Im sorry but that doesnt make much sense, to me that is like saying you would sometimes watch a movie without paying attention.

Much different actually... a song might have a certain beat or instrumental that sounds good but the lyrics are shit.

Exactly.

Like for instance this song, I love the beat. But not so much the lyrics.

That's actually easy. It's called zoning out :P

How I envy you guys.  I listen to music because I tend to think too much, I can't stop, so it helps me to focus on something.  So I kinda analyze everything about the song, it can get kinda ridiculous honestly.

I am the same way, musics like an art to me,that has to be broken down piece by piece to enjoy it fully.

I do that too, but I've got to the point where I let my mind go and I just listen to the music. Even if the lyrics are shitty, I'll probably enjoy the beat and vice versa. I know music is art and I appreciate it, because I'm an artist myself (drawing, graffiti, design, and music). You just need to feel the music like a violinist feels when playing. Lyrics matter sometimes and sometimes they don't.

I'm with the other kiddos' on this one. Lyrics have to be good with the instrumentals, and what-not to even be considered to be listened to for me.

Like Christian bands. Majority of them have great instrumentals, but terrible lyrics.

That depends on your beliefs. That statement might cause arguments :P

I've never been able to do that.  I always listen to the lyrics as well as what's happening with the instruments, that's the main reason I listen to the stuff I do.  I can actually connect to the lyrics and the music isn't repetitive.

+1 to this.  Just my opinion.

Eh, to each their own. I'm just using Christian bands as an example, since those are the majority of the bands I have a distaste for, lyrically wise.

If you would like another example, the Friday song.

See, for me, right now, yesterday was tuesday... Does that mean that friday is tomorrow? This logic is hurting my brain.  [WTF]
ME:  "I'm a graphic artist."
HIM: "whats that? What do you do?"
ME:   "well actually it can be pretty hard, i have to  code and..." (getting all technical with my words on what i do."
HIM:  "blank Stare"
ME: "I make pretty pictures..."
