's, I thought these were really good for the price. The grip seemed good and u just suck at wall runs on painted brick but on concrete they were great. Reviews said they were light too. What do you guys think?

I would say look up any popular brand of barefoot shoes on ebay and amazon and you can find some really nice deals.
and theclymb.com will have deals on barefoot shoes.

I have the feiyue original and the feiyue los. Both are amaazzziiinnnnggg shoes, especially for the price. The original feiyues I got were too big, so I bought the feiyue los while they were on sale. I'm wearing my los right now, but once I wear them to nothingness I'll be switching back to my regular feiyues. Which, unfortunately, might be kind of soon  :'( Feiyue los lasted me abouuuuttt... uhhh... since September, so about 7 months. Maybe more, maybe less. Worth it for $~30 when they were on sale.

Definitely Feiyues! I'm wearing them as I type this. Haha They're incredibly comfortable and I love how well I can feel the ground. They weigh almost nothing and are amazingly flexible. To warn you, they do have very little padding! So be vareful with big drops at first. They'll definitely help with technique, you can feel when you're landing wrong. Ive used a LOT of different shoes. I started learning with Ariakes and I've tried many, but found myself wanting a "back to basics" kind of shoe. Call me stubborn, but it was mostly the fact that I wanted my abilities to come from skill, not from my shoes being so padded that I couldn't feel that I had actually done it wrong. I'm the type who doesn't want to rely on anything but my own body and skill. so they are a fantastic minimalist shoe, as long as you buy them EXPECTING a minimalist shoe. Worth giving them a try for $20 in my humble opinion, anyway.
