Name that technique
« on: October 23, 2012, 09:43:45 AM »
Team and I were jamming about downtown Milwaukee, when we started racing for our average mid-day munchies. We remembered the McDonald's and made a mad scramble race to reach it, I encountered a ledge about stomach height and proceeded into my normal routine of going from a Kong Vault into a QP run. When I was upon the ledge I ended up rolling and standing up to run instead of the prior. Later my friends asked me when I learned the movement and I told them it was an accident, later on we ended up successfully reproducing the movement. Wanting to name it, I mentioned it probably has a name and we would need to consult the intrawebs, so can you name that technique?
So long as I have parkour I'm okay.

Sort of, but not so much diving as I performed a Kong Vault, my feet should not have touched the surface if I was dive-rolling.

Kong to roll ?

:-\ Well with no luck finding any videos of this we've concluded that it must be dubbed as a "Kong Roll" for the time being. Yes, you dive into a kong vault, that is quite accurate in saying this was a dive roll; the exception being my feet were touching the surface prior to the roll.

See what I can do, I'm in a very rough patch of life right now, so getting my hands on a camera would be the easy thing, but there is so much demanding my attention at the moment.

Okay try this, find a ledge that has a walking span of at least five paces (ten steps). Perform a kong vault up onto it but use both of your feet to block, the momentum will/should be enough to drag you forwards causing you to roll. It was by complete accident so it would be circumstantial that my feet caught the ground and sent me into a somersault. When I get a camera I'll upload a video, but if you do one sooner show it to me so we may determine the practicality of such a maneuver.

sounds like kong to dive roll to me
2 moves fluently tied together to look like all one movement is called 'flow' lol
I like Tricking and Free Running, i don't think i actually do parkour, because i do it for fun and self expression, which would change the term to free running.

Kong roll, its almost like a kash vault, only the second half isn't a dash vault, it's a roll. So i think thats a good name. Kong Roll. legit.
Understand that this art has been created by few soldiers in Vietnam to escape or reach; this is the spirit I'd like parkour to keep. Its up to you to determine what is useful in an emergency situation, and what is'nt.

I completely agree.  Not everything needs a name.  We shouldn't confine our movements and training to a "list" of named moves.
