Fish Oil Problems
« on: January 11, 2012, 11:39:39 AM »
Awhile ago, I ordered some liquid fish oil. And I believe it's the brand that Steven gets a kickback with LOW052.
I started slow taking it, and took more and more, with about 2 spoon fulls, two or three times a day.  I took this with a meal, and usually chased with a glass or two of whole milk.

After a few days of this I start to develop cold-like symptoms.  Sore throat, headaches, runny noise/stuffiness, etc.
I would stop taking it, then feel better after a week or so, than If i began taking it again the symptoms would return.

Should I change up the brand, try something different, stop taking it?
I have tried some Wal Mart fish oil Pills and would take about 3 pills per meal with no symptoms, but I believe the liquid is more effective.

Thanks.

It may just be something in the brand of fish oil you were using. Perhaps try a different brand of liquid oil

Do you drink it with a spoon, or straight out of the bottle?

I only ask because I've heard of some interesting issues that arose from guys who were "bottle chugging" it, and it grew cultures in it.

Remember that fish oil is an anti-inflammatory. If your body is already fairly balanced, (e.g. you sleep enough, train moderately, have good nutrition) anti-inflammatory agents can actually suppress the immune system which may allow bacteria/viruses to start getting a foothold in your body

That's generally what I'm thinking when someone takes a bunch of fish oil.

If you took the pills at the same dose as the liquid you may see similar effects. Otherwise, I'd probably just cut down the dose.

Yea, interesting. That's certainly more than I take, and I use the same brand you're referring to. I take it fairly randomly but usually around meal-times (pre-meal avoids any possible fishy taste returning) and no more than a tbsp. You're refrigerating it too?
